This is not Vail... and that's a good thing! My wife and I have been snowboarding in CO for over four years now, hitting all the hot spots like Aspen/Snowmass, Vail/Beaver Creek, Telluride, A-Basin, Crested Butte, Winter Park, etc. Now, having a baby and without a season pass we decided on a more economical option, so we went to Powderhorn not knowing what to expect. We bought our tickets ahead of time which saved us even more$$$. Total for 2 lift tickets was less than $100. The east end has some decent terrain but is really suited to the beginner/intermediate rider. The west end is where things get gnarly! If you like all-mountain freestyle terrain and powder-filled trees and glades, this is your zone. This terrain is super playful and fun. It's plenty steep for you advanced riders out there with lots of natural launches and boulder fields with pillows to play around on. And the trees are perfectly spaced. I couldn't tell you much about the grooming or the atmosphere at the base or what ski school is like, but if you are looking for advanced terrain on a budget, this is a solid option. This is coming from a rider who has hit just about every major mountain in Colorado. Loses one star for the slow lift on the west end. Minor inconvenience for the solid terrain and good vibes.
