Preston's Chandlery

Stopped by while vacationing this weekend and there were two gentlemen behind the counter, one older and one younger. The young man was so courteous and knowledgeable, and spent quite awhile with me and answered my questions. The store would have gotten 5 stars but prices are higher than what I'm used to, but again the whole area is a tourist trap. If you're not counting pennies this is the place to go to.

Placed an order on November 3 for a belt. Sent repeated request for order status. I did get repliy from Andrew who immediately got on top of the issue with address and shipped out my belt. I have had Preston's Chandlery belt for about 20 years. I tried to replace with similar belts but without same satisfaction. After getting tired of seeing me wearing worn out belt, my wife found source of my old belt, Preston's Chandlery. I am giddy to receive my new belt...

They truly care for and cater to the local boating community. Not only are the staff friendly and courteous, they truly know what they're talking about and can point you in the right direction no matter what your boating questions are. They also sell a variety of high quality clothing and apparel appropriate for boating.

You're not going to find more pleasant or helpful people anywhere. They're life long sailors ,excellent riggers and the ships store is well stocked. Preston's is the perfect stop for the sailor/shopper couple.

Ordered and paid for two belts. Not hearing anything from them, I called 25 days later inquiring after order. Polite gentleman informed me that they were waiting on their supplier who they hoped to hear from in "a couple of weeks." I suppose I am inclined to believe that when you order something online and PAY for it--that non-availability of item incurrent inventory would have been disclosed at the outset and,or immediately updated.

Great store for any marine supplies. Sure you can go to west marine. But at Prestons the prices are fair and the service is unparelled. You'll never get the custom experience and advice you can get from this store. They can also order anything they don't have in stock and often have it as early as the following morning. I once asked a friend who lives in Florida how he would describe this store from when he used to visit Greenport. His response, "one of the most interesting stores in America." Being that the store is in the same location as it was when it opened in the 1800s, I think that is hard to dispute.

I was looking forward to visiting this chandlery. Nice selection of clothes and shoes but not as much sailing and boating goods as I’d hoped. I think online shopping has really put a dent in chandleries for specialty items.
