Some of the best bagels in the city. A bit of a trek but definitely worth it

Google
I finally got to try Primrose Bagel and honestly—it’s the best bagel I’ve had in Toronto! I ordered the Bodega Bagel on an onion bagel, and it was insanely good. Super fresh, flavorful, and really satisfying. The shop is small and cozy with a counter that seats about 6 people. They also have a patio, which would be a great choice on a sunny day. Sadly, it was raining when I visited. Rain or shine, this place is totally worth checking out. I’ll definitely be back!

Must try Bagel spot in Toronto. The fresh bagels and well made bagel was delicious. I got the BLT and it hit the spot. Huge patio to sit on and some seating inside is great to grab a bagel and get going with your day. If you’re from the city or just visiting stop at Primerose bagels and you won’t be disappointed look at the selection and try what you desire. Highly recommend.

Google
Very patients and well-prepared bagels. For a small local, they are pretty good on handling the overcrowded rush. I went at almost peak hour and the person never loose his patience. The lux salmon & cheese is quite good. Remember that this place is quite expensive (around 15 for a bagel) so make sure you check their page before. Sometimes they sell bagels from one day before, and they launch some special bagels. Overall, pretty good. I will back again on Sunday.

Google
Best Bagels in Toronto Period! The Lox and cream cheese bagel was outstanding. This was for sure the best; smoked salmon I’ve ever had, so fresh and delicious. The breakfast sandwich was also outstanding the bacon was noticeably good. The atmosphere felt very warm and community oriented. We will define back. Kenneth, the two ladies at the front and Dave was super friendly. Best Bagels in the City!

Google
The hype is warranted, the bagels are really that great. I got the lox & cream cheese on an everything bagel. The bagel was loaded with poppy and sesame seeds, and had a generous heft and softness to it. While the cream cheese wasn’t too memorable, the amount of salmon was more than what I’ve gotten at other bagel places around town, and very tasty too!

Google
Tried This Bagel Spot for the First Time – Loved It! Their bagels are seriously good — chewy in the best way, with a great texture. I especially liked the za’atar bagel — flavorful and unique, definitely a standout. I picked up the gravlax bagel, which comes with smoked salmon, but not the brined kind. That actually makes it a great match with capers and pickles, balancing the flavors really nicely. The only downside was that the salmon had just been taken out of the fridge and was still cold. Sandwiched between a freshly toasted bagel, it cooled the whole thing down pretty quickly, which took away from the overall experience. If you grab one to go, I’d recommend popping it into the oven for a quick reheat — it’ll bring out the best of both the bagel and the fillings. Definitely looking forward to going back and trying more!

Google
We have intentionally made our mission to find the best breakfast sandwich in Toronto. Little did we know we would also find the best hospitality to come with it. We were warmly greeted by two staff, Conor and Nathaniel, who suggested some delicious options for us to consider. We ended up getting the Bodega with avocado and bacon, and to say it delivered is an understatement. We will certainly be returning. 🥯

Google
I visited this spot based on a trusted recommendation, and I must say, the bagel I chose—the Bodega—was absolutely delicious. My husband, on the other hand, ordered the Pastrami, Egg, and Cheese and wasn’t a fan. It lacked pickles, which could’ve balanced out the richness of the egg and pastrami. I definitely would’ve asked for pickles if I had known they weren’t included by default. It was my first time ordering in-store, and although the menu offers a wide variety, the ordering experience was underwhelming. The staff member at the counter seemed disengaged and rushed me to order, despite there being no line. There was no effort to walk me through the options—no questions about toasting, add-ons, or preferences. Compared to ordering on Uber Eats, the in-store experience lacked clarity and personalization. The bagels themselves were decent but not outstanding—I’ve had better in Montreal. I would return, but more informed and with tempered expectations. Another downside was the wait. I waited around 20 minutes for three bagels while watching staff chat casually and move at a slow pace. There was one person on eggs, another handling fillings, and a third just packing orders. It felt like the workflow could be more efficient. The wait felt excessive, especially since they were juggling Uber Eats orders alongside walk-ins. Lastly, the location isn’t convenient if you’re coming from downtown. The drive was unpleasant due to roadworks, and by the time I got home, the bagels were a bit soggy—definitely not ideal for delivery. Overall, I’d say the food has potential, but the experience needs polishing—from customer service to prep time. I’d go back, but not in a rush.

