We tried the giant Ferris wheel, which gave us amazing views — definitely a highlight! The ride cost €6 per person, and it was well worth it. Keep in mind that while entry to the general park is free, each amusement game or ride has its own separate fee. There’s also a fantastic section within the park filled with restaurants! you can visit day or night. It’s a great area to relax after a walk or a fun ride, and it's equally enjoyable for both adults and kids. All in all, this park is a must-visit. Whether you're looking for a calm afternoon in nature or an exciting day of fun, it has it all in one place!

Prater at night is a whole vibe—the lights are dazzling, the energy is high, and the place is filled with young people enjoying themselves. The atmosphere alone makes it worth a visit. There are tons of rides and amusement games, from family-friendly options to seriously thrilling ones. I only managed to try the Ferris wheel. The ride goes for three rounds, and the view at the top is beautiful, but honestly, I’d recommend going for the newer Ferris wheel instead—it feels like the better option. I didn’t get to play the games, but walking around, you can tell it’d be a really fun spot if you had the time. One thing to note: most rides and games are individually priced. This works if you know exactly what you want to try, but if you’re hoping to experience everything, it might add up quickly. I didn’t come across a proper “all-access” pass, though maybe one exists. Still, it’s an exciting place to wander, soak in the vibes, and jump on a few rides that catch your eyes.

Impresive! Historical amusement park! This system without ticketing are actually super fun, so we can go anytime and just do the ride whichever we want and pay just those amount of money. I wish i had it on my own country. And the facts that its also open 24/7 even more amazing! This place have everything, but unfortunately in the end is kind of pricey tho.

Heaps of rides and attractions! We easily spent over 5 hours here and had a great time. There's roller-coasters, the sling shot, dodgem cars, ghost trains, fun house labyrinth and loads more to do.

This amusement park didn't disappoint. It has a variety of rides for every age and group size. Timeless, fun and exciting it is to walk around, hearing laughter all over. A great summer evening spent. The food, drinks and rides can be pricey but search in certain areas and you can find some affordable choices!) Spectacular!!! Nothing else like it in the world (that I have ever seen). Absolutely fun. Gives a feeling of going back to an era of amusement parks and fairs - with all the thrills of modern rides. Lots of games and delicious food too.

A great place to spend a day with kids! Our kids called this place “a heaven for kids” with everything they want, games, exciting rides, trains, food and drinks and many more. But be prepared to pay .50 cents to 1 euro for the restrooms 🤭

I didn’t go on any rides during my visit, but simply walking through the park at night was an experience in itself. ⸻ Atmosphere: The whole area is beautifully integrated into the city. You’re surrounded by nature, neon lights, and the sound of laughter and music — all while still being in Vienna proper. It feels like a mini world of its own, full of color and energy, but never overwhelming. Even just taking a stroll through, snapping some photos, and soaking in the ambiance was incredibly enjoyable. The park is well-lit, safe, and full of life — great for solo exploring, date nights, or family outings. ⸻ Highlights: • Iconic Ferris wheel views • Lively, colorful streets full of energy • Perfect for evening walks and photos • A fun contrast to the historical and classical side of Vienna ⸻ Final Thoughts: Even if you don’t plan to ride anything, Prater is worth a visit. Such a fun amusement park! We went on the Wiener Riesenvad ferris wheel and the view was spectacular! Highly recommend going here if you have extra time to spare. So many retro rides and games! I guarantee you'll have a smile on your face the entire time!

Well this was a great treat. Loved that I could walk around and amusement park and partake in rides, games, vendors and restaurants all without an entrance fee. Tickets are available throughout but you can choose single rides to packages or just stroll around. Great for individuals, couples, families. Easy access to trains. If your hungry I highly recommend the Schweizerhaus garden ( see my review)

A 1766 amusement park inside a massive public park? We'd go even if we didn't have a six-year-old. As a surprise one evening while in Vienna, we took our daughter here. She (and we) had a blast. It's free to enter and every ride is pay-as-you-go. Each ride has a kiosk next door where you pay with card or some require cash only. (There are ATMs throughout the park.) There are fun houses, horse rides, roller coasters, and an old Ferris wheel. There are also restaurants and food stands. Each ride is between 3-5 Euros per person. We let our daughter pick five rides. The water slide and the fun house we're her favorites!

