Been here 2 times for work lunches and it might be one of my favorite spots. I'm upset I didn't find them sooner. Oysters have been amazing both times (they have this vinegar with picked onions that you drizzle on top paired with horseradish and ooooh my lord!) I haven't had anything I haven't liked yet.

A friend recommended this place, and it did not disappoint! We called to make reservations, and the beautiful table was waiting for us when we arrived. The food was fantastic! The hanger steak and lavender creme brulee were to die for! And fresh bread kept on coming! Service was great, too! Worth the hike, for sure!

This was an incredible dining experience. Everything was perfect, from speaking to the maitre d about how I was dressed, which he was fine with me being in shorts and a nice Tshirt, to the appetizers, entree's and the desserts. Bela was the most professional and cordial server we could've asked for, she is definitely an asset to this establishment. Grilled shrimp appetizer was delicious as was the potato and leek soup of the day. Grilled scallops over risotto was superb as was the special of the day which was haddock in an incredible cream sauce. Panna cotta for dessert is a must and they better not take that off the menu. This restaurant is a must do if you're in the area. And a big thank you to all the staff and chefs, you are doing an amazing job, keep up the great work.

We stopped in for an early dinner at the bar. Susie was very friendly and informative. After a quick bite, we had a delicious panna cotta and espresso martinis.

The press room is a beautiful restaurant, with excellent decor and staff. It comes off elegant with all of the candles and cloth napkins. Atmosphere and service aside the food was incredibly lackluster especially for the price you pay. I would honestly rather drive all the way to Frederick for better tasting food. I ended up getting an alfredo pasta dish with berries I would have gone with the chicken variant but they were out. They didn't do anything unique with the fruit, they essentially just grabbed a handful of blueberries raspberries add blackberries and tossed them on top of the noodles. It was ok My partner ended up getting the swordfish, it came out relatively cold. The fish had wonderful looking sear marks but it was over salted. It was pretty good would recommend The oyster appetizer was delicious.

Listen… okay just go and check out this place, you will enjoy! 100/100 on food taste/presentation, drinks, desserts and ambience.

Google
We made reservations for our anniversary and they called us back a few days before to let us know about streetfest so we could have time to park. So awesome of them to do that! Our table was ready a bit early… service was absolutely outstanding and the food - WOW. This is the best dinner we’ve had close to Hagerstown. They even put a little candle in our dessert. So sweet!! We will definitely be coming back.

As someone who has been brought up in the restaurant industry it's a rarity that I will actually write a negative review even when it's warranted. Particularly when I live in the area. But my disgust with some of the customer service here numerous times is enough. This place hates having kids - I have called for reservations and if I disclose I have kids with me I am consistently told they have no availability (this happened a few times already) so - just to see our friends from out of town called 5 minutes later for the same time & guest count and low and behold they had availability . Because of this we often call to order out from there now because this town has very limited options. Every time the same guy picks up I am told no we are too busy EVEN when I call two minutes after the restaurant opens. This is the same guy who lied about availability. He is always impolite when we walk in as well. As someone who worked in NYC as a waitress I 100% understand busy but rudeness is not OK. It's also not ok for the service to be mediocre and slow when it's not busy, which has happened twice to us at the bar. If it was not for the limited options I'd say I'd never give my business here again. But sadly that's not an option so they are able to get away with this inhospitable behavior. The table service is usually good at least but at this point I'd much rather drive further out and give my business elsewhere and get fantastic food. The guy who is the host and handles the phone calls (usually) needs to be trained in hospitable behavior. Even if you are in the weeds the customers and potential customers should never know. That is the mark of an excellent restaurant. People come back for a few reasons - excellent food, excellent service or because options are limited. The press room is option 3. As this area grows if they don't adapt and better restaurant's come in they will fail. Also mind you - anytime I call to order out or make a reservation and its' not him there are no issues. It's literally always him.