Yelp
I came to Primrose Bakery after passing by it several times. The bagels are hand-rolled, boiled in malt, and baked fresh daily. Options for bagels are Sesame, Poppy, Everything, Rock Salt, Onion, Plain, and Za'atar Honey Oat. You can buy bagels in bulk or individually; they also sell lox, cream cheese, and merchandise. There are several menu options, and today's special in collaboration with Oroshi Fish was a bluefin tuna sandwich sashimi with scallion-chive cream cheese on a furikake bagel. The combination was delicious, and I loved the bagel's texture and taste. Service was quick for this busy location. Some indoor and outdoor seating (we brought our dog) is available. Online ordering and catering are available. Open seven days a week. Street parking availale. Small ramp to get into store, no automatic automatic door opener. Outdoor seating has two steps.

Yelp
Best bagels and lox in Toronto! I go all the time with my kids. The whole family loves it.

Yelp
Ample street parking but this place doesn't have a bathroom which is crazy?! I went on a Tuesday which happens to be the day when the library wasn't open until much later in the day. So literally wandered around the block for 20 mins before finding a bladder saving coffee shop. Anyhow, after my rendezvous around the block I was finally able to enjoy my beet salmon bagel. I would say it tasted like a pretty regular sandwich for the most part. But the ingredients were fresh and I liked the ability to people watch from the window. Would recommend if you're in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Onion bagel- cheese egg bacon add scallion cream cheese. Decadent in every bite. Cute patio shaded outside. Had a furikake bagel which I've never seen before. One of best bagel sandwiches I've ever had

Yelp
Definitely the best bagels in Toronto... fluffy and delicious. I've had the Sas and Lox, as well as the Bodega.. both amazing. Also picked up bagels to go and tried their cream cheese... all fresh. Usually a short line up and 20-30 minute wait for your bagel on the weekends but well worth it. Also have the option of ordering online.

Yelp
Best bagels in Toronto. The vegan scallion cream cheese is nut free and incredible. All ingredients are top quality. No joke, when I had Covid, this is the only thing I was in the mood to eat and I always joke how it saved my life. My husband loves their beet lox and mustard sauce.

Yelp
Try the Bodega, it is excellent. Their smoked salmon, amplified version, is also amazing, as is bubbie Alice's matzah ball soup. You can order online and pick up, or order in the restaurant to go. I'm originally from Montreal (land of bagels). While the bagels here are wider and different, they taste just as flavourful!

Yelp
All the bagel lovers NEED to know about this place! If you're looking for a loaded and delicious bagel sandwich, this is your place to go. Arrived 5 min before they opened and people started flooding in as soon as they opened their doors it was insane! They have 6 different types of bagels to choose from - we got 1 of each to try at home. As for the sandwiches, I'm a lox lover so I had to grab one of those. They're so generous with their fillings I was so happily surprised - I actually felt full from the bagel afterwards (which is pretty rare in my opinion). The bagels were soft and fresh tasting and I feel I want to come here to try more of their prepared Sammie's. They even have ingredients you can take home to make your own sandwiches. The store itself is pretty small and humble but so cutely decorated, almost like a little shop in NYC (but cleaner). Overall, loved this place and will definitely have to be back - but I recommend coming when they open since it'll be super busy!

Yelp
Food was a 2 but the service was really good so I'm bumping it up for that. Keep in mind they are a takeout joint so their service model has not needed to change much with the pandemic. Bagels aren't our style but that's not their fault - we found them dry and without chew. However I was disappointed in the lacklustre flavours in my tuna salad / crispy onions and pickles offered little contrast and texture I was expecting. We drove to Bagel Nosh after this to buy some bagels there. Good if you're in the hood and need a quick bite, not worth a trip.

Yelp
I forgot to say these are NOT Montreal style bagels. Not dense at all. But I loved them for making sandwiches and with cream cheese. Sometimes you want a different bagel you know? It's like thin crust pizza and thick crust. I like them both for different reasons
google avatar

Yelp
Carbs are my worst enemy but also the key to my heart. I found out about Primrose VIA instagram and I just wanted to mention these bagels are the best bagels I've had in Toronto. I always take a dozen to go (so I can eat them all to myself) and find myself getting a Bodega bagel while eating it on my walk back. A must try!!

