This is your neighborhood hoagie shop. This is your game day cure! They take care of everyone, and they do it with smiles. Primo crew, Steve Ty!

I called in to place an order and the guy didn't have any sort of patience what so ever. I wasn't a difficult. Simply gave him my order. Nothing out of the ordinary( where it would make his job difficult ) and he was so nasty and rude and hung up on me. Maybe he's having a bad day but I didn't deserve that level of customer service

Harrison Round (Sonny)

Google
I’m from New Jersey and worked at an Italian deli all throughout high school, so I don’t dish out 5 stars lightly. In the case of Primo’s I was blown away by the service, but more importantly the sandwich. The meat was sliced thin and layered in a pattern to create fluff, the combo of spices and flavor were just right, end the bread was out of this world fresh (with sesames too!) 10/10 recommend to anyone looking for a great HOAGIE- or sandwich or sub or just delicatessens!

Google
I ordered a cheesesteak from this place that was less than par. It had zero taste! The steak was so bland. It was like eating a lump of meat with cheese on it.

Google
Love Primos my #1 Hoagie spot. Today is National Hoagie Day (NHD) $7 hoagies ALL Day at least that's what I thought. Welp I go to lunch between 2P & 3P I called 2043 Chestnut Street Store and was told "we are no longer taking pick up orders" REALLY!!! What a disappointment. DO BETTER IF YOU HAVE A PROMOTION YOU SHOULD HONOR IT ALL DAY!!!

Doctor Lankford

Google
Food is great, the bread is awesome. Orders often have minor mistakes, but not a big deal - it's a high volume place.

Dominik Rhode

Google
Man they were great! Fluffy, saucy, with lots of meat and vegetables. The only downside is that there are no places to sit anywhere.

Michael Fortney

Google
The bread is to die for. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Excellent customer service and excellent food as i kept coming back to this location (20th and Chestnut st, Phila) Their cheesesteaks are the best due to their beef and bread. A marriage made in heaven!

Yelp
Got my lunch from here when I went into the office. Good thing was that I placed my order online - super easy to do and it tells you what time the order will be ready and voila when I got there it was ready for my pick up! My friend hadn't placed his order online so we ordered at the store. It's so popular that it was super busy. I got the primo size ham with American cheese, mayo, and sweet pickles yummmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Yelp
PrimoHoagies is a chain that offers an extensive menu of various types of hoagies - Italian Classics, Diablos, Deli Classics, Schwartzies, Philly Cheesesteaks, Primo Cutlets, Tuna Hoagies, Meatballs, Primo Specialties, and even Meatless options. I ordered the Crusher, which was jam-packed and stacked with cracked pepper turkey slices, cooper sharp American cheese, and pepper shooters - I didn't know that pepper shooters contained pork, so I just picked those out. I also added extra onions, pickles, salt and pepper, and mayo, as part of their free toppings/sauces/spreads. The sandwiches are pretty hefty, and even their small-sized one can be easily shared between two people (or more!). The bread that they use can be plain or seeded, and if you don't request the specifics, you'll get either one. The sammies were definitely messy, and you will require extra napkins or eat it with gloves! Staff here were very friendly and welcoming! There's also some seating inside, but most seem to get theirs to go. There's a variety of Herr's chips and Pepsi products. +stacked sammies +friendly service +limited seating inside

Yelp
We went here for a lazy night dinner since it was just down the street from where we were staying. We got takeout. We got the prosciutto (suprimo), the meatball, and the roast beef schwartzie. The prosciutto was pretty boring and bland, the schwartzie was yummy and flavorful, and the meatball was very good. Overall very medium sandwiches. Nothing crazy special despite all the signs in the window that they were voted best hoagie by many sources. Better to skip unless you are looking for a quick sandwich with no fuss.

Yelp
As I hope you can see in my photo, the receipt says Turkey. As you can also see in the photo, there are italian meats on my hoagie and no turkey. This is an Italian hoagie not a turkey hoagie. I had to throw it away. Too far to take it back, and I can't eat it! This is partly my fault because I didn't check my order before I left. I always check, and something is usually wrong with my order. I was in a hurry, and it cost me. The store was fairly empty, didn't appear that they were rushing to get orders done. Pretty frustrated.