Yelp
We were visiting from out of town this week and this restaurant was highly recommended. Well, it didn't let down! The food was Devine and our server, David, was amazing. He was very thorough with describing the dishes, which I appreciated. We chose the oysters......omg, delicious! The mussels were so good and they were in the best broth I've ever tasted. My fiance had the scallops and loved them. So, if you're in this lovely little town, then you must stop by.

Yelp
I had the Borsao red with the Berry Pasta Tagliatelle with Lite Alfredo Sauce , Fresh Strawberries & Shaved Asiago and a bit of bread with olive oil. I had this pasta dish 10 years ago and just was ecstatic when I found it on the menu again. I remember it with blackberries. The strawberries were not the best flavor/sweetness wise but they were adequate, but the pasta and the special Alfredo sauce were delicious and worth the price. I also enjoyed the wine the bartender recommended, and the atmosphere was pleasant.
google avatar

Yelp
Oysters were all amazing. The hangar steak was very tender and flavorful with great mashed potatoes and green beans. David was a very good waiter. Ambiance was lovely.

Yelp
Loved it!! My lamb chops were the best I've had! Service was outstanding too! Everything we had was outstanding

Yelp
I have dined here many times and love it. The food and service is always fantastic! The decor is charming. The pot roast is one of our favorites and the lavender crème brûlée is delicious. Finally, prices are very reasonable considering the quality of the food.

Yelp
Great place for a date. Food was delicious and great wine selection. I had a ribeye with asparagus very tasty our server was knowledgeable on all the specials and wines. Romantic place dim lights cloth tablecloth

Yelp
Wonderful seasonal dishes and top notch service! The location and building provide wonderful ambiance. I had the roasted beet salad; a creamy pasta with seasonal berries (that was delicious and like nothing I've ever had before); and a lemon cake with lemon curd, fresh whipped cream and more berries. And a crisp glass of wine. Just wonderful!

Christopher J.

Yelp
The food, service and ambiance was great. I highly recommend. One of the nicer restaurants on this side of WV.

William H.

Yelp
They have a chalked in menu on the sidewalk and I guarantee you the food is spectacular price to market. You will not go wrong having a wonderful Donnie experience. The wine list is considerably interesting and the staff are professional, and appeared very well groomed.

Yelp
So, for my first visit I will say the ambiance is fantastic for a tucked-in but elevated bite to eat or drink. It's a quaint spot and I really like the atmosphere. The bolognese was alright, but nothing remarkable that left a lasting impression. I was excited about the shrimp and white beans appetizer but it left a lot to the imagination as far as taste. I was disappointed that it was quite bland, which is especially important considering the texture of cooked white beans and how the flavor and texture have to work together to pull that off. After some serious salting it was alright, but salt alone wouldn't have made that a great small plate. I'm hopeful though that on my next visit, and I try something new, I'll be a full two thumbs up.

Yelp
Took two friends here for dinner this evening on Sunday without a reservation and we were seated right away. Everyone had a pasta dish and they were beautifully executed with a lot of good flavor and very generous portions. Nice low key atmosphere and the manager stopped by to say hi a couple of times. Very pleasant.

Yelp
The selection of food is excellent, fresh and tasty! The service is always on par. The same people have worked at The Press Room for years. They are efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. The restaurant and bar are cozy and inviting!

Kathy M.

Yelp
Great food, great service! The crème brûlée was amazing. Very nice vibe casual yet classic.

Yelp
This place is wonderful! Great food! Great service! We shared an appetizer special consisting of figs with Gorgonzola that was wrapped in prosciutto & the whole thing sautéed. So delicious! For an entree, we shared the flounder that had been baked with a light coating of panko with lots of butter. Absolutely perfect! So many other items on the menu looked great, too!

Yelp
Best restaurant in Shepherdstown. Exceptional food, service, ambiance. Many lovely memories made here.

Yelp
WOW. I have here for 5 of my friends and HIGHLY recommend. We were at the pool and this lady told us we had to go and we are so happy we got a reservation. We had a lovely waiter, a gentlemen who help us with all our annoying needs and questions. The food was GOOD. We got lots of it and all were very good. We also order all the desserts- all still very good.

