Some good choices of true imported products from Italy. The staff is usually very abrasive. I visited the store multiple times and the lady behind the counter always look like she give you a favor to check out your order.

Not enough nice things to say about Monica and the lengths she goes to - to provide the community with authentic Italian cooking, food, supplies and gifts. I buy her Valentine’s Day raviolis every year and her Woman’s Day event is always a blessed experience. Thank you Sacred Sister -Piacere🙏🏾🌹

If you love Italy and all its delicacies ,cheese, meats, homemade pasta and everything that goes with it you’ll love this place and you’ll love the owner, Monica is a wonderful owner and a great great person. I’ve known her for 40 years and she’s always been outstanding. A little bit of Italy right here in downtown Birmingham. There’s no other store like it.

Met friends for a Tuesday tasting. Everything was delicious! Eggplant, truffle cheese, homemade pasta... Beautiful assortment of Italian pottery. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff.

We love buying pasta and meatballs here! The cheese selection looks nice too! The bucatini and basil linguini were both delicious!

The pasta is so fresh. Monica, the owner, has the best pairings and recommendations. Tasting Tuesdays are something you shouldn't miss if you're in the area!

Today in the middle of packaging my order, the woman behind the counter stopped working on my order to take and package an order from another customer who had just walked through the door. I didn’t stay to finish my order as she made it clear my business wasn’t important. I wasn’t that bothered. They left the shop door open and there were several flies inside.

Yelp
Very knowledgeable owner and was a pleasure speaking with. Quality Italian fare. Definitely check them out!

Yelp
My go to spot for anything Italian! This place is amazing; from hand made pastas, to sandwiches, to premade meals, you name it. Monica runs an amazing place. It's not uncommon to be offered some bread, meat, cheese or wine while you are shopping. Their pasta and meatballs are some of the best I've ever had. And Monica will give you recipes, cooking tips, you name it. If you are in the area, stop by and grab some meatballs, lasagna or some bucatini. The picture is my go to recipe from there: bucatini with robusto sauce and pork and beef meatballs.

Yelp
We had the cauliflower ravioli today. It was wonderful. We served it with a simple butter and sage sauce. Very good!

Yelp
Ok the cutest little hidden gem ever!!! Does not look like much from the outside but it's beautiful on the inside. Lots of kitchenware, decor, a deli, and lots of italian groceries. We stopped in to get some charcuterie items - prosciutto, salami, cheese and crackers. The meat was sliced fresh and the service was very friendly.

Yelp
I was there this past Sunday for the 4th time. As per usual, they were out of the ravioli advertised out front. While waiting to order, I witnessed one of the owners assistants excuse herself to the rear of the building in order to make a customers Tonno sandwich. Apparently the owner is allergic to tuna and had a bit of a fit that her help would even dare to open a can of fish near her. I watched as this girl went to the rear doorway, opened a folding chair, knelt down like a catcher, opened a jar (more likely a can) of tuna and finished a customers sandwich in what I'm guessing was NOT an approved food preparation area. GROSS As if the stale ciabatta they serve sandwiches on wasn't enough, they actually make your food on portable furniture that probably isn't sanitized! Neat-o! Speaking of sandwiches, if you're naive enough to believe that their sandwiches are anything more than stale bread with run of the mill Italian cold cuts, than you're also dumb enough to pay $12 for one. There is nothing special about them. Trying to stay positive I decided to order one of their lasagne for dinner as the woman in front of me purchased the final 2#'s of rigatoni they had. I was stuck trying to decide what to eat knowing that I may receive something made on a dusty table in the rear of the store. I hope the chick that bough that rigatoni and sauce had better luck than I did with the lasagne. Because what they sold me was garbage. Look, you want to act like this joint is somehow genuine Italian because it's quaint and located in a bougie area, that's cool. But you're dumb. Most of what they offer is easily acquired stuff without the 200% mark up. Educate yourself and then shop elsewhere.