One of the oldest amusement park in Europe and oldest Ferris wheel. It's an outdoor park and free to get in. You only pay for what you want to ride. We came here just for the giant Ferris wheel. We stood in line for 20 minutes to get tickets then they put you in a holding room for five minutes. Then to another line to get on the wheel. Once you're in the air, it's another 20 mins to go around. I would say a good hour from beginning to end to ride the wheel. Best way to see the city from above. Highly recommend! There's a middle bench if you want to sit. Otherwise it's all standing and windows throughout.

Prater is one of the oldest amusement parks in the world. It's been around since 1766. Admission to the park is free. There is only a charge for any of the rides/attractions. The most popular thing to see here is the giant Ferris wheel, which was built in 1897. The whole look and feel of the amusement park reminded me of the rides one would see at a country fair or a small carnival in the U.S.. They seemed a little cheap and not that impressive. The only ride I went on was the Ferris wheel, which has 15 gondolas and goes up to about 215 feet. It offers a good view of the city. Overall, I felt the park was just OK and all the attractions seem pretty cheap and antiquated. The Ferris wheel maybe worth checking out for the history, but other than that, I would skip everything here.

A really nice park to visit, that is also free to walk around in. The rides are way over priced at about $5 per person. But the park is super clean and does have tons of rides, food and games to enjoy.

Very famous park in Vienna build in 1766, then got fired and was reconstructed in 1945. It was fantastic!!! You have so many options that you could stay for a whole day: rollercoasters, video games, carrousel, kartings, everything you could imagine. You have several options to eat inside the park too. There is no entrance fee, you pay at each game (4 euros each in average). We had so much fun! Muy famoso parque de diversiones de Vienna construido en 1766, después se incendió y lo reconstruyeron en 1945. Fue fantástico!!! Tenes tantas opciones que te podrías quedar un día entero: montañas rusas, video juegos, calesitas, kartings, todo lo que se te pueda imaginar. Tenes varias opciones para comer dentro del parque también. No se paga una entrada, se paga cada juego (en promedio salen 4 euros cada uno). Nos divertimos tanto!

First a bit of history: originated in 1780. This is the playground for Vienna. I guess you can say Vienna's mini Disneyland. The Prater is a massive amusement park. There is so much to do and you don't have to be a child to enjoy. It is free to enter the park, you pay to utilize the rides. There is a kiosk located not too far from entrance to purchase tickets. As you enter, there is a great vibe to let yourself get caught up in. I felt like a kid marveling at the set up of the rides, the smell of hot punsch served in ceramic stocking mugs and the crisp wintry air. The locals chatting at stand up tables, nibbling on hotdogs and seeing the excitement in each child's eyes, made this visit quite special. There is also a planetarium to soak up some science. Of course there is a Xmas Market and a huge souvenir shop. The shop sells everything from kitchen mitts, to Mozart music boxes, Klimt objects and magnets. The only downfall was 1 cashier was working on such a busy day. As all over Europe you have to pay to use the lavatory. The park is accessible by Tram or Metro. Biggest star of the park: the Ferris wheel. Ah to be a kid again!

This is one of the oldest amusement parks in the world. It's a typical amusement park found everywhere people need to go and have fun riding rides that excite, amuse, and allow you to admire the sights from high vantage points while spinning, rolling or being rocked gently. What could be more fun? It's mostly for teenagers but the young at heart no matter how young that is will always find enjoyment here. There's plenty of junk food, too. It's easy to get to via the metro. When you tire of all the awe and wonder the museums and art galleries offer, treat yourself to some good old fun at the amusement park.