Yelp
Came here on a work dinner and had really high expectations. I got the duck and it was really tough. Any good duck I have is usually extremely tender and juice, almost soft. It was not cooked well and not the greatest flavor. I tried my co-workers lamb and it was nothing special either. The oysters were good nothing amazing. si did love my apple desert but my colleague said her creme brûlée was nothing special. I think the atmosphere is amazing and special and the service top notch but the food isn't worth the price. I've had muchhh better of all the dishes we had.

Patrick S.

Yelp
Great food and service. Went there for the first time three weeks ago. This seems like one of the best restaurants in the area. Can't wait to go back again.

Yelp
Oysters are amazing! Romantic setting! Great place to take the love of your life! Anything they do with mushrooms is great!

Yelp
Snubbed as soon as my husband and I walked in. Yes, we are not white and aren't decked out in diamonds or expensive clothes, but we were well dressed nonetheless and hoping to enjoy a date while on vacation. We were asked if we had a reservation which we did not and we were told to wait to see if they could accommodate us. The restaurant was only 1/3 occupied and after some running back and forth for what seemed way too long, they finally seated us towards the back of the restaurant. We saw a group of 5/6 people come in with no reservations, but they were seated right away. The food was just okay. Felt the waiter seemed surprised to see us, but he did his best to be nice? Will not recommend if you are not white and upper middle class.

Colleen W.

Yelp
Hands down this is our all-time favorite restaurant. The service is always outstanding, and the food is delicious. For the dozens of times we have dined there it has always been an enjoyable experience. This restaurant is always busy, and I would highly recommend making a reservation.

Yelp
The food is top notch. The service is excellent. We go here for both special occasions and just regular meals. It is very, very good.

Yelp
Warm inviting atmosphere-definitely not too loud . Very personable wait staff. Most importantly wonderful varied menus with lots of choices .the burrata salad with pears was delicious . The pappardelle with lovely bolognese was perfect. So many options for dessert -the tiramisu was not disappointing . We were here 6 months ago and looking forward to our next visit!!

Holly M.

Yelp
A great meal with great service. A local gem. The gorgonzola on the beet salad was to die for!

Chuck D.

Yelp
Very accommodating! We were on the road passing Frederick, Md when we called for our reservation, approx an hour from Sheherdstown on a Friday evening. It took a few minutes but they were able to give us a reservation. We arrived a few minutes pass our projected ETA but still seated. The cusine was excellent and the hospitality was also. Would definity return.

Kat D.

Yelp
I ordered stuffed fig wrapped in bacon. I love fig and goat cheese and these two flavors are wonderful together but could not even taste the goat cheese. I love duck breast and in the past the Press Room has been the best. This time I was truly disappointed. The skin was black yet not crisp. It was inedible. The duck itself was perfectly cooked medium rare but lacked seasoning. The confit was wonderful and green beans very good. My friend ordered Gazpacho which she said was wonderful. She also ordered the special which was swordfish with black rice. The fish and the rice were both under seasoned. The rice tasted like nothing. It was weird to have the texture in your mouth with absolutely no taste. The fish was slightly over cooked and again no seasoning. Desert was very good. I love the lavender creme burlee which was perfect. My friend ordered lemon sorbet.

Yelp
Had no trouble getting reservation during CATF preview week. Play ran late and restaurant called to check on when we'd be arriving - nice touch. On-street parking was easy. Fine Italian dining that can be very expensive or just a really nice meal out. Waiter was very attentive, suggesting a glass of wine that hubby would enjoy based on what he likes. Both our $8 glasses were very tasty. I had a beet salad with goat cheese, etc. Delish. Hubby had very generous bowl of soup. We both had bowls of pasta -- mushroom (oh my!) and salmon (fresh salmon, smoky flavor, delicious). We had so much that it made for another dinner at home. Setting is perfect for a romantic date or intimate gathering of friends. Shared zabaglione for dessert - layered with berries. Good but if you're used to the real thing, this isn't' it. Whipped cream is mixed in with the zabaglione so that it really loses the special flavor that makes zabaglione. lol forward to eating there again when we visit Shepherdstown.