Yelp
Called to order sandwiches. Woman on the phone rudely said they haven't sold sandwiches since before Covid. Meanwhile, they definitely have and also please take the sandwich menu off your website if you haven't sold them for 4 years??

Yelp
A week after coming back from Italy, I was just craving authentic amatriciana, but couldn't find a single restaurant around me that made it the right way: with guanciale (NOT pancetta). I decided to make it on my own, and I ran into another issue: almost none of the Italian markets around here carry guanciale! Finally, Yelp led me to Primi Piatti, which is small but extremely well-stocked. Not only did they have my coveted guanciale, but they also had some amazing fresh bucatini, pecorino romano, and a variety of tomato sauces. Their ingredients were exactly what I needed to make some delicious, authentic bucatini all'Amatriciana. Only reason I don't give it 5 stars is they accidentally (I hope) overcharged me for the guanciale. Originally, I asked about the price for a whole piece they had, but eventually I asked them to only cut up 2/3 of that piece for me. When I got home, I noticed on the receipt that they charged me for the full piece. Disappointing, but probably an honest mistake.

Yelp
Based on the website information, I dropped in to order a few sandwiches. I actually called just before I left home to order ahead. No one answered the phone, so I assumed they must be busy. To my surprise, when I arrived at the store it was empty (zero customers). After inquiring if I could order a few sandwiches, I was informed that they have NOT been serving sandwiches for SIX MONTHS. It would be nice if the store could update their website/menu so people looking for sandwiches can go elsewhere.

Yelp
Sarah & the rest of the girls are very helpful. Got some good stuff to consume for dinner (soup & meatballs)

Amy M.

Yelp
Awesome spot for finding that perfect food or serving dish. They are welcoming and helpful. Monica also does amazing cooking classes!

Lisa S.

Yelp
Had a craving for a salami sandwich. I had no idea that Promo Piatti added magic to their sandwiches. Amazing!

Nancy N.

Yelp
What a Birmingham treasure! Ordered Christmas Eve lasagna and antipasto platter and they were outstanding!!! So many dinner compliments! Monica and her staff were so friendly and helpful! I would highly recommend any of the pastas and the chicken meatballs are to die for!

Mercedes W.

Yelp
The fresh made daily lasagna was the best I ever had you just bring it home and pop in the oven to heat it up Made cooking dinner tonight so easy I'll definitely be back to try some fresh pasta & sauce Everything in there store is fresh made or imported from Italy

Yelp
Once I tasted her food I asked her to marry me. Her food is beautiful and so is she. I'd love to eat there every day

Yelp
Fantastic little store, right across from Salvatore Scallopini. The first thing that greeted us open entering was the wonderful smell of "pizzelle", traditional Italian waffle cookies that were being baked right in the front of the store. That's the feel of the place - a cozy place that's family owned and operated. Throughout the shelves you'll find a cool selection of imported Italian coffees, chocolates, desserts, household nick-nacks, and other interesting items. But the heart of the store is the deli area. An assortment of pastas made fresh daily, and an incredible array of meats and cheeses that they'll slice for you to-order. We picked up a mushroom pasta and the silkiest prosciutto I've had in years. UPDATE: Someone we recommended this place to DIDN'T have quite as good an experience with their prosciutto, but I'll chalk that up to an aberration. One thing to note: don't expect to be in and out within a couple minutes. The owners will make conversation with you while they slice the meats, they'll get to know what you'll be making with their products, they'll give suggestions, and they'll take their time to make sure they get it all right. It definitely adds to the charm, but it'll also add to the line at the counter during the busier times of day. 4.5 stars would be perfect, but because of the wait times, high prices (it's Birmingham, after all) and slight inconsistency, I'll have to go with 4.

