Beautiful hotel in a former monastery on a hill overlooking the town. Very friendly reception and on my way to my room passed some spectacular decorated halls. As if you were in a palace. The room was a bit smallish but otherwise very comfortable and quiet. The breakfast buffet was very good with lots of tasty choices and excellent service. Behind the building is a nice quiet garden

A luxury hotel that has been created from a monestary while keeping the character and beauty of the original building. The staff are very professional and the breakfasts and bar-food are excellent (we took our evening meals in the town during our short stay, so we never tried the main restaurant). It is located about a third the way up a hill, on the edge of the centre of the town. We enjoyed walking down into the historic centre and it took us about 20 minutes. I loved the architecture, the airy grandeur and the many original tiles. I also liked the fact that we were out of the main bustle of the town, yet in walking distance of the main sights.

The hotel was like a museum, everything was beautiful. The restaurant food quality was exceptional-the octopus incredible. We loved our stay and wished we could’ve stayed longer. All the staff were super friendly. The breakfast had a good range and was amazing

Beautiful and atmospheric old monastery. Hotel was absolutely lovely and the staff were exceptionally friendly, helpful and courteous. Standard room is on the small side, but the atmosphere and comfort more than make up for the size. Bar and restaurant staff are outstanding and the breakfasts are fantastic with great variety. Restaurant had outstanding service and great food. Overall, the service is what you'd expect from a hotel that cost 5 times the price. If you stay, be sure to stroll through the gardens. Can't say enough good things about the staff! Outstanding!

One of a kind for the atmosphere. This Pousada is "exquisite"! We spent 4 nights. We loved everything; the bedroom (superior) are very comfortable; the common area so charming, very well maintain and quiet. The staff is extremely friendly; the food at the restaurant is excellent (just the lighting, being a little too bright can be annoying) but having dinner at the bar is very charming . Couldn't enjoy the pool as the weather was not very inviting (rain & storm). A marvellous place to spend a few days to visit the area.

The hotel is in an ancient monastery and it makes all the charm and attraction of the place if you like "old stones and historical places". The renovation has kept the original building and improved it to todays comfort. The rooms ( cells) are small but well fitted with a comfortable bed and functional bathroom. You can feel History when you enter the building and anywhere you walk . They have a big outdoor park for pleasant walks . The church adjacent to the Hotel is worth visiting. I was staying on a weekend and I attended the Sunday mass. My only negative note is on the breakfast which is very disappointing in terms of product variety and quality. The set up of the breakfast buffet is very poor and not attractive at all. The breakfast team is not as welcoming and friendly as the front desk or lady at the bar, which is not meeting one's expectations in such a place.

This property is truly amazing and one-of-a-kind, with history and grandeur throughout. Also great value. We had a wonderful 2 night stay, the breakfast was excellent, and staff were very friendly and helpful. Set on a hill outside town, it's an easy walk into Guimaraes' historical centre but a little more challenging on the way back. Overall, a highlight of our trip to Portugal and we would definitely stay again.

Stayed for two nights on a group tour of Portugal. Very well maintained former Monastery with large bedrooms and all mod cons. Extensive gardens with attractive swimming pool. Also contains a nice restaurant with excellent food and a welcoming bar area. Hard to find fault.
