We arrived on a Friday night, there were many people just hanging out on the porch of the hotel which were drinking, listening to music, smoking weed, selling weed, this continued throughout our stay...whatever. Welcome to South Beach.
Our stay was for 6 nights, we had a room on the first floor, first hallway right by the front door which we asked if we can be relocated and the woman said that we would have to ask on Monday... okay, we just left it alone. The room was decent, it was cleaned, and prepared for our stay. Kudos to the cleaning crew because they did a great job every day in our room.
We had an issue one night with the safe which it wouldn't open after we had been using it for a few days & the front desk questioned us about what we had in there (we had our work laptops & wallets in there) just to tell it that we had to wait til the next day to get it opened. The shower water our whole stay was literally boiling hot! We had maintenance come twice to fix it and it literally just went down a full degrees (not a good thing when you've been baking in the sun all day).
The hotel is very accessible to the outside public which was a bit of concern for us. As a homeless man literally kept walking into the hotel to go to the public bathrooms, our room was right on the other side of that & from the front lobby to where the rooms are there is no key pad or code to put in just open access. The whole time we really wasn't sure who was staying at our hotel or just hanging around/in it. The staff called the cops a few times we were here to have people removed. There is a small bar in the front but it is only open for a few hours.
Next, breakfast... they usually do buffet but because of the pandemic they serve what they normally would have out... every day our breakfast and coffee was cold. The toast and the bagel were never toasted either. They do not have enough servers and take their time so make sure you go early as if not you will be waiting 30+ mins for cold breakfast that doesn't really have much taste. The nice part is for breakfast you can sit on the porch, the inside or outside in their little garden which is nice.
The pool is on the rooftop was cool, no real issues there other than it is a lot smaller than expected and can get a little overcrowded. There is an attendant there to get you what you need and help. Elliot was great while we were at the pool. A lot of the staff here were honestly just rude, except a small handful. We asked for a bottle opener on two occasions and they said they didn't have any and to ask the bartender (the bar was closed) so according to them the bartender takes home the cork screw home with him... but it's a hotel & they didn't have any.
Overall, good location. The rooms were small but that's expected still has everything you need. Cold, not so good buffet type breakfast, rude staff, mediocre pool.
