I had to stop somewhere near Salvador airport for one night and arrived at gated pousada of Stella Topical which is fabulously located just one block from the amazing the Stella Maris coastline. There is no English speaker here so understandably the reception was quite muted - it probably didn't help that a teenager who was inexperienced at 'customer service' was serving me.||||The room was a decent size with a decent bed & clean sheets/towels/soap but the facilities e.g. fridge, shower room were definitely in need of an overhaul if not a clean; there was a really strong smell of toilet freshener emanating from the bowl throughout the entire room.||||The worst thing for me was the blacked out windows! They had put black sticky back plastic onto the panes for some bizarre reason so you either had to have the sliding windows open to get a bit of daylight thus exposing yourself to other guests walking by, or hide away in your artificially lit room. It felt confined (cell-like) to say the least, so I actually peeled a bit of the plastic back to lift my spirits, not to mention the light level in the room (I did of course replace it!)||||Otherwise, there was a functioning air con, ceiling fan and cable TV in the room and free wifi throughout the pousada - definite plus points to note. I was able to buy a can of coke from them but I don't think they did food throughout the day as the teenager receptionist seemed to indicate.||||Breakfast was less than adequate really - the juice was watered down and there was only one bizarrely flavoured juice to drink anyway. There was only a narrow selection of fresh food.||||There was no 'authority figure' to refer to i.e. someone who you could glean information from or welcome you - it was quite a soulless experience really.