Yelp
This incident occurred in August 2020. It was right before opening, and my daughter (who had never been) and I wanted to have dinner and drinks. A woman came out of the restaurant, and I asked if we could make a reservation. She responded by asking us what we would be ordering, and when I said appetizers and drinks, she said she didn't have any tables for us, and that we could sit outside (It was raining!). I'm sure if it was somebody she knew (lawyer, doctor, local politician), we wouldn't have had any problem getting a table. A restaurant choosing its customers is not what I expected. So my daughter and I instead went to the Bavarian Inn, and she loved it. By the way, we are white and were dressed nicely. I have been here before and the food is excellent. Great oysters.

David H.

Yelp
Excellent food and very professional service. We were greeted promptly and the waiter was very attentive

Yelp
This restaurant has the nicest ambiance of any place I have been to in Shepherdstown. The service was attentive. Our meal started with cantaloupe and blue berries. Then I had the frittata with tomato, olives, goat cheese, and basil. The flavors were there, but I was surprised to find a quantity of spaghetti noodles cooked in. They added texture, but I would vote to exclude them. A piece of garlic butter toast came with the order, and provided all the starch the dish needed. My wife had the pappardelle pasta mushrooms, sage, fontina and cream. I tasted it, and it was beautifully executed. Overall, it was a wonderful breakfast. We'll be back to try the dinner menu, and I wouldn't be surprised if a fifth star is in their future.

Yelp
We had an 8 o'clock reservation and we were seated pretty quickly. Actually too quickly for our waiter who failed to materialize. The host eventually went and found him in the kitchen. During the entire evening we saw our waiter 4 times. The first two times were taking orders, (someone else delivered the drink and food) Two of those times were presenting the check and taking our credit card. We honestly would have had a second drink but no one bothered to ask! Despite really awful service the food was delicious. We had a lovely caprese salad. The cherry tomatoes were a really delicious add to it. For our entrees we enjoyed the duck and the hangar steak. The mashed potatoes served with the hangar steak were glorious. Our food was perfectly cooked. The steak was a true rare and the duck was medium rare. Absolutely perfect. All in all the food was good but did not compensate for the crummy service.

Peter T.

Yelp
Our favorite restaurant. Fabulous food, wonderful servers, cool bar, and a real feel of community. The pot roast is amazing, the broadest range of fresh oysters, and exquisite desserts

Yelp
Love this place ,, the lamb chops are to die for,,, the fig appetizer was great...... buuut there is a large loud contingent of alternate lifestyle men at the bar. Not great place to be as they are loud and rude. Stay away from the pasta dishes on the right of the menu. Absolutely flavorless. All of them. Damn shame. Quaint place overall very nice.
google avatar

Michelle R.

Yelp
Wow! So glad we decided to stop by for brunch. Luckily we were seated immediately and started to review the brunch menu and my mouth watered with all of the delicious options. I couldn't decide but then the waiter says there are some off the menu specials available, so that was the route we took. Everything was very good. I don't think you can make a poor decision here. I can't wait to get dinner in the near future. Plus they can sell you that delicious homemade bread. Reservations are recommended because you don't want to miss out.

Ian J.

Yelp
Fabulous! I was part of a table of five and we ordered totally different appetizers and entrees and everything was very good, especially the appetizers and the panna cotta dessert. The service was great too.

Yelp
So my wife and I went hear for our 15yr anniversary. The atmosphere in the place is nice and cozy and nicely decorated. So that was a good start. The waitress was very nice and attentive. We started off with a goat cheese appetizer that was very good. Then we had a couple of house salads which were nothing to write home about. The dressing was just ok. Then came our meals. My wife had the rack of lamb ($39) which was a large portion and was fairly tasty. It came with mashed potatoes and green beans. The mashed potatoes looked good but really didnt have much flavor to them. Green beans were ok. I had the 16oz Ribeye ($34) with rosemary potatoes and green beans. The Ribeye was just ok. I think I could have gotten a tastier one at Outback. It really didnt have any special seasoning or taste other then a plain steak. It wasnt even that tender like a ribeye should be. The potatoes were good but only got a few. The green beans again were just ok. For desert we shared a Lavendar Creme Brulee and a Cappuccino. The Creme brulee was very good and a pretty good size portion. The whole meal cost $125 without tip. I knew that I would be spending some money for a nice meal on my anniversary but for what it cost for a meal that wasnt much more then you can get at Outback it wasnt worth it. The appetizer and desert were the best. Oh not to forget to mention the good service from our waitress.

