How to Plan a Ski Trip to Purgatory Resort in Colorado

"If you have a big group, I recommend 23 Powder Ridge at the base of Purgatory — a multilevel five-bedroom, five-bathroom home that sleeps up to 10, with a three-car garage, private hot tub, and an outside gas fireplace." - Evie Carrick Evie Carrick Evie Carrick is a writer and editor who’s lived in five countries and visited well over 50. I had not been up to Powder Ridge in years but a friend of mine suggested we go up there for lunch a couple weeks ago so we did. The waitress was awesome and the food was delicious and the beer too. I would definitely go back again.

Three-Star Review: Powder Ridge Resort (Spring/Summer Mountain Bike Park Only) I had a good time mountain biking at Powder Ridge, but a few things kept it from being a great experience. The trails themselves are very well maintained and offer a solid variety of features, which I appreciated. My son especially loved the paved bike park with bumps and jumps—it was a highlight for him. However, the food options were a major letdown. The restaurant’s hamburgers were completely inedible, and overall, the dining experience was poor. The only positive was that prices were reasonable. Another frustration was the bike wash station—there simply weren’t enough hoses, so the line became very long. On the trails, I found a lot of the other riders to be pretty rude. People would shout and demand I pull over, which made the experience less enjoyable. Powder Ridge should consider posting a code of conduct to encourage more courteous riding. I also wished there were more options to ride all over the mountain, not just on the marked, technical trails. More diversity in trail access would be welcome. The staff helping with bike loading and unloading were nice, which was a plus. Overall, it’s a decent spot for mountain biking, but several aspects need improvement for it to truly stand out

We went on a random Wednesday and it was fairly empty except for two camps that were there. The kids had fun. They loved going on the zip line. The waterslides are just OK. The water doesn't go all the way down the slides making it difficult to get all the way down the slide. They are really bumpy. My daugther is really light and tall so she took a beating coming down the slide being flung all over. Some of the kids working there were really nice and friendly and some were just playing with their cell phones not paying attention to what's going on.

If you’ve ridden at any other bike parks in the united states you will be very disappointed with powder ridge. Absolutely no trail maintenance takes place here,.the lift is sooo slow They should be ashamed to even charge people to ride it. A great idea would be to make it free admission for people that show up with rakes & leaf blowers. Best advice is to ride an e-bike up the maintenance road and skip the lift. At least then you can skip the 20 minute ride and have your bike hanging by its rim and banging on the chair for 20 minutes.

Was excited when we pulled up and the parking lot was pretty empty but it soon made sense. If you're used to any other MTB mountains this one is going to be underwhelming at best. When you finally find the trails they are filled with loose rocks (hazardous if you're following someone), appear unmaintained and are not well marked. Not worth the money for the price, go to some of CTs better MTB trails without lift service and you'll be better off

Wifey and I met up with friends to ride the bike park. Not disappointed, quite pleasantly surprised. No, it’s not thunder Mt or highland in NH. But it’s a hidden gem in CT and only an hr drive from western MA. YES one can ride fat tire bikes, as long as one has front suspension, is what the attendant informed me. We were riding 4” for a bit, then switched back to DS 29”x2.5 . All great flow at the top, some chunky and rocky sections towards the bottom. But hey that’s just the topical land area for the property. Less than 100 bucks for two tix, runs are short and sweet. Well worth the dollar value. Will definitely be back. 👍🏽

Arrived at the park. Very little signage on where to go. the ticket windows were closed. Walked next door to find out the store sells tickets. Nice people working in there. There were 2 lifts running but only one is for mountain biking. Again signage really sucks (this will come up again). Found the lift. Worker seemed like i was bothering him every time i came up. They have to load your bikes. Lift is very SLOW.. my ride down the mountian was faster then the lift. Fisrt run down trying different trails i was going to try green then blues. There were 3 green trails on the map on the top of the mountain and only one open, took lil bruiser. NOTE the trails was very rocky and rooted be careful not groomed well, got to a merge area where the green and blue trails were suppose to be and no marking, the green ended half way down the mountain so you take a access road to another area and you have to take a blue or black trail to get to the bottom. Not great for new riders. Passed a few on the way down that look scared. Took a blue jump trail. After that went to the cafeteria and was closed off. Went up stairs and the bar was empty. Not sure how to get food or drinks. Went to the store and got a power-aid. Went to the rental area. I talked to a very nice lady there that helped me find some trails and gave me some advice on which ones to try. Went back up took flow dog. Again interesting finding the trail. You have to hike up a stone cliff or go up what looks like a bike trail to get to the the 2 black diamonds or 2 blue trails. again no markings. Went down flow dog, btw not marked on the trail markings when you get off the lift, that was a fun ride very nice trails. bypassed the jumps as trying out a new bike and not fully setup right. at the bottom loss rocks. One flung up on my bike and another hit my legs. Wish the other trails were like this trail groomed better. On my last ride down i took lil bruiser, on advice from the rental lady i found Rattler, it was over grown and signage hidden never found half pipe, that was a fun ride down what looked like a old alpine trail with a cork screw. Over all the days was not bad but not great. Not sure i'll be back. Price is a little steep for the offering can get better value from a park in Mass for the same price.

Stayed here for two nights working an Eastern States Cup downhill MTB race. Room was great, newly renovated, very clean. Dining was excellent. Amazing venue!
