Primate of Esztergom Cellar and Restaurant

We had a delicious early dinner here that was easily one of the best we had on our trip to Hungary. The cellar is big and imposing but cozy at the same tIme and the staff makes you feel welcomed here. The star of the show was the duck leg, one of the best we had this trip (the desserts are also extremely tasty).

Chic dungeon-esque restaurant underneath the Esztergom Basilica. Some dungeony / castley vibes to go with some tasty foods. 🥦 good vegetarian / vegan options. The vegan beef (beet) tartar was excellent! 🍄‍🟫 the seasonal vegetables were simple but delicious 🍷 great selection of wines 🖼️ there’s also a small wine museum linked with it

Nice place, the interior looks great. Staff is nice and friendly. Service was a bit slow (even though there weren’t many people). The food was delicious but small portions.

So you are here because of the Basilica of Esztergom which is a phenomenal church. But it just ain’t worth it with this restaurant. Food is just above average and service is regrettable. SKIP.

Fantastic experience in an elegant restaurant. The atmosphere is absolutely exquisite. Feels like I am I the medieval place. It is such a good choice to visit this restaurant when you visit Basilica. Food is delicious! I enjoyed lemonade too. Wonderful place for a date or a big group feast. I come here every time when I visit Esztergom.

Service was a bit slot and indifferent, but boy was the food amazing! Loved the setting, its right underneath the basilica - probably right next to the crypt. Gorgeous setting. We went for lunch but i bet it looks even cooler during dinner service. Amazing food with very good portion sizes - we had pork shoulder and pork tenderloin. Lots of flavour, lots of veggies, lots of really interesting things on our plate. Could not fault it. We saw that they charge non customer for the use of their toilets, which felt a bit strange - but we also saw that all public toilets around the basilica were closed, so if the restaurant gets over used because of it, then fair enough.
