Prime Gelato

Always love coming to Prime for a sweet treat! The gelato options are constantly changing which is nice. The staff are always so friendly and give excellent recommendations. They open the garage door windows and the cross breeze is so lovely. The high top seats facing the waterfront are the best seats in the house. What a hidden gem we have!

They have vegan / dairy free options!! Didn’t love the pumpkin one but the dark chocolate truffle was so good and so was the raspberry lemonade! Staff was very nice and efficient, it was nice to get to sit outside their place too and enjoy the sun before it gets cold! Thanks for offering dairy free options and not just a fruity one! Much appreciated!

This place is great and I love when they have pints but they are sold out so often! Still, their gelato is awesome and the flavours are always so unique

This was our first time trying Prime gelato ice-creams. We had Coconut Lime which was dairy free and vegan. As fresh the name sounds, it tasted as fresh as well. I personally enjoyed the flavors together. The other one we ordered was Bourbon Whiskey Vanilla Bean for my husband but he enjoyed the Coconut Lime more. Overall a good experience. Personally I feel the single serve cups are an amazing idea but the packaging has a very small spoon in it. From the sustainability perspective, I would have loved if the plastic spoon was given to us on request rather than packed in a cup from the manufacturer. Quality and quantity of the ice-creams are 👍 worth the price!

This is the only place I’ve ever tried gelato. So. As of right now this is the best gelato in the world! They have a bunch of delicious flavors like brown butter pecan, peanut butter fudge, and two of my favorites, double chocolate mint and snickers. Dairy free options are also available. There are no artificial colors or flavors. The sorbet they have is dairy free and apparently almost always fat free. I was able to walk in for the first time since the pandemic has started winding down. The service is friendly, and the product they sell may be more addictive than cigarettes in my opinion. I just hope you have more restraint than I do reader. Everything in moderation right? I could be a pint a day eater if I wasn't capable of feeling shame.

Really good gelato! I loved the double chocolate mint flavor. While I’ve heard they rotate the flavors, I kind of hope that flavor sticks around.

Usually I love going here and other times I’ve had great experiences. However I was pretty disappointed yesterday when they only had 1 flavour available for everyone and no option to choose from.

They had dairy free options which was necessary for our group. Glad that we stopped and gave them our business. Great flavors and high quality gelato.

The gelato is delicious. Definitely go get some and try all the awesome flavors. The staff is happy to let you try all the flavors until you decide on the perfect combo.

I've ordered both cups and pints at Prime Gelato and must say the pints are much better value for your money! These are my favourite flavours that I'd recommend: 1) pumpkin spiced cheesecake - seasonal (this was an employee recommendation, and I was initially sceptical but it is SO unique and SO GOOD) 2) pistachio - so rich, creamy, and nutty 3) cold brew (milk based version) - great coffee flavour 4) froot loops - so addictive and unique 5) snickers - even better than the chocolate bar Other flavours that I've tried but didn't make my top 5: very chocolate, banana, strawberry, hazelnut chocolate, peanut butter chocolate pretzel, dairy-free London Fog, coffee baileys I love how Prime Gelato has seasonal flavours and there's always something new to try! Would recommend checking them out if you're craving a cold treat and are thinking of supporting a local business ;)

Went to Prime Gelato last night. I love how you can get free samples of the gelato. Gelato is very tasty. I got a cup of Oreo Cheesecake and Nutella gelato. It was delicious. The gelato was dripping everywhere, though. But still, very good. They even have gelato for dogs! I haven't seen anybody ordering it for their dog, though. Overall, wonderful place to go if you're looking for a cold snack. Would highly recommend.

This cute ice cream/gelato shop was recommended by the locals and I see why! When in Thunder Bay grab some Prime Gelato! All of their flavours are made with local ingredient and some of the freshest fruit. The staff was very friendly and welcoming to those stopping by in the city. They offer taste testers because it's really hard to choose just one flavour. You can even grab a pint and take it home! I loved the Roasted strawberry flavour as you really got to taste the chunks of strawberry. It was rich in flavour and not too sweet. I'd come back on my next stop in Thunder Bay!

Good gelato, flavours are decent, portion is pretty big, you gotta eat fast or start dripping, nice location to sit out down by the street.

Blueberry cheesecake Gelato was fantastic! Recommend highly. Husband had chocolate equally good.

This was a very cute little gelato shop with very friendly and knowledgeable staff. The gelato was definitely tasty, but definitely pricey...if the prices would have been more reasonable this would have been a 5 star review.