Yelp
Wow! What a cool place! We went here after getting back from Rome, and let me tell you - it was just like being back in Italy! They have all the freshest ingredients - tons of cheeses, meats, and even fresh made pasta. They also have everything ranging from different olive oils to canned San Marzano tomatoes (the best!) and adorable china/kitchen trinkets. The owner chatted with us for a bit and gave us some advice about the dish we were making (Buccatini Amatriciana) and her input really helped us out. It tasted just like what we'd had in Rome! I am super impressed and I can't wait to go back. I took off 1 star for price - I totally understand why it's a little more expensive, and I am of the mindset "you get what you pay for" so I don't mind paying BUT it makes me sad because I spent $40 on supplies for one meal - we could have easily gone out for that price! I'll definitely shop here for those special meals I'm cooking where only authentic Italian ingredients will do :)

Yelp
amazing little place across from Booth park. I've probably driven past here 1000 times and never noticed it. thanks yelp! recent search for fresh pasta brought me to their doorstep amazing fresh pasta and great selection of meats and cheese. have been back 3 times in the last week for more pasta however I should mention the cannoli. I should start by saying, I do not like cannoli. That's probably because I've never had a great one. always soggy, flavourless shell and lifeless filling the ones here BLEW MY MIND. made to order. the shell was crispy and so flavorful. the filling was light, and perfectly sweet. it was the best canoli of my life. my wife and I bought two and we live 5 minutes from this store, and both were long gone well before we got home. this place is awesome.

Yelp
Hours: Mon Closed Tue-Fri 10am-7pm Sat 10am-5pm Sun 9am-2pm (same time as B-ham Farmer's Market) I love this little place! The staff is very honest and helpful. They have many options of dry pastas like dairy-free, egg-free, gluten-free, etc as well as imported sauces. What I really go there for is their fresh pastas and sauces. Their fresh pastas are addictive and cook up great at home. They have different flavors of homemade pasta (traditional egg... basil... mushroom...) to keep things exciting and their sauces are so fresh and satisfying. It makes me smile big time. The store has other items too, like imported oils, vinegars, jarred items and candies. I have not had their pizzelle or sandwiches, but I am sure they wouldn't disappoint. I highly recommend stopping in!

Yelp
This place is great! A little pricey but most of the items are imported. The deli counter is amazing. Awesome deli meats sliced to order. Also a wonderful fresh pasta selection that includes tortellini, ravioli, ect. Wonderful bread available for purchase as well.

Yelp
A very good Italian restaurant. They are very rare in the Detrot area. Some suggestions for the menu: clams possilppo and veal piziola.

Yelp
It was a beautiful day out so I took my 9 month old out for a stroll in the neighborhood. We recently relocated to Birmingham from Los Angeles. We made our way to Booth Park where we enjoyed an afternoon swing ride. We crossed Old Woodward and decided to stop into Primi Piatti. The owner was very helpful and generous. She offered my son a Plasmon Biscotti which he thoroughly enjoyed. She offered samples of the cheeses and a few cookies. I took my time looking at her shelves. I am impressed by her selection. It is very apparent she curated a unique array of imported goods. I grabbed a few sweet treats and headed to the pasta counter. I ordered the lasagna, fresh rigatoni and her marinara. I had bought the individual sized meat lasagna, enough for two. I heated the lasagna in the oven and made a simple arugula salad with sliced radish, shaved Parmesan, and dressed with a Meyer lemon vinaigrette. I took my first bite of the lasagna and was pleasantly surprised on how light it is. Bite after bite I kept relishing at how light, yet refined the lasagna is. The pasta is so delicate, the meat is tender and flavorful but does not overpower the ricotta or the flavor of the pasta itself. It is very well balanced. Before I knew it my plate was empty and I swore I could have ate an entire pan of it. I bet I could, really its that good. My husband loves it too! I was intending to give my son a taste but there wasn't any left. We will be back and we will be purchasing the larger size. We are lucky to have this place in walking distance.

Nancy O.

Yelp
You have never had pasta this good. They do an amazing job! Do yourself a favor and try their homemade pasta! The cheeses are delicious and there's always unique Italian groceries.

Jonathan S.

