50 States, 50 Desserts: America's Favorite Sweet Treats | Condé Nast Traveler

"In Newton I found Prairy’s peppernuts—snap‑size, anise‑and‑spice cookies that channel Mennonite and Volga German baking traditions and ship Great Plains goodies across the country." - Arati Menon, Megan Spurrell

I didn't get any pictures, but when I was there I picked up an assortment of Prairy Bites (delicious pop-in-your-mouth-sized treats) I tried the Lemon and really enjoyed the lemon with each crunch. I gave the other bags and trail mix away as travel gifts. (which is why I bought them!) I also bought some breakfast bars from the discount shelf - which really helped supplement me the next couple of mornings! I would visit again if I'm ever in the area!

Love the friendly service! Go on Friday at lunch to get the toasted cheese sandwich w tomato jam & tomato & roasted red pepper soup! Yum! In a hurry, they have lots of good take & bake meal options. They always have yummy options in their pastry case! Saturdays, they have fresh kernza wheat bread. Delicious for sandwiches or garlic bread. I love to just wander the store to find new treasures.

What a neat store. I went in on a whim and was not disappointed. The food was great and made of local products which you could by the raw materials there. Then they had other mercantile type items. Such a neat store.

We loved stopping by Prairy Market & Deli on our way through town to eat lunch and grab some snacks for the road. They have delicious soups made in house, boxed sandwiches with their bread baked in store, and snacks from local producers in their grab and go section. We loved their beef & barley soup, their hummus, and ate a ginger snap cream pie for dessert. They have local ice cream and some items in bulk too! Several of their packaged items contribute to the 1% for the tallgrass prairie program - we bought some German Pfeffernusse cookies to support. All around a great store!

We love stopping by Prairy for gifts, groceries, home goods, and my kid's favorite - toys! The staff is always so friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Prairy has expanded their offerings and their building, and it is such a fun destination type of shop. Must see!

Yelp
If you like local shopping, variety, and unique items then this is the place for you! There are four stores connected together so they sell food, wellness items, outdoor items, and toys. They have a LOT of locally made items from freshly made and grown food to other crafts. They have a spice / seasoning system where you can fill up something you bring from home to save some money on a container and get the exact amount you want. The people working here were all very nice, they were very helpful in explaining and showing us around. The vibe is very friendly and professional. They have some free samples by the front of some cookies. They even have an event area for parties, weddings, and more. This place has something for everyone.

Yelp
When we entered the toy section of the store, the cashier did not speak even when we spoke to her, and it was an uncomfortable atmosphere. As we were looking at items, she finally came out from behind the counter, and went over to each place where we had been looking as if to make sure that we didn't steal anything. The experience made me feel unwelcome and like she was relieved when we left. She never did speak to us. On a bright note, when we first entered through the cafe door, we were greeted and asked if we had any questions. Also, the store does smell amazing.

Yelp
This place is so fun!! i highly recommend checking out this place if you are driving by Newton, kansas. It is a large store with many sections to shop from. and everything is on the healthy or clean side of things. Even the bath stuff is "clean" which is super cool! I think we spent an hour alone just looking at all the unique stuff. You can also eat there but we did not. Sarah in the outdoor section was very friendly!! all the other staff was helpful too but Sarah checked us out. Definitely will be recommending this place to others!

Yelp
Love it! We're in there often to grab frozen meals, local cheese and ice cream, bulk spices and such. They have baked good and fresh produce. The selection of produce can be limited seasonally but is otherwise good. Service is excellent, it's nice seeing the same people when you go in and they make excellent suggestions. It's very clean, well stocked and also has an assortment of local good, postcards, stickers and things that add to the over look. Beautiful renovated building with high ceilings!

Yelp
Love this store. I am so happy that finally I can try these little cookies called peppernuts. They have sampling too but just get all the flavors. They are all good. Specialty goods and locally made like jewelry, soaps and perfumes.

Yelp
Lovely store with kind people who are always personable. I love the smell and the way the store is set up. Items to go, coffee and the hot bar are tasty and the market items are healthy and quality. I shop here weekly!

Yelp
There are many things I appreciate about Prairie Harvest, but I think that it's inappropriate to wear political messages in the workplace. An employee was wearing a blue lives matter shirt which made me feel uncomfortable and unsafe. Given the current political climate, it feels especially insensitive. I've always seen this business as a welcoming and accepting place for people of color and the LGBTQ+ community, but this definitely makes me question things.

Yelp
We ordered two cold brews that were $4.29 each but were charged $7 each. When we asked the manager she sassily told us to "look at the board" and said it was because the barista made an iced latte... even though that's not what we asked for. It's not right to argue with the customer and then charge them for something that was an employees fault. Not to mention the coffee was only decent and had lots of chunks in it (don't know what that's about). Overall I think you could find a better coffee shop with nicer employees, don't waste your money.

Yelp
This is a great place to get hard-to-find foods and spices, not to mention coffee, snacks, fudge, and kitchen products. Very eclectic selection. It's fun just to browse and see all the cool stuff they have. I'm not sure why the previous reviewer gave these shops only 2 stars, when they text of their post is appropriately positive. They must have accidentally clicked the wrong star. I think it's terrific!

Yelp
I really like this place. They have daily lunch specials, (their soups are generally the best choice.) They also stock local fresh fruits and veggies (the selection is smaller than i would like, and also a bit overpriced though, so use care when choosing what to buy) But by far my favorite part of the store is tucked away in the back. They have a small area in the rear of the store, with lines of jars filled with spices, and you can get as little or as much as you like in small Ziploc baggies. This may not seem like a big deal to the average shopper, but for me (I COOK and yes, i capitalized that for a reason - i am obsessed) It really is an amazing treat. I did only give 4 stars here though, because as mentioned before, the prices are a bit too high, and the selection rather Small.