Yelp
Audiablo (4/5) - Not spicy despite name Old Fashioned Meatball (5/5) - got it on sesame roll which was toasted perfectly

Yelp
You make a complaint and you get an email back from Victoria D. telling you to go to their website to post a review . I did that four days ago. Nothing is going to change and nothing is going to get better. Terrible customer service. Avoid Primos!
google avatar

Armando T.

Yelp
Solid food and great staff. I'll come here anytime I come to Philly. Make sure to get the Philly cheese steak
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered the Italian in primo size and got a Pepsi that totaled to $17. Sandwich itself was huge and very very filling. It was a bit hard to eat and all the ingredients on top were falling out and the bread was a bit too hard to chew, but the meat inside was delicious. I tried some of my friend's old fashioned meatball sandwich and chicken Diablo and both of those were pretty good too.

Yelp
When Primo's is good, it's by far the best chain hoagie out there. This Primo's is good.

Yelp
Update: Sep 2022 - Primos on Chestnut just reopened under new management and unfortunately it's just not the same. Not nearly as good and not nearly as much value. 1. Taste: I've been consistently eating at Primos since I moved into the area over a year and half ago. It was the spot! Not the nicest looking place, but you know those are the types of places that hit the hardest. Fast forward to summer of 2022, old team went on a "vacation", except this vacation was over 2 months long. I was wondering if it was like Dad going to get cigarettes and milk from the store. Only to be never be seen again. However, they reopened and taste is just not the same. The old picture I had posted was from the previous management. It was stacked! Now it's like maybe 2/3 the meat, and not nearly as flavorful as before. 2. Value: Economy is in the tank. Inflation is coming down but still absurdly high. Everyone is getting smacked. I get it. However, when I moved to Philly in March of 2021, Primo sized hoagie was right under $10 including tax. By Spring of 2022, we had made our way up to around nearly $11 and change including tax. Under the new team, prices start at a WHOPPING $14 NOT INCLUDING TAX. UNBELIEVABLE. At $15 a sandwich now I'm just going to order from a restaurant.

Yelp
Primo has some of the best hoagies in the city!! For a chain I'm always shocked at how delicious their sandwiches are. Highly recommend getting a large sub to share when it's game day!
google avatar

Yelp
Ouch 15$ Must still be paying for their renovations They didn't know the difference between pepper jack and got pepper cheese

Karen H.

Yelp
The prices keep going up, and the quality keeps going down. I've gone to the one on Welsh Road (the worst), Street Road and Glenside. The one who answers the phone at the Welsh Road store is RUDE. No matter when I call, she says, "There'll be a half hour wait." I can understand on game day, but on a Monday at 2 p.m.?????? The roll was stale and the meat had a funny taste. No more hoagies from Primo's.
google avatar

Yelp
Had Philly Cheesesteak at Plesant Hills, PA location. Disappointed, roll was plain, no sesame seed. Stek was pre cooked and reheated in a convection oven, meat was overdone and dried out.

Jo O.

Yelp
Just bought hoagies fir first time there!! Very dissatisfied, this us from port richmond store. Soggy tomatoes, had my sides condiment sides, pickles, hots, didnt have enough for sand, where the cheese?? Not going there anymore, could get a better hoagie at shoprite

Yelp
Horrible experience with PrimoHoagies today. We placed an order and only got half of it. My wife's food never came. When I called to make a complaint with the store a young lady (Andrea) closing the store (covering for Drew the Manager who initial said he would take care of the issue but left for the day) hung up on me repeatedly and refused to take my calls (hung up on me every time I called back nearly 50 times -See Below) and thus we got any resolve. This has to be the absolute worse case of customer service I have ever experienced. This took place at the Bethlehem, PA store today 8/4. Be careful ordering from this place. I know I never will again. Below are all the calls I made to the store and her (Andrea) hanging up on me

Yelp
I frequented Primo's for their Turkey Diablo sandwich between 2004 and 2009 when I was spending a fair amount of time in Philly for work. I'd always grab a sandwich for the plane ride home and another one for later. So when I was planning a Super Bowl party and the Eagles were in the game, I wanted to grab some hoagies for the party. For $50 I got a large Turkey Diablo and a small Italian to bring on the train back to NYC for the party. I was immediately disappointed to see the sign about "new ownership" but was hopeful that the recipe had not changed. Unfortunately, it was not nearly as good as I remembered. The diablo just didn't have the punch that it used to. The italian, which I got for variety, was forgettable. Not one person at the party complimented the hoagies, yet they all complimented the BBQ that I'd picked up since the Chiefs were in the game too. Pretty disappointed overall. The hoagies weren't bad, they were just okay and definitely pricey for the amount that I got for $50.