I didn't know I was going to a fair. I thought it was just a park. I thought this place was so neat. There's free entry (is that standard?) And you pay for rides. My friends and I went on a swing ride for 3 euros, there was another one we liked for 8 euros. There are lots of places to eat and they are quite affordable. The park is clean, there are plenty of restrooms (50 cents), there's a Madame Tussaud's in there, and some really neat rides and roller coasters. It was a ton of fun.

One of the best places in Vienna to have a fun with children. And of course you must visit the ferris wheel!) Btw, the museum of Madame Tussauds is also there in the Prater park.

I had more fun here than I ever imagined. The Ferris wheel was for a time the largest in the world. There are cafes and restaurants everywhere. The theme park itself has so many rides I could not do them all even in 3 visits. Everyone here drinks, eats, and has a really good time: especially in the Spring when the weather warms up and the park reopens. Go here... it is a good time, even if all you do is eat and drink.

Nostalgia of the First Republic Period with a wonderful old-fashioned big wheel :) Excellent attractions of almost Dutch type, they don´t bring too much adrenaline, but one appreciates them in one´s teens. And I did so even many a year after my teens. :D And there was only one little girl riding such a tiny old merry-go-round. Tenderness and romance :) Pretty good parking in nearby garages, I guess we paid four euros for two hours. One star less for only one key detail: Cards are accepted NOWHERE :/ As a result the reversion to the past is tougher than it may seem. :D Nostalgie prvorepublikových časů s báječným staromódním kolem :) Výborné atrakce skoro holandského typu, nejde o megaadrenalin, ale v pubertě člověk ocení. Já tedy i drahně let po pubertě :D A takovej maličkej starodávnej kolotočíček tam pustili jen s jednou holčičkou. Něha a romantika :) Vcelku slušné parkování v blízkých garážích, tuším čtyři éčka za dvě hodiny. Hvězda dolu jen za jednu klíčovou drobnost: NIKDE se nedá platit kartou :/ On je ten návrat v čase v důsledku drsnější, než se může zdát :D

This place is like great america but summer festival style with all the same rides ans carny games. Its pricey so if you will more than a ride or tso a pass maybe worth it. Food and stuff relativelu affordable. Just keep change for the restroom. Its 0.50. Worth the walk over from city center if you wang someghjng different and mayb a little less touristy.

Clearly a place to be enjoyed in the summertime, the Prater is a place for fairly inexpensive and endless entertainment. Whether you choose to ride any of the attractions in the amusement park, or simply bring a basket and have a picnic on the lawn, you will find plenty of material to entertain yourself. Don't underestimate the value of people watching, this may just be one of the most entertaining experiences here.

A park that has been enjoyed for many, many, many years the first time we experienced it our eldest was just a child. Now we have many memories and she still enjoys visiting Prater with us as an adult. It is an old school amusement park that has a great Ferris Wheel which is the center of attention of the park itself. There are games and even a fun house with the cutest "scary" statues. Our favorite past time here, then and now, is bringing a picnic lunch in great weather and just having a great time with family.

LOVE this park. I love that you pay for the individual ride you want to experience. The big ferris wheel is a must do! There is so much history to this wheel that you have the opportunity to read about before you get on the ride. I was fortunate to see sunset while at the top of the wheel looking out to all of Vienna!! The line was a little long but moved along rather quickly. This is a spectacular way to view the city views. They are absolutely breath taking.

Expensive, but a wide range of attractions, especially if you love rollercoasters and haunted houses/rides. Excellent for the kids. The ride where you're faced forward, laying on your stomach was a big disappointment and felt unsafe. Extremely empty when it's raining. Madam Tussaud's had interesting historic people, but kinda small maybe. Wouldn't recommend buying the Highlights if you're mainly there for the attractions. Awfully rude service at the entrance, didn't feel very welcome as a tourist.

I love old style theme parks, and this was really great, plus with more modern rides too! It's got all the sorts of throwing and shooting galleries you can think of, arcades and claw machines (which I probably tried every single one that had Minion toys as a prize). I didn't get to go on all the rides I wanted (time and weather permitting, really), but the ones we did were brilliant. There's two haunted houses there we tried, one is really kind of lame, but in a hilarious way, and the other, Hotel Psycho or something, while also hilarious, is much higher quality with CG effects and other surprises. It's also the source of my favourite souvenir, a shot of me and my partner on the ride, but she'd probably be quite cross if I posted it. I didn't win any Minions either, by the way.