Yelp
This is a little Italian market in the north end of downtown Birmingham. The staff here is incredible. The owners are always there and willing to help. They have a lot of Italian import foods, but the real draw here is the deli case that has an amazing array of Italian cheeses and meats. Ask about the truffle cheese and the blue cheese soaked in prosecco. They also have homemade pastas and meatballs to go. We stop by every time we go to the farmers market.

Casey A.

Yelp
Best Italian Market in Michigan. All Italian imported groceries, cured meats, Italian cheeses, sandwiches and home-made pasta!! They make fresh ravioli too!!

Esha M.

Yelp
This place is super cute with the nicest owners! I went there for the first time this past weekend and bought an assortment of pastas, sauces, and cheeses that were very fresh and healthy. Monica, the owner, is one of the nicest store owners that I have ever met. My son, who is about the start his terrible twos, got loose in the store for a second and ofcourse went for the nearest breakable item and thew it. I insisted on paying for it but Monica would not charge me for it. She kept saying that accidents happen and she was not going to charge me. It was that gesture that will keep me going back to this store for all my italian food needs from now on!

Stephanie R.

Yelp
How lucky we are to have this incredible market in Birmingham !! Monica makes the most delectable pastas daily - her Sunday raviolis are amazing. Her little shop is filled with jars of stuffed olives, artichokes, sauces and a variety of Italian items - all first rate. The prosciutto is amazingly delicious and there are lots of other italian meats in the case. Do not miss a visit to this wonderful market. Stephanie R.

Yelp
I'm a pretty picky eater--so take my word for it when I say the sandwiches here are amazing. They're noticeably fresher and more flavorful than those at other places nearby. They have a great selection of Italian groceries too--it took all my willpower not to spend the entire contents of my wallet on chocolates and pasta. Try the Perugina Baci--chocolate hazelnut truffles with little fortunes wrapped inside. Such a treat! Great place to shop for gifts, too!

Mark R.

Yelp
Just a horrible experience at this pace. My daughter and I went in to get a sandwich for her, during the Birmingham Farmers Market. Salami with a piece of provolone on an Italian roll. The sandwich was nothing special, I got to the counter the price was 12 bucks. To say this was overpriced is an overstatement, not even in New York, Chicago would the price be this high. Take a place like Ventimiglia located in Sterling Heights. The best Italian market in MI, a 8 inch sandwich on a soft roll is 7 bucks. THIS PLACE SUCKS I WILL ADVISE ALL BY BIRMINGHAM FRIENDS NOT TO EVER GO TO THAT PLACE!!!!!

Krista W.

Yelp
What an incredible addition to downtown Birmingham. The owner and her family (that work along side her in the shop) are just lovely. It was like stepping into Italia - standing at the counter sampling cheeses and meats, beautiful homemade pastas (the beet pasta was the most incredible color), so many yummy things! You can order sandwiches to eat in the park or take home a basket full of treats - either way you must stop in. You cannot miss it - look for the scooter outside the door, the owner rides it in every morning. :)

Yelp
When I am not doctoring patients sore backs, my second passion is cooking. My favorite food to prepare is Italian.Primi Piatti has many products I cannot get elsewhere. The home-made pastas save me so much time especially when making raviolis.Great dishes to serve your food are there as is unique kitchen tools. If your there long enough try the sandwiches, you will go back again and again.

Megan M.

Yelp
I could have spent all day in your beautiful store. You have so many unique and delicious products. I am looking forward to catching a Tasting Tuesday soon!

Shelley Z.

Yelp
Primi Piatti is amazing! So many great cheeses and meats, and the handmade pastas are incredible. The best place to go for authentic italian foods. The owner and the staff are so passionate about the market, and you can taste it! This is a must-see place in metro Detroit!

Bonnie M.

Yelp
Threw it away!! Our office ordered a dozen different sandwiches from here. Two of our sandwiches had a few pieces of lunch meat, a small amount of one of the three cheeses it listed and a couple strips of red pepper. All of our sandwiches were on stale bread. No one was impressed. My friend and I threw it away. Terrible.