Yelp
I went by over the summer and it looked they were closed for the month due to vacation but apparently they were switching to a franchise and no more Mike on site to make sure quality was top notch. I decided to go back and give it a shot. I am pleased to say the bread was on point with a nice firm crusty bite and taste. Rest of sandwich was top notch. Guy who made my sandwich said I'd be satisfied and for once, someone was right
google avatar

Lillian M.

Yelp
Was not impressed, too much meat and some say that's good but it's not always, also meat temp was so cold there was very little flavor, and finally, roll was doughy and chewy

Jenn M.

Yelp
Just ordered food here. Watching the person at the cashier cough into her gloved hands repeatedly, touch the cash register, drink out of her cup, put her hand all over the top of my sealed bottle of soda, wrap sandwiches, put her hands on the food on the line. Then she ignored a fellow worker who told her three times to change her gloves (after she did everything listed above, probably because he noticed me watching her hands). Fully staffed, not a super busy time, no excuses. Gross, gross, gross. Never coming back.
google avatar

Aparna M.

Yelp
Although they are a chain sandwich shop, they still do a fantastic job with their sandwiches. Not to mention but the fabulous employees working at this location will go above and beyond to provide that personal touch you enjoy when ordering at a local pizzeria or sandwich shop. We ordered a Primo size Nonna's Veggie Hoagie. It starts with a seeded roll which is then filled with breaded eggplant, sharp provolone, roasted red peppers and broccoli rabe. It was hot and fresh, delicious, filled to the brim and was definitely enough for two people ( or one very hungry person). We ended up paying around 10 bucks for the hoagie and were satisfied both by the sandwich and the service offered.
google avatar

Maureen B.

Yelp
this place is a chain and the food is gross. I was going to get a Philly cheesesteak but I couldn't see a grill anywhere - turns out they take pre-made sandwiches and stick them in the oven. Nope nope nope. I ended up getting a meatball sub for which I was charged around $13. it was mediocre at best. lukewarm meatballs and aged shredded lettuce. I suggest you look somewhere else for a good hoagie.

Yelp
So, back in 2013 I wrote a two-star review for a dry, flavorless chicken parm sandwich I got at "Primo Hoagies." This terrible meal is apparently a gift that keeps on giving, as "Spencer D" years later telling me to "take your hot sandwich and shove it up your ass u tasteless scum." That's not really my preferred way of eating a hot sandwich, but apparently, Spencer D. is an expert in such things... Does Spencer work for/own the company?
google avatar

Yelp
Always a great sandwich no matter what you get! Bread is really fresh! Super nice people!
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
They have some great sandwiches. This time I got the whacked chicken on a sesame seeded roll, tasted absolutley divine. If your a fan of spicy try their diablo sandwiches...I'll be back again. This is a great lunchtime spot.
google avatar

Tracy C.

Yelp
Authentic Italian sandwiches. For the price the portion sizes and quality ingredients = excellent! The service is always fast and staffed with friendly employees :) + huge kosher pickles $1

Alison H.

Yelp
We had an issue with our order and it turns out it was all Door Dash - Primos couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Thank you to them!!

Linda D.

Yelp
Best hoagie in town with really nice employees. This coming from a NY/NJ girl is high praise.
google avatar

Nate F.

Yelp
This place makes Subway and Jimmy Johns taste like dog feces. Don't care if it's a chain, it doesn't feel like it at all. these are the best sandwiches in the nation. Anyone who has spent any time in Philly is already aware, just had to let it be known for people coming from out of town. Be prepared for a juicy meat filled savory sandwich of your choice with fresh ingredients on an excellent roll. It will leave you full and satisfied guarantee. The oil really sets it off.
google avatar

Steven L.

