Yelp
You know, if you're looking for an ultra modern, chic hotel, with tons of amenities, this is not for you. If you're looking for the charm only an old building can give you, with its high ceilings, up to date facilities but done so that they fit in well with the age of the building, its a comfortable, usually quiet place, but still child friendly. It enjoys a good reputation for a nice, affordable meal, well-loved interior, respectable and clean rooms and suites, ..its predictable. I like that. No surprises. I expect a crisp clean bed; pleasantly smelling surroundings; older but clean; friendly service, and a pool/sauna to finish my day. You'll find a comfortable/casual dining room overlooking the largest of the great lakes, Lake Superior. If you request a window view, you can watch sailing boats in the harbour, mixing with the lake and ocean-going vessels ready to take on a full load before departing to places like Chicago, Detroit, the Bahamas. You will also see children in Marina Park enjoying the dipping pool, the skate boarding facility, as well as business folk on their lunch hour taking time to finish that last chapter on a bench near the water, and of course, vacationing couples, usually guests of the hotel, enjoying the boardwalk and the invigorating lake breeze in their hair. Its an historic landmark in what used to be the city of Port Arthur before it amalgamated with Fort William, to the south, becoming the new city of Thunder Bay, in 1970. Try it, I'm sure you'll like it very much! K.F. (a former resident of the city, now living in Burlington, Ontario)