Yelp
Primrose is familiar to me. I remember seeking this place out because in 2019 they were doing some summer pop-up spots, and being the adventurer that I am if I keep hearing about something, I need to check it out. Some guys were selling their bagels at spots I go to already, so I dove in. What I was met with was the idea of Toronto having their own star bagel. NYC has theirs, Montreal has there's, so maybe these players were here to showcase their version, which almost seemed like an amalgamation of everything a good bagel is. I just remember having some good ass bagels. The End. Fast forward to now, and I finally make my way to their brick and mortar to really investigate. The game becomes different when you have a storefront. You are now a member of the community, and you reflect said community. If the spot hits, then that neighborhood now becomes a neighborhood with a bomb bagel spot. If it doesn't, then it fades away and that same neighborhood was never remembered to begin with. Heavy, right. I got the rock salt bagel, and buddy did I nail the order again. It's shiny and crunchy on the outside, and dense and chewy on the inside. Look at it. You can see it in the picture. I rip the thing in half and it's still stretching for dear life. That's a trooper right there. Ok, wait. Not dense where you're leaving teeth marks in the thing. Dense as in you're not biting into pockets of air. It's got a tooth feel to it. Strong bagel, in my always correct opinion. Let's not confuse ourselves here. This is not a cheap bagel. It feels a little strange to pay $14 for something I can cop at Tim's for like 3 bucks. So let's call it exactly how it is. It's an expensive fucking bagel. But I get it and eat it and it doesn't feel like I overpaid. Here's why. I got the Lox & Sås on a rock salt bagel. There's some heft to the bag when I get it. Promising. I take it out, unfold the paper, split the thing in half, and I'm happy. It's dense and packed with things that I want. The bagel is not light and it's not fluffy. It's good dense, and it's savory to the taste. Reminds me of fresh bread. It's stuffed with lox, scallion cream cheese, capers, dill, and mustard sås (think mustard that's sweet and savory). The lox is smoky and delicious. There's a lot of it too, so the price is starting to justify itself. The scallion cream cheese with the capers and dill is refreshing, and it's the perfect pairing with the lox. You guys know what I'm talking about. You have smoked salmon with dill and capers. They nailed it. Mustard sauce rounds it out and it's the Primrose look, which I liked. OH, and the rock salt bagel with shards of salt that explode with each bite. The bagel is the seasoning too. Damn. It's still $14. There's a lot going for it. I truly did love the bagel, and I would get it again. Maybe in a few months because I'm not trying to drop $14 all the time on this, but definitely let's run it back. The menu is extensive, so I'll for sure try more things, but just that this offering from Primrose made me happy. You've represented your neighborhood well Primrose. I'll be back even if I do have to ball out for it.

Yelp
Review during Covid Lockdown, although this shouldn't really change things because there's no where to sit inside anyways. I saw one or two picnic tables outside that you could sit down at. Right now they're limiting 2 customers inside at a time. There's a sign posted on the front door. I went into pick up just bagels and saw that they have lox there. I don't eat fish, but i did grab a small pack ($17, pretty pricey) for the hubby. Him the kid both enjoyed it with some cream cheese that i had at home already so i guess it's $17 worth it. Bagels, I picked up one of every flavour they offered that day, which was 8. I wish i took a picture of the sign, but from my memory i got a honey oatmeal, plain, poppy seed, sea salt, zaatar, everything, garlic and something else..... Bagels are New York style i believe. Has a nice crisp outer layer, and inside is chewy & fluffy. Nothing like the dense sweet Montreal style bagels. I like both but each has its purpose. If i lived closer i wouldn't hesitate to pick these up as Kivas seems to have gone downhill in the last year or so.

Yelp
Best bagel I've ever had!!! I had a toasted sesame seed bagel with smoked salmon cream cheese and a pizza bagel. Sesame seed bagel with smoked salmon cream cheese - Crispy on the outside soft and a little chewy on the inside- heaven!! The cream cheese was delicious and satisfying! I knew it was going to be good by the toasty smell and the wrapping contributed to the experience. Pizza bagel- delicious with sauce and cheese. Heated up at home the crust was chewy and the sauce and cheese was flavourful. It's why there's always a line up on the weekends. Primrose offers sandwiches, different spreads, a variety of lox, special of the day. You have to order ahead of time for a dozen bagels. The service and atmosphere was warm and friendly. Adhering to covid protocols only 2 customers are allowed in at a time. If you like/love bagels you have to try them!