Yelp
The menu is huge and I was a bit stunned by what they offered. I've tried Primo Hoagies a few times and I would say they definitely fill you up at a great price. I could easily come here everyday to get a full meal if I really wanted to do that to myself. The Italian and the Roast Beef with Turkey. They were delicious and came quick. One time I even asked for the biggest sandwich that would fill me up and got an honest and funny answer. That meal did not disappoint either. Check out the menu! There is a $10 minimum for debit/credit cards, but sometimes they enforce it and sometimes they don't.  TL;DR: Awesome price, tasty food, will definitely fill you up, quick service, closes at 6 pm.
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
Oh Primo, before this weekend I hadn't enjoyed you in probably over a year. Why must you have such selective hours?! I love Primo. Really, truly, madly, deeply, etc. I always get one of the Italian varieties with oil and I have yet to be disappointed. If you're visiting Philly for the first time, do yourself a favor and get a hoagie at one of the many Primos in the area. Get anything - it's all good.
google avatar

Yelp
I was just in here today to grab a quick hoagie for lunch. The schmuck taking orders called me "sweetie" THREE times while I was placing my order. Excessive and unnecessary. Normally I wouldn't say anything but this was getting patronizing and condescending. As I continued placing my order I paused and said "....and don't call me sweetie". Well, in a very loud and dramatic voice he says "OOOOH sorry, ma'am m, is that ok ma'am, if I call you ma'am??" Everyone stared at me. I continued with my order ignoring his douche tantrum. He started staring at my boobs, I crossed my arms. Finally, I went and stood on the side waiting for my order and thinking about what kind of misogynistic A-hole treats people this way, especially paying customers!!!!!! I noticed immediately that EVERY single person (all men) who came after me were not called anything!!! Not sir, etc. nothing!!! WHY call me anything???! Why not just treat me like a normal freaking person like everyone else??! Just take my freaking order without being a condescending, womanizing jerk!!!!
google avatar

Alec Z.

Yelp
Great sandwich for the money - get the Turkey diablo. They load it up with meat / cheese and the bread is terrific. Some sub places skimp on the meat but this is not one of them. Great value at about $9 for a regular sub - they charge the same price for a footlong at Subway. Can't beat it.
google avatar

Lindsey T.

Yelp
Great sandwich joint that has a great variety of options. Got the Italian and Turkey Diablo. Italian was wonderful and the Turkey had just the right amount of heat on it. The hoagie rolls really help to make the sandwich though - firm/thick enough to not get soggy, not a super hard crust, and soft enough to squish into your mouth for a bite of everything in the sandwich. Takes the sandwich over the top and into its own category of deliciousness. Ordering was super easy at the counter and they went through the checklist of options since we didn't know what they were (Mayo or oil, lettuce onion tomato). Wish they were open for dinner for those in the area but gave me a great opportunity to take a walk at lunch to pick it up.
google avatar

Laura H.

Yelp
I'm sad it took me so long to grab a Primo hoagie, although I'm now sadder every lunch that I'm not here and I know what I'm missing. I stopped in before noon and missed the lunch crowd. I got a regular size turkey diablo and it was HUGE, especially for the price. I paid around $7 (no credit card for less than $10 bills). It was perfectly spicy and the ingredients were fresh and the menu is enormous. My friend told me to be sure to get the fresh mozzarella next time - I'm excited to come back!
google avatar

Chris O.

Yelp
Enjoyed the hoagie very much. The strong smell of oregano and cold cuts is evident from the sidewalk. Friendly staff was working double time and barely keeping up w demand. The Sarcone's roll w sesame seeds was a great foundation for this sandwich. The kitchen seems bigger than necessary. Would be nice to be able to sit and eat at a table. Take only.
google avatar

Daniel S.

Yelp
3.5/5. As a chain, I must say their hoagies are pretty decent quality. They're made with sesame buns and each comes with the usual (lettuce n tomatoes). Make sure to get oil n mayo on them sandwiches! In order from personal best: 1) Turkey Diablo 2) Italian 3) Nelli The Nelli was a little dry. The Diablo has a nice bite to it because of the added red pepper flakes. Yum! Haven't tried too many hoagies to give an accurate comparison but I'll say that it's a quality sub, I just wish that the condiments were more evenly contained in the core of the sandwich rather than having the mass of meat sitting on the bottom 2/3 and the veggies on the upper 1/3 of the sandwich.

Evan A.

Yelp
Exton location forgot my side order items. No biggie, they did tell me I can come back to get, but that would be a waste of time. Ordered (7) sandwiches, picked up 11:30am. and ate them around 1:00pm. All were very soggy. Why put on so many pickles, sweet peppers, tomatoes, e.t.c. I did not want a salad. My goodness....learn from the pros in S. Philly....Get the right balance of meat, cheese, e.t.c....
google avatar

Vanessa Y.

