A peaceful, beautiful escape right in Pretoria.
The Pretoria National Botanical Gardens is honestly one of the most grounding places I’ve visited in a long time. It’s tranquil, spacious, and incredibly well-kept — the kind of place where you can actually take your shoes off and walk barefoot on the grass without worrying about glass or anything unsafe.
There are so many little corners to explore, whether you want a quiet spot under the trees, open lawns for a family picnic, or one of the shaded areas to simply unwind. My kids loved it; the trails kept them entertained, and the waterfall has such a calming presence that you can hear it long before you see it.
We spotted a variety of birds, dassies, and other small wildlife as we walked, which was such a lovely surprise. The gardens feel safe and welcoming, and it’s clear that a lot of care goes into maintaining the grounds.
There’s also a restaurant, plenty of clean restrooms, and drinking water available throughout the gardens — small things, but they make a big difference when you’re spending a few hours outdoors.
It’s peaceful, beautiful, and the perfect place to reconnect with nature. Whether you’re going with family, on your own, or just need a mental reset, this is one of Pretoria’s gems. Highly recommended.
