What a gem! We stayed in the Prairie hotel for one night and enjoyed their beautiful food for dinner and breakfast. The rooms & guest space were beautiful, with lots of great books and art. The rooms were super clean. The food was amazing. I cannot believe how they can cook such fresh and haute cuisine food so far away from everything! I would highly recommend the feral mixed grill and feral antipasto. And the morning after, we had amazing breakfast with many options to choose from (including fresh fruit!). We cannot recommend the Prairie hotel enough to anyone! The staff was super friendly. You could really feel how much they enjoyed being so close to the Flinders ranges, living in a tight community and giving the guest the best experience possible. So, please visit this place! If you have to take a detour for it, it's worth it! Oh and the view is amazing!! Including beautiful sunsets.

Amazing location under a sky full of stars and friendly service… but the famous Road Kill Platter definitely “killed” me. It tasted heavy but okay at first, and then... two hours later... my stomach started its own off-road adventure. I spent the whole night vomiting like I was in a horror movie. Beautiful place, lovely people, but that platter and I will never meet again. Not recommending it unless you’re feeling brave… really brave.

Go to the Flinders Ranges and stay at the Prairie Hotel, it’s the perfect combination of country hospitality, fine food, comfortable, clean modern accommodation and good value. The team who run this place are exceptional. The quality they deliver at a price point that beats highly-rated places in our major capitals, is astounding this far into the Outback. We stayed for three nights. After returning from the USA to live here in Australia, we know that the Prairie is a go-to destination. Family-run, they clearly imbue high quality hospitality experiences in their staff training program. I can’t applaud it enough. And, the servings of food are ample! We couldn’t eat it all, so had delicious leftovers for lunch the next day on the trail. Spend your tourist dollars here and keep the Prairie thriving. It’s an investment in our tourism future. Well done Fargher family.

Sadly, the soul has gone from this once iconic outback pub. Once a fun hub of travel stories and commaradary, it is now just churning out overpriced crap to tour buses. $32 for a "wild boar" schnitzel turned out to be a deep fried, leathery slice of meat, totally devoid of any character, flavour or moisture. Camel burger was ok but unless you knew it was camel you'd put it down to a sub par burger with some passable chips. This place is clearly living on meat novelty and reputation. I do wonder if anyone feels like it's actually any good, or just a place that tradition dictates we must visit while out this way. Ambiance: Bewildered tour group members shouting into their phones with speaker on. Food: overpriced, novelty garbage with ok chips Beer: only had the can of pale ale which was meh. Sadly couldn't try the others as I was driving. Summary: go somewhere else. This pub is now a disappointing parody of an outback experience. Glad we didn't stay for the night like we'd planned. So sad after finally making it here with the time to spend 😢

A real highlight of our journey around Australia. We found it very reasonably priced. The building, the decor, everything was extremely welldone. The food presentation was great and flavours were fantastic. The beers were exceptional also. Plus the drive there has the most amazing scenery. A must visit!!!

beautiful building in a stunning arid landscape. The food was excellent, I had a feral platter including Kangaroo, Emu and Camel. There are a good selection of drinks including SA craft breweries. The staff were very friendly even under the pressure of a carport full of travellers and at least 2 tour buses. Well worth a visit.

We spent 3 days in the Flinders Ranges and not being experienced in camping, chose the Prairie as our base. We loved staying here! The hotel is so comfortable, clean and perfect for a good night’s rest after a long day out on the road. The food is delicious and worth trying their feral antipasto. Breakfast is included and it was delicious with plenty of options (continental and cooked). We were very well looked after by Ellie, Becky and Manny who were always friendly, up for a chat and very helpful with tips on how best to get around the area. Definitely recommend staying here and we’d definitely come back.

I tried to book a heritage room But given that it’s a long weekend, no bookings available. So…I’m in the overflow accommodation. The pub has some spanking good beers. I would suggest getting here before sunset and sinking one of the great site brewed beers while the sun goes down. Pub food is not basic, and there’s a decent menu. Highly recommend. In summery: great beers, great views, basic accomodation in the overflow area but clean and comfortable. Good staff, who are really pleasant to deal with. Would love to try the heritage pub rooms next time.

Yelp
Beautifully restored hotel with a wonderful selection of art and homewares created by an Aboriginal womens art collective on sale. The staff--one young woman when we were there--was lovely, very helpful and friendly. In the front bar of the hotel, apart from the usual alcoholic beverages, there was a selection of icecream as well, which I found to be very tempting. The dining rooms were immaculate, and the old, polished wood tables were very sturdy. The coffee was good, although my long black was more of a short black. My companion's skinny capucino, she said, was very good, and she'd had much worse in Adelaide, so she was very happy to have a good coffee. The hotel was well set out and it was very inviting with its beautiful decor and lighting, and the warm welcome from the friendly young woman behind the bar.

Yelp
Lunch stop while exploring the Flinders Range. Unique dining experience. Great service.