Yelp
Philly is a total foodie paradise and Primo Hoagies totally delivered by serving up the tastiest sub that I demolished in record time. I ordered the Italian combo based on pictures that showed it jam packed with various pork based goodies in a sesame seed roll. The sesame seeds on the bread aren't just for decor, but for flavor enhancement. Something about the seeds really magnified the taste of the salami and aged provolone. I typically don't do bread and rarely do giant waist expanding hoagies, but this was too delicious to pass up. The good girl in me ate the allotted half...the bad girl ate the second half when she got back to the hotel.
google avatar

Abraham K.

Yelp
Seriously some of the best hoagies in town. Takes credit card. No seating inside this location, so grab it and eat in the park or at home. The turkey diablo is straight up one of the most delicious cold sandwiches I have ever eaten. The turkey is so moist and succulent, and the bread is amazing. All the diablos have a nice pepper sauce, adding a nice kick.
google avatar

Steve V.

Yelp
A group of us from work order here at least once a week. You better call in early during the lunch period if you have a large order, or else it could be a while. To get your sandwiches sooner, send a lackey to pick them up instead of getting them delivered. The Italian is the best. They have variations such as the Sharp Italians etc. But you gotta go with the classic. Loaded with meat, the "Primo" size will surely satisfy!
google avatar

George P.

Yelp
They make awesome hoagies! Really good! Friendly staff. Avoid Monday's going there. Bread is usually stale and meat not as fresh. Definitely go later in the week. That is my only suggestion.
google avatar

Namir S.

Yelp
Good as all Primos are. This one is corporate owned so they don't participate in Primo rewards. But they said the prices are slightly lower as a result. I love the quality of Primos hoagies and the flavor of the seasonings and sauces, but it is still just a hoagie and won't blow your mind. They seem understaffed because half the time when I call, they ask to call back or half a few minutes hold time
google avatar

Caitlin C.

Yelp
DO NOT go to any location besides Ritner St. Italian hoagies at their best. with names like Pal Joey (Sweet Sopressata & Fresh Mozzarella Cheese), Soprano (Pepper Turkey & Sharp Provolone Topped with Sweet Roasted Peppers) and Bada Bing(Chicken Cutlet & Sharp Provolone with Broccoli Rabe) you know you are in good hands. Get a few sides like Stuffed Pepper Shooters and you'll be set.
google avatar

Stacy O.

Yelp
A lifesaver! I had a last minute meeting to cater for 20 people and I showed up just before the doors opened at 9am. On a Monday. I explained what I needed the the guys really took care of me. No fuss no problem. Oh yes, and I needed a vegan sandwich as well. No problem. Everyone from the manager to the delivery driver was so sweet and helpful and took care of my order right away. The quality of the sandwiches is top notch. The bread, the meat, the presentation. Just perfect. I really appreciated the helpful staff and the no hassle attitude. They even carried everything out to my car for me. When I was leaving I apologized for the rush order and the manager was so nice saying "if someone came in and needed 100 sandwiches right now, we'd knock it out. No problem. That's what we do!" Well done with a smile I might add. Thanks guys! I'm a loyal customer for life. Primos is primo

Yelp
AMAZING! I love sandwiches, and I have been meaning to go ever since I saw my friend eat one for lunch. I got the chicken cutlet diablo. Hello spicy fried goodness! My bf got the beef diablo and it was fresh and amazing as well (i haven't had roast beef that good in a long time...sry jimmy johns, subways, etc). The $1 insanely huge pickle I bought on the side was great too. Yes, the key word is: great. My other half of my sandwich is sitting in my fridge (the primo size you get a massive hoagie for a great price) ...it is fearfully awaiting to be eaten STAT once I am hungry again. The place was packed when I went, but I got my sandwich super fast (about 3-5 minutes). I highly recommend. No place to sit, but we strolled to Rittenhouse to eat on the benches :)
google avatar

Howard S.

Yelp
This is the original, with staff that have been here for your. It's not a glamor spot, never eat-in facility, just darn good hoagies and specialty sandwiches.
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
I'm never disappointed by Primo sandwiches. My favorite is the "Pescara" which includes fresh roasted red peppers, awesome cheese, and big chunks of tuna without the mayo filler. Throw some chips and hot peppers on that bad boy, and voila! Chain or not, this place is awesome and the staff is always friendly!
