3 Best Day Trips from Lisbon | Condé Nast Traveler

"Obidos’ newest hotel is Pousada Vila Óbidos, an 18th-century house that has recently been converted into a boutique inn. In contrast with the medieval surroundings, the interior here is modern with a palette of powder blue and white. Its location—the periphery on the main drag—makes it a quiet refuge within reach of the main sites. Its small size—only 17 rooms—makes it checking in and out a breeze, and its small staff makes it easy to get to know everyone quickly." - Jenna Scatena

Great location inside the walls of the town. The hotel was impeccable. The room was outstanding. The bed was wonderful. The sheets and room smelled delightful. I thought I died and went to heaven. I don’t know what detergent or air freshener the hotel uses, but wow! I didn’t want to leave. The lady and gentleman who helped me check in were fantastic. They were warm, helpful and welcoming. The gentleman came and found me in the village as I initially had trouble locating the hotel. Exceptional experience.

This was a very lovely stay in a well loved Pousada. I have almost finished staying and all the Pousadas and this one was very nice. Breakfast is no longer included, and requires a €20 per person charge, and in the off-season at least, (I think) is held is the Castelo Pousada, a bit of a hike away, as is the Dinner (for sure). As we are staying next night at the Castle, we did not choose to pay for breakfast, so It would have been nice to have any coffee available in the morning, but we could not get the lobby coffee machine to work and no one around to assist. There were neither coffee facilities in the room. It is a very quiet time of year, so no worries, we found a lovely local cafe. Also, as mentioned, dinner is only offered at the Castle Pousada, and could not be billed to the room which was unfortunate for an Pestana Club Honors member, who gets points for such expenditures. The only additions I would love to see are robes, slippers, and body lotion, as well as coffee of course :-) The reception opens at 2pm and Adriana was very nice and professional. The place is quaint, lovely beds and linens, and the room was very comfortable. It is located in a very convenient location within town. I would love to stay here again!

Wonderful pousada inside the castle wall. Wonderful amenities, beautiful room with excellent bedding, rich breakfast buffet, and super helpful staff. Very quiet and right at one of the smaller entrances to the medieval city.

There are positives and negatives to staying at the Pousada Vila Obidos. To their credit, this is a very nice micro-hotel that is situated in an unusual place - Obidos. It is virtually in the shadow of a castle and the old world flair of this town makes it very special. The hotel itself is pretty and nicely appointed. Breakfast is the highlight of this hotel. || Now for the not so good... The hotel is not accessible by car so you need to be aware that you will have to carry all your baggage up a pretty steep cobblestone path and several steps to the front door. We did not know this until it was nearly too late to make other arrangements / cancel. We did receive an email during our travels with a "warning" but it seemed too late. We arrived during a rain storm, so the cobblestones were quite wet and slippery. The room was not completely clean with a used bottle left behind. Also, there is a cat (or cats) on the property that followed us everywhere. My husband is extremely allergic. Had we known there was a CAT on the property, at the breakfast area, and allowed to jump on the chairs and tables in the dining room we would never have booked here. Sorry, we were disappointed and itchy.

My daughter and I stayed two nights. Everything about this hotel was wonderful, once you figure out how to find it. The check-in process was easy and the staff gave us great tips on evening activities and restaurants. We happened to be staying there Good Friday and had no idea that the impressive procession would pass just at our room window, both at the start and at the finish. It was a highlight! The room was very clean, the beds very comfortable and the bathroom very efficient. The daily breakfast was outstanding, with anything you can imagine included. The town itself isn’t that big; one street is rather the busy shopping street, the other a restaurant street. I didn’t even try to walk the castle wall; it looked very intimidating! We strolled the one street of busy shops one day. There is some beautiful pottery to tempt you. The second day we took a midday venture to the Bacalhoa Buddha Eden in Bombarral, a very large and very impressive gardens, sculptures, landscaping and waterfalls. Obidos is a wonderful getaway town!

The hotel is located within the city walls. When there is a medieval festival, the free car park is 450 meters away and there are many stairs to get there. There is quite a good selection for breakfast, and it is included. The staff are pleasant and helpful, but the reception is only partially manned. We were upgraded to a superior room, and the room and bathroom were a good size with a view of the city wall. However, it was difficult to set the water temperature in the shower correctly and it constantly varied. There was free cherry in the room when we arrived, and a coffee machine available at the hotel around the clock.

Nice old building. Floors creak and the lights are wonky but good building overall and nice location.

Delightful small hotel, with good rooms, good bed and strong shower. Parking the car and finding the hotel entrance was a major challenge. We needed a good map and instructions from the hotel would have been helpful. Luckily we only had small suitcases which were still tricky negotiating the cobbled streets, many stone steps and hills inside the castle walls. We paid the full bill on arrival. The lady at reception was very helpful about booking evening restaurant. Breakfast around the internal courtyard was perfectly fine. Obidos got very busy with day tours from Lisbon, but was quiet in evening. Walking the castle walls was great fun with fantastic views, but not for the faint hearted or anyone who suffers vertigo.