Yelp
I had such high hopes for this place, but I was a little let down. The service was great, don't get me wrong, but the food was not my cup of tea. My wife and I ordered the oyster stew and eggs Benedict. The oyster stew was not that good. Big chunks of potatoes and onions, and some parsley on the side. One of my oysters had a big piece of shell that was attached, which I didn't notice until I crunched into it. The eggs Benedict was decent. Not sure how this brunch stacks up with the surrounding area's food, but this place wasn't for me

Thomas J.

Yelp
If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. GREAT food! Excellent service. All around, excellent. I had the papadelle bollagnese. Sssoooo good! My wife had the pork millenaise. Just as good. And the cannoli for desert was perfect!

Yelp
The Press Room is in full swing and we are thrilled. We had reservations (a necessity) and our table was ready and waiting for us as we walked in the door. That, in itself, makes for a perfect beginning. Our waitperson Sarah was attentive and professional, making us feel welcome instantly. Appetizers: The Mussels were served in an aromatic broth with fresh bits of tomatoes and great flavor. The Oysters were all fresh and plump. The Blue Fish Pate creamy and flavorful. Entrees: the Veal Chop special was succulent. The Scallops delicate in flavor with a lovely risotto base. Our desserts: Tiramisu, Creme Brûlée, Zabaglione, Cheese cake. Each dessert was presented well and was delicious! The entire meal exceeded our expectations. An experience in a restaurant should meet all levels of enjoyment, and The Press Room delivered wholeheartedly. It is a good feeling to see one of the nicest restaurants in Shepherdstown in full swing after the pandemic. We will return many more times, for sure.

Mark W.

Yelp
Best place in the area!!! Oysters are always fresh, seasonal special are always fitting for the season. And crème brûlée is the best!!

Yelp
Fantastic restaurant in Sheperdstown. I recently dined here as part of a large group, and everything was lovely from the service to the food. Our waiter made us feel welcome and personalized the experience for us. He offered to give us each our own bill, which I know is more work for him. I appreciated the gesture. There is a wine list, but no where else could I find a list of beverages. They offer Coke products and have a full bar. Our group ordered a few apps and mains to share. For apps, we tried: The burrata - super creamy and delish. Only comes with a few small slices of toast so be sure to ask for more bread. The grilled calamari - divine. I loved this, especially with a bit of the pickled onions. The Tuscan shrimp - I actually didn't get a shrimp, but they were a nice size. The beans that were served with it had a great flavor though. The iceberg salad - I didn't have any of this, but it looked like a nice wedge salad. The kitchen was also nice enough to split our appetizers onto 2 plates to make sharing easier. For mains: pappardelle with mushrooms - I ordered this and it was by far everyone's favorite. The noodles were the perfect vehicle for the cream sauce, and the different mushrooms added nice flavor and texture. Steak with gorgonzola butter - nice taste, but our steak was fatty. The mashed potatoes were yummy! Scallops - amazing. Yummy taste, perfectly cooked. Balsamic salmon - another hit. Some commented the balsamic was a bit overpowering, but others loved it. Pasta carbonara - I personally think I make better carbonara at home, but others liked this one a lot. Pasta with clams - I didn't try this, but it looked and smelled great. For dessert, we each had a bite of the lemon cheesecake and apple crostada. Both were yummy. The cheesecake was not dense at all. It was almost like a light, whipped cheesecake with a hint of lemon. The crust was delish. The Apple crostada was served with ice cream and we all devoured it. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Sheperdstown looking for a nice dinner.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious. From the sparking rosé and fiddlehead ferns to the duck confit and excellent Cabernet, all was amazing. Great service, menu and food. Husband had fresh oysters and lamb. Who knew Shepherdstown had such great restaurants!

