A beautiful, tranquil place to get away from the crowds, at least on a Christmas Eve afternoon when there were throngs all around the Jerónimos Monastery and Pastéis de Belém. Beautiful music played by a flautist in a big square in the park near the sea and the sailors' monument. This was a great place to while away some time in Belém and find a bit of peace and quiet.

The Empire Square Garden/ Jardim da Praça do Império was built in 1940. It is important for the commemorations to the history of Portugal all around. There is a fountain in the middle. There are ducks around. On the ground there are the coats of arms of Portuguese districts.
You can relax and sit in the shade of the trees. The shadow of the trees is good when it's very hot and sunny outside.
This is opposite the Monument to the Discoveries on one side and the monastery on the other. The planetarium is also nearby.
It is near the Pastéis de Belém where you can get the famous pastel de nata.

Α nice praca (square) in Belem. The fountain is very big and on its base there are various heraldic symbols. The whole place is very nice and cozy but would be much better it there were more trees to avoid the sun, especially in summer. Overall a nice place to see and be

Beautiful garden area where it's possible to have different types of experiences.
All the gardens cover the majority of the square and are surrounded by several different situations, thanks to the monuments that are all around.
The square and gardens are huge! Therefore, it's possible to have a relaxing walk along the way, full of trees, or all around the garden, before or after visiting the monuments or just to have a nice resting stop everywhere.

The park is beautifully renovated and maintained. It is not just a place between Jeronimos Monastery and the Monument to Discoveries, it deserves a stroll on its own merit. Views of monastery from the park are magnificent and more impressive than from sidewalk.