Last night ,I been there with my friend and experienced the ferris wheel which one of oldest in the world.since1897,quite nice particular when the wheel turns at the top then look down around .awesome view!!

I guess they mean when they say close at 1:00am means you can walk through it and there are maybe two restaurants open there cause nothing was there at about 8pm on a tuesday in late november. Was nice to view though

So much fun to be had in one place! We wandered over to the Prater to check out the Ferris wheel, not realising it was a fully blown amusement park complete with roller coasters, bumper cars, ghost trains, sideshow alley games and go kart racing. There is some serious rides here for the thrill seekers out there, including a slingshot that will fling you way up into the sky within a matter of seconds. For he more timid, such as myself, the iconic Ferris wheel, the 'Wiener Reisenrad' will make for a half hour very well spent -particularly if you go at dusk! Highly recommended for a fun day/evening out in Vienna!

The Prater is a very fun place to be. Entrance is free, you just pay for the rides and the food if you decide to avail of them. It is totally possible to enter and just walk around. Sometimes they have themed events like the Sci-Fi day which they had last June 10, but even without an occasion, the rides and activities at the Prater are worth visiting - again and again.

The park is huge and wonderful to experience while riding bikes. This park makes the list for a classic Viennese experience. Leider ist der Prater in Wien nett, aber nichts Besonderes. Aber das Riesenrad ist ein Muss!

This amusement park, once Emperor Josef II's hunting grounds and in the 1780s his gift to the Viennese, is pleasant even in the winter. The park is a bit 'tired,' though, and could use some periodic maintenance. I was here just to see the Riesenrad because of the Third Man. Kind of a run-down park.

The Prater IS Vienna. BYOB and spend your evening under the stars enjoying the people watching, the food, and the rides. I went to Vienna for a few days with my sister and we didn't make it over to the Prater, so I was really lucky to have a one night stop in Wien on my way back to Munich from Budapest. We knew we had our chance to check out the Prater! We brought some wine and strolled through the park enjoying all of the sites and even a few rides. If we had more than one night, I would have gone back several times.

There are many things that I will cherish about my trip to Prater. One is the view from atop the mountain and being able to see the Danube and Hungary in the distance. Another is the Ferris Wheel. Little did I know that is was part of a film. The food is definitely another memory. I loved the corn on the cob being cooked in huge open pots and the slathering a piece with butter. There is also a museum to learn more about the history of the park. The Prater was once only accessible to aristocrats who used the area as a hunting ground. I am so glad I was able to visit.

Although it's famous for the Riesenrad ferris wheel Prater has a lot more to offer. It's very much an old fashioned amusement park - especially as you go further from the ferris wheel. There are plenty of modern attractions but I quite enjoyed some of the older ones like the charmingly naff ghost trains.

I accidentally spent far too much money here. It's free to get in, but easy to spend everything you own! I was there on a cold wintery night in March and as there were very few other people there we could just stroll onto any ride we wanted without having to wait. Of course you have to pay for every ride individually and that can quickly add up. It's a lot of fun though, especially if you're at a loss for something to do for a few hours.

The heart of Vienna beats beneath the Prater. If you have a half or full day to spend walking around the Prater then please do. Starting from the Praterstern end you pass the planetarium and head into the amusement park dominated by the 60 plus year old Giant ferris wheel. Fun for the whole family is to be had here in the summer. But when the weather turns colder its the park itself that shines. 6 millions square meters of parkland are dissected by the 4 kilometre long arrow straight Hauptalle. To either side there is (almost) every type of outdoor sporting activity known to man. Field hockey, baseball, softball, golf, ultimate (frisbee golf), tennis, basketball and course soccer is all catered for here as well as a skate park, bmx circuit, nordic walking and inline skates and bicycles for hire. Horse tracks also zigzag through the trees and there are plenty of walking paths, open spaces and benches. The city's horse racing arena, swimming baths and football stadium are also located on the outskirts of the park. Oh and a bowling alley too. Literally whatever you want is available here and walking through the park it is easy to forget you are in a city. The perfect place to take a picnic basket and blanket, a football and some friends and enjoy the fresh air!

