Pousada Serra da Estrela (Covilhã, Centro) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"A hotel in the mountains that combines history with more modern creature comforts thanks to the renovation of this impressive property. Well - appointed guestrooms, albeit with a restrained decor, regional cooking, beauty treatments and pure mountain air all add to its attraction, in addition to a suite that occupies an entire floor." - Tablet Hotels

Fantastic get away for a night with a spectacular dinner. We took the turret room with the amazing balcony to enjoy the view. Up at the Pousada its at least 5°C lower temperature then down in the valley. Its a very quiet place with a outside and inside pool, gym, great restaurant and nice breakfast buffet (coffee though is not the best...)

Fabulous. Staff amazing. Food and drinks great. Indoor pool was super. Didn't use the outdoor pool as it was a bit cold when we went (3°c) at the top of the mountain. Had a small accident when I was there and the staff where great in helping me! Matlida and Sierra (hopefully I got the names right, please correct me if not). Will definitely come back another time, such a wonderful hotel and location. Nothing was ever too much trouble.

I booked two rooms for my family. This was my first time at Pousada Serra da Estrela and it was very magical. The architecture and is classic and reminiscent of another time in history. The facilities were great, especially the grounds and indoor pool. The rooms were comfortable and very quiet. The hotel was not busy this weekend. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and the service was excellent. The staff were super friendly and Beatriz and Martim in the front office were extremely helpful and gave me great local information. They made our stay perfect. We will ve back soon.

It was quite possibly the worst hotel experience I have experienced in over 30 years of traveling around the globe. We booked for a single night stay to try out the hotel chain before we would decide to book at their other hotels along the coast for a later trip. We get there, having driven from France (there are no longer any borders in the European Union), and she tells me my husband's driver's licence from France is not valid enough as an ID to confirm that he is indeed going to be a guest at the hotel. She wanted his passport. Furthermore, she also wanted my passport and our son's passports, to confirm we were indeed who we said we were for so called "fire safety" measures. So what, without borders, we don't accept ID from other countries, especially ones from a European Union? We were turned away from the hotel and then we had to scramble to try and find other accommodations to avoid sleeping in our car. We ended up at the local hotel, and I will never EVER book or recommend booking with this absolute trash of a hotel company.

Rooms and location excellent!! It's an old Tuberculosis sanatorium and a historic hotel. Super views and large bedroom. Also has an electric charger. I give 3 star just because of the food 1) Hotel Restaurant - we had dinner and it was distraous. Our worst meal in Portugal. The couvert was bad!! Cold stale bread, just a couple of tea spoons of olive oil and way less butter!! In the mains we had the chickpea/sweet potato curry rice and fish pasta. Both were bland, no taste, I just tasted raw tumeric in chickpea rice, no other flavors. It seemed like it was sanatorium/hospital food. Way too expensive for what they offer..Staff was polite but majority of them don't speak English, which is totally fine, but overall we felt ignored. At the end I thought if asked I will give feedback but they never asked if I liked the meal. 2) Breakfast (included with the room) : Limited options, pastel de nata was not fresh!!!! Scrambled eggs were cold and had no salt. Beans was cold too!!! After I finished the breakfast, I saw the people next to me order omelette, if I would have know they can prepare an omelette I would definitely have asked for it. Luckily, there were fruits and cake, to make my breakfast decent. Very disappointing, if food would have been good, our stay would have been perfect.

Great location, amazing facilities and the design and architecture are impressive. Very friendly staff the only point I would like to see improved is the food it would make our experience perfect.|The kids area is very good and the pool is special.|We added an extra day to our stay, and will come back to enjoy the amazing view and service.

Hotel (Pousada) located in a nicely restored former tuberculosis sanatorium, that has a good-sized park out front that you can use to relax in. The rooms are beautiful and quite spacious. The pousada offers a great base for exploring the Serra de Estrela Nature Park, with the highest peak in continental Portugal only a 30-minute drive away. While there are many other options for staying around Serra de Estrela, the Pousada delivers superb value!l for an overnight stay. Perhaps the only thing to improve: the restaurant is quite pricey for what it offers, but there are other lunch and dinner options available nearby.