Yelp
They are clearly still workinng out kiinks and I'm sure it will get better. 1) staff - courteous, but need training on how to pronounce bagel. It's BAY-GUL 2) Bagels- ummmmm they are decent, good crust, but too chewy, above average but nothing to shlep for 3) tuna salad/ very very good, thIs was the star. That said. $12 a container seems like extortion In conclusion, while we (the Jews south of st Clair) have a new spot, in my Opinion, you're still better to head north on Bathurst, pit stop into gryfes and then anywhere else for tuna salad and call it a day. Best,

Yelp
Customer Service (4/5) - Friendly for the most part but I'm sure it's also tough to work during the pandemic and finding a way to be sustainable/quick to deliver meals. - There's a bit of a confusing system in bagel pick-up and as a result, one of the orders in our party was given away incorrectly. - Nice touches on the patio though like hand sanitizer at every table. - Dog friendly which is awesome for us! Food - standard bagels (5/5) - Best bagels I've had in Toronto, so soft and tasty. Their salt bagel is just divine! Food - non-standard order, their pizza bagel (2/5) - There's a lot of hype for the pizza bagel due to social media. Unfortunately, since they bake the pizza bagel by 2-3 batches at a time and leave it by the window, it's pretty cold and hard by the time we got it. The sauce/pepperoni tastes like standard fast food/delivery...which is not a bad thing depending on the circumstances, just a bit overhyped in my opinion.

Yelp
There is no other bagel you need to eat in the GTA. None. Primrose continues to nail the perfect texture and taste, and their commitment to perfection is amiable. Every time I go I buy extra to share with friends and family and convert them to the Primrose way. They are always happy. This is the way.
google avatar

Sam W.

Yelp
I'm excited by this new bagel shop in the area! The bagel flavours are unique and there are several to choose from. So far I've enjoyed salt and oat. The vegan cream cheese is the best I've ever had! Bagel texture is the perfect combo of chewy with crispy outsides. The cinnamon ruggala were also unbelievable. The matzo ball soup was a bit of a letdown with crumbly matzo balls and a pool of dill.

Matt S.

Yelp
With its lack of seating, open-til-sold-out hours, and green blackboard menus, Primrose has a really cute, Brooklyn meets Montréal, Judeo-hipster bagel shop vibe. And their flavoured cream cheeses, mixed in-house, are worth the noticeable price premium. The bagels, however, are another story. Half way between a Toronto and Montréal bagel, they're bready but not soft, dense but not chewy, neither sweet nor malty. If this is your bag (or you're at round the corner), then you'll be pleased; but if you're looking for something light for a sandwich or something nutty for toasting, then this may not be the place for you.
google avatar

Marco M.

Yelp
got a lox bagel. barely any smoked salmon inside it for the price of a full pack of smoked salmon. terrible hours of operation, sandwiches are only available for like 2 hours of the day. it's really just a place to buy ingredients.

Janine R.

Yelp
3.0 stars. I really wanted to try a bagel sandwich with whitefish and this was the only place that I could find that had whitefish when I Googled. I bought a small container of smoked whitefish salad for almost 13$. Fish is expensive so I can't complain about that and it was REALLY good. I also bought 6 poppy seed bagels and 6 everything. The bagels are comparatively small compared to Great Canadian Bagel. I liked that they put a lot of flavoring on both sides of the bagel but thought they were overpriced because they are small. The bagel texture is different from others that I have. I live more than an hour away from this shop so I would not go back unless I was in the area. The whitefish was really good but I prefer less chewy and bigger bagels.
google avatar

Judd R.

Yelp
Great bagels, friendly staff, In-house smoked fish better than anywhere in the city. Try the creole trout, it is to die for.
google avatar

Kristina R.

Yelp
The best bagels in the city, as far as I'm concerned. The bagels are hand-made, their lox is delicious. They do have long lineups on weekends and sell out before noon. Come in early or on a weekday to avoid disappointment.

David K.

Yelp
Hands down the best bagel in Toronto. All the flavor, chew and exterior texture you expect in a good bagel. A little pricey, and they can run out early but well worth the cost, and the effort to get there early. Why have I never seen a Za'atar bagel before coming to Primrose? There couldn't be a tastier or more complementary topping!

Raffi K.

Yelp
Such a pleasure this place is close to us. Delicious bagels, delicious and thoughtful toppings. I like my bagels, but this place is a cut above. Kinda gourmet-y without being pretensious. We got whitefish on a honey oat bagel, and the super lox on an onion. Both delish, so much care taken in preparing them too!

Betty B.

Yelp
I drive from Thornhill to purchase these bagels. They are expensive at $16.00 a dozen, but a very tasty bagel. They are a good size, crispy on the outside and packed with seeds. I have only tried the sesame, everything and poppy and both top and bottom are buried in seeds unlike other bagels that usually have a slight sprinkle in top. They freeze well.

Karen T.

Yelp
Love this place! The onion is bagel is amazing along with their house smoked citrus & beet salmon. Maybe a bit pricey, but everything is made on site, so worth it, I think.