Its Vienna's biggest amusement park and the place is a hit for the whole family. Loaded with tons of rides for the big and the small the Prater is also a great place for a picnic or a fun day at the park. Filled with games, rides, restaurants, a casino and the very large Ferris wheel, which is one of Vienna's greatest attractions, the Prater is loved by all and especially the tourists from all around.

I am still kicking myself that I didn't ride the Ferris wheel when I studied abroad in Vienna during the summer of 2006. Just swallow your cheapness, if you are like me, or spend the 30euro or whatever and ride the darn thing. It's awesome. The prater is definitely a local flavor type of place. Carnies galore, bumper cars, faire food, the works. Our program had rooms in an apartment complex practically across the street from the park. However, we did have someone's room broken into while we were there...not the most desirable neighborhood, though maybe things have changed. The student and her friend chased down the burglar and got back their laptop and other electronics though. It was bad#$$, however our professor told us that the cops were calling her 'crazy' in german. Fond memories to be sure.

One of the things we Americans love to do is charge people. If you go to a fair, ya' got to pay to get in and then pay to ride the rides. Well I got lucky in that my friend lives blocks from this huge fair and it is free to get in. You can just walk around until your little hearts content taking pictures and absorbing the sights and sounds of this large amusement park without spending a single nickel (or euro). We went on a Tuesday night. It was an odd night because most of the rides were open, but there were no lines, few people, and most of the rides only had about 5 or 6 people on them when they could hold up to 30 or 40. It felt so desolate and lonely in there, but at the same time bright lights were flashing and music was playing. That only increased the feeling of abandonment and emptiness. I quite liked it and took loads of pictures. We also paid to ride a couple of rides. The cat and mouse ride where the car you're in spins and goes into the cats mouth was crazy funny. It had me giggling like a mad woman the whole time. One of the many fun houses kept us entertained with it's multiple levels of gags. There are a lot of food vendor's, but there was one little cart close to the entrance that served up mini fried donuts.. she fries them as you order them.. shit was melt in your mouth good. Get the cinnamon, it's worth it! I wish this place was a couple of blocks from my house. I would wander about on a daily basis.

It's impossible for me to recall my childhood without remembering all the fun times I had at the Prater. Although the only ride I recognized was the haunted house with the gorilla. Lots of very fun rides, the ferris wheel and some sling shot looking ride give great views of the city! The rides are kind of expensive, around 3 or 4 euro each, although there are all kinds of cheaper rides as well. The Prater is perfect if you want to waste time and enjoy a lazy day.

Considering i have a huge fear of heights, the ferris wheel probably wasn't the best thing to do the last night in Vienna. Better to go during the day too. In the night you just see a bunch of blurry lights. Also it's kinda far from the center.

If you're in Vienna you need to check it out. Try a ride and have a stelze alongside it a beer. Then walk through park back towards city. It'll be fun and a change of scenery from walking around in centre.

Prater is popular with tourists and locals also get a scoop. I went there on this blistering weekend and even took the local train ride (4 Euros a pop) because I was feeling very lazy. It's basically a big entertainment theme park which kids like and tourists go to see. There are also natural reserves/grass areas around, and you can rent bikes and find Austrian style bistros to drink and eat away at. Company is very varied though as well mind you but still lots of families and couples in the day time.

I wouldn't classify this place as an amusement park but more of a run down carnival (but I am visiting in the fall... Versus summer?) the larger Ferris wheel, with small open carts has beautiful views and is only 3,50€. Happy I went, but seems overrated.

I love this park, the perfect place for walking under the trees, running, bicycling (you can rent a bike for 5€ the hour), having picnic, or simply to meet friends and have fun!

If you are going to Vienna, then a visit to the Prater is a must.