There are many of us so we got many flavors: Nutella - very nice, great hazelnut flavor, would be particularly great paired with brownie or coldbrew in my opinion Brownie - just fine, nothing to write home about but still quite tasty for a chocolate flavor St. Paul Coldbrew - needs a more distinct coffee flavor but also a generally tasty flavor, very good when paired with other things to add a bit of bitterness to the other flavors Orange peach - very light and refreshing, not too sweet which was nice, quite good for a sorbet as well! Peach crumble - yummy, perfectly good gelato, but also not too flavorful on either the peach or crumble Snickers - tastes exactly like a frozen Snickers, the child of the group was very happy Additionally, the vibe was very cute with big open windows and a colorful inside decor. I'm sure it's less fun when it's cold but for this warm day it was perfect! Lastly, they do a lot of work with local farms and suppliers and I always appreciate that. Check out their blueberry flavors for their work with a local indigenous group as well!

I had the maple whisky. It was really good. The consistency was just perfect as gelato should be! The staff was very friendly and helpful :)!

I heard a lot about this place when I came back to Thunder Bay. In my opinion, it was so hyped by friends because it's pretty unique to the city and is riding the wave of new restaurants, bars and boutiques that have opened in the past few years which have been so lacking in Thunder Bay for so long. Prime is a nice place. It's bright and has character--the cracked tile floor, which isn't the same floor as the previous business that occupied the space, so maybe it was original from when the building was Birk's Jewellers. The decor is "rustic" as I guess the term is, but modern. There are wood details and the garage door-style windows are nice way to bring in fresh air and provide an outdoor feeling. The gelato and sorbets are kept in more traditional ice cream coolers (albeit, a nicer design) with solid lids, so you can't see the flavours. I would prefer to see my options rather than only read them. I also feel that seeing them would make me less likely to ask for samples. Too many people asking for samples can slow down service! Prime is committed to sustainability, so I really like their biodegradable containers and their paper sampling "spoons" are fantastic. The mini plastic samplers are so wasteful so I like the alternative at Prime. I like that Prime uses local products and everything is made from scratch. Unfortunately I think they fall a little short on flavour and blending consistency. The day I went, I tried "basil" and "raspberry mojito." The basil flavour was creamy but the basil flavour was quite mild. By the time I got to the raspberry mojito flavour, it had turned into the consistency of a Slurpee (and no, I wasn't a slow eater). The other flavours in their limited selection were alright but nothing I was anxious yo try. All-in-all this place was OK. The service was pleasant/friendly and accommodating to my requests to try three flavours! I've had better gelato but I like that this place is unique for the city and I hope it's successful. I do wonder what they will do in be winter though. I can't imagine too many people going out fir gelato when it's -30°C outside.

What a great place to stop in and pick up a frozen treat! They offer a great variety of flavors, including vegan. They encourage you to try a sample, and the flavors are delicious combinations like rosemary grapefruit or Mexican chocolate. The gelato is creamy and flavorful, and well priced for the serving size. Highly recommend you check this place out!

On a recent visit to Thunder Bay I went to Prime Gelato 2 or 3 times over 4 days. A holiday weekend, so the owner was serving and was super nice. She made me a terrific cup of coffee and gave me local recommendations. Staff are generous with the tastings, the dairy free gelato options were delicious, and though the cups look small they really load them up and it is plenty. We got the dairy based cookie dough one too, to us it needed some chocolate in there only because that is what we're used to. Nicely designed place too.

Wow!! Was the gelato ever amazing! I took home a pint of salted peanut butter and we all enjoyed each spoonful. As I'm writing this, I'm drooling! I don't live in Thunder Bay, but you can be sure that I will be back on our next visit.

This was one of the highlights of our trip to Seattle. This ice cream shop contains some of the most unique flavors I have seen, and you will always come away with a great choice. I would recommend getting your favorite ice cream choice in a brioche bun.

After waiting in line we were disappointed to learn that they had already ran out of a few of their most popular flavours. During the summer you would think they would have additional inventory for how busy it is. We tried the banana and nutella gelato, both were creamy, the right consistency, and quite nice in flavour. There is very limited seating, although they do have a large open window area which is perfect for people watching. Would be amazing if they were located somewhere with an outdoor patio, or just more seating in general. The service was ok. Some staff were friendly, while others appeared that they didn't want to be there. We would return, but would try to go early to get first pick on the flavours.

The best gelato! I went twice in a week. There are many different flavour options, and they are more than happy to give you samples. You can tell the gelatos and sorbets are made with quality ingredients, and are not too sweet. The location is perfect too - just a short walk from the marina!

The best gelato I've ever had! Quality ingredients and personable staff. I definitely need to keep coming back and trying all the wonderful flavour combinations.