Yelp
We stayed in Shepherdstown after an afternoon excursion to Antietam. This was actually a few months back but we still talk about the Press Room! We loved dinner so much that we returned the next morning for brunch! We decided to pop in for dinner, it was packed and we wanted to sit at the bar so we went down the street for a cocktail and came back. We started with oysters which were delicious and fresh - a great variety. We then shared the grilled calamari. Grilled calamari is a personal favorite of mine. I'm Sicilan and during my travels to Italy, I tried this dish all over the place. The Press Room's version had lemon, olive oil and roasted red peppers. It may very well be the best version I've had. My boyfriend agreed. For entrees, he ordered the paella and I ordered a special which was monkfish steamed in parchment paper. Both of these were excellent! We shared a bottle of wine and finished off with a cheese plate. They served a bucherondin (a hard to find cheese) which was superb. They let us in on the secret that they get it supplied to them by the market down the street. We loved it so much that I returned in the morning to buy some to take home. For brunch, my guy is one of two people: simple two eggs and sausage or greek omelet. This time he went the greek omelet route and didn't leave a scrap on the plate. I went a different direction and ordered the Shirred Eggs Florentine. This was two eggs, Tasso ham, spinach, potatoes, all baked in a heavenly garlic cream sauce with grilled bread on the side to sop up all the delicious sauce. It was by far one of my best breakfast meals. I told my boyfriend it was worth the drive just to come back for this dish! Part of the appeal is the gracious staff and the bartender. He was helpful with recommendations not only for our meals but for places to go in town. The Capitals were playing that night so we had to make sure we found a bar with a TV afterwards! I miss this place and hope to visit again soon.

Yelp
A place not to be missed! Stopped in here for breakfast on the way home from a weekend in beautiful Shepherdstown. Sat in the bar area and had the pleasure of being tended to by Annie. She is AWESOME! The food .. oh me, oh my .. SUPERB! I was with a group and had the extreme pleasure of being able to sample multiple different items .. ALL DELISH! If you ever find yourself with the chance to visit this establishment .. TAKE IT! You will not regret it!

Yelp
I love getting there early and eating at the bar. Make a reservation for a table. The quality of the food is Devine!!!

Yelp
Stopped here because it was one of the few restaurants open on a Monday night. I ate at the bar and settled on a special haddock backed in cream sauce and topped with crushed saltines and cheese as side of green beans. YUM! I hope they add this to their normal menu. Good food presentation and casual yet refined atmosphere. Sorry no food porn, food was so good I couldn't stop to take a picture! Clientele were mix of locals and visitors. I'll be back.

Yelp
Healthy eating, don't eat pork - don't come here. Brunch choices heavy sauces...every fine dining needs to attune to those of us with fresh, healthy foods. Considers an omelet but no accommodations to not include the pork in it. Served bread...under baked, doughy, awful .

Peggy B.

Yelp
Wonderful restaurant near DC. Food is excellent and service is good. For dinner be sure to make a reservation as they are always busy. Near Harpers Ferry also. Pretty place.

Yelp
Press room is a bit pricier & more upscale than others on the same road. Cute lil place.  Service was great by Blake. I ordered an espresso and cannoli. Really decent cannoli cream especially for a rural place like this! Going back for a meal this week! Definitely a place to try out!

Yelp
I truly love this place. It's my favorite venue for a nice Sunday brunch with my grandmother or a special occasion with my husband. I've been here a few times for my birthday. I enjoy sitting at the bar. It's cozy and easy-going yet still elegant. The music is always pleasant and the staff is even more so. If you can't afford a pricey entree, the appetizers are just as delicious. It's beautiful inside and the kitchen is efficient. I've honestly never had a bad experience here. I will always be fond of the Press Room. Visit in the Spring for amazing specials utilizing fresh, local ramps!
