On the Grid : Pozsonyi Tavern

"With its checkered tablecloths and booths that can comfortably accommodate an entire family, Pozsonyi Tavern with its homey atmosphere is loved by the locals, it’s mostly people from the neighborhood that crowd this corner eatery of Újlipót, but also turists visit the place. If you want to eat a great Hungarian meal, you should try this place which is called by the locals Kispozsonyi." - Bianka Bujdosó

Wow wow wow. I found this place after watching a YouTube video on best food to try in Budapest and it did not disappoint! We went 2x in our 5 day stay cause the food and service was so great. This was the best goulash we had of everywhere we went. One of the people in our party tried goulash in every restaurant after because it was so good here but then wanted to come back because this one was so much better. Would definitely recommend!!

Beautiful restaurant with traditional Hungarian flavors. The portions were large and delicious. We had the best soup in Budapest there. It is also chosen by locals, it is not just for tourists.

According to reddit, the best goulash in town and, indeed, it is very good. Goulash itself 9/10 (the only thing missing, it’s not spicy enough for a goulash). Potatoes are totally unseasoned, so it needed a lot of salt and pepper, 6/10. But overall, still one of the best in the city. Alternate options for a side dish are french fries. Employees were also very friendly and nice.

Amazing restaurant in Budapest! The mushroom appetizer was fantastic, and the goulash was just as delicious — rich, hearty, and full of flavor. The atmosphere is very authentic and cozy. Portions are huge — one goulash is easily enough for two people! The staff were also incredibly sweet and friendly. A must-visit if you’re in Budapest!

We went there for dinner, as many restaurants had their kitchen closed by the time we were getting hungry. This one is open until 11 pm, but the kitchen closes at 10 pm. The restaurant was clean, the waitresses were super nice, they speak English well and act fast; as I noticed, they are also patient with the customers that doesn’t understand neither English or Hungarian well. The food came in big portions, it was good, not the best one we have tasted, but an average taste for a reasonable price. We ordered goulash soup, walnut crepes, beer, coke and raspberry syrup soda. The service fee is not included, which I think is great, as many restaurants in Budapest have a 10-15% already added.

I tried the matzo ball soup, the Jókai bean soup, the beef stew, and the cottage cheese ball, all of them were excellent. The place offers delicious Hungarian dishes with a great variety, generous portions, fair prices, and friendly service. I can definitely recommend it and would happily return.

Overall we had a good experience but waiting for the service staff was slow and the waitress forgot my husband’s meal. But it then came out quickly which we appreciated. While the meat portions are huge I do recommend that you order a potato side or something to help round out the meat. I got the pork chop with cheese and sour cream. And we ordered the fried Camembert as a starter that came with a choice of potato.

The staff was great. Food was tasty. Size was good. Also it was not too salty. Desert was fun. Price was not too expensive. It was just right place to have a nice Hungarian dinner
