I loved staying here, the restaurant was good to me too. And the workers, but I was banned because one of my family members found my key and used my room for an extra night. (Cause health Canada pays for an extra night the day we check out now.(becausw our flights anre in the evenings that’s why they do it, isn’t it your guys job to know when we check out etc? I even told the front desk worker I checked out. But yet I was banned. Because a family member who was visiting me the day I was leaving must of took my key. They know that health Canada books an extra night the day we check out. Not fair! It’s your guys job not me.

Great views from our room of the Waterfront. Good location. Front desk staff were very nice. There is a Security guard in the front lobby and I wouldn't feel comfortable going outside at night by myself. The rooms could use an update but were comfortable. Got some traffic noise as the air conditioner is in the window with a busy street outside. The restaurant inside the hotel doesn't look very nice but there is an awesome Thai restaurant "Thai Kitchen" just steps away.

It was a long drive to Thunder Bay and when we arrived many hotels were booked or too pricey. I should have booked ahead, regardless, it was a blessing to get a room at The Prince Arthur Waterfront Hotel. I agree with the other reviewers that the area around the hotel is sketchy. There's a big parking lot available for guests and it's right near the waterfront and other attractions so the location of the hotel is really good but I would avoid walking around the area at night. As for the hotel, it has old world charm being that the hotel first opened in 1911 and that makes it quite unique. Amenities include a swimming pool, jacuzzi, a restaurant on site, and waterfront rooms. The small elevator is classic and it's amazing how that small elevator transports so many guests. We stayed on the fifth floor and had a pleasant room overlooking Lake Superior. Everything was fine in the room except the towels could be better. The front desk is outstanding. They're friendly, helpful, and shining stars. Everyone I encountered at the front desk was exceptional. Although the hotel is a bit pricey, my boyfriend and I are glad we stayed at The Prince Arthur Waterfront Hotel. We were impressed with the location on Lake Superior, the nostalgic setting, views of the waterfront, and a relaxing room. Thank You to The Prince Arthur Waterfront Hotel.

Would avoid this hotel. The room was simple, comfortable and clean. The staff was very friendly. Unfortunately, the clientele here was not ideal. It seems that hotel is providing support to unhoused people. This is commendable, but staying in a space with those with active tobacco, drug and alcohol addiction is not what I want to be doing on vacation. I would not bring children here. We left in the wee hours of the morning to get out asap.

Google
The hotel has an old-world charm including the older tape reel elevator telling you what floor it is on. It even has a sign that says it works, just slow. The rooms are retro fit to have electricity and plug-ins, but you can tell this place was around even before then. The bed was comfortable, the view towards the water was perfect for sunrise/sunset views and the shower was perfect.

This was our first stay at the Prince Arthur Hotel. The neighbourhood looks a little sketchy but we had no problems and they do have a Security Guard stationed in the front lobby. I wouldn't recommend walking around outside by yourself after dark.||The front desk staff were very nice. Our room was clean, albeit a little old and dated. There was some traffic noise due to the air conditioner in the window which looks out to a busy street but it wasn't awful.||We had a lovely view of the Waterfront. There is an EXCELLENT Thai Restaurant just steps away from the Hotel. 'Thai Kitchen'. Go! ||The Hotel is in a nice location and you can go for a nice walk in the park across the street.

Google
The rooms are just fine and the staff is friendly. The lake view is excellent. Our stay included very loud neighboring rooms, and it seemed like there may have been people being temporarily housed within the hotel. Folks hanging around the entrances smoking and loitering. Won’t stay here again.

This hotel has seen better days! The room was fine, but all the carpet in the entire building looks like it's ancient and needs to be replaced. Also, although it is a no smoking building, the hallway outside her room was full of cigarette smell. There was a pool that we didn't use, I never even saw it. Basically it's just a rundown hotel, but it was clean, and the staff were lovely.

Yelp
I've stayed here the last few years and plan on staying here in the future. This hotel has so much history and the ambiance is amazing. Yes it's old...106 years to be exact but that's what makes it so cool to stay at. The staff is great and the beds are comfortable. The wifi works really well for such an old building. 5 Stars!

Yelp
Dude... just don't do it. It's like staying in an old Wild West saloon bar hotel, 1" thick wood walls, wooden door with a hazed glass window, old ass tv's since back when you could smoke in the rooms type old, and DO NOT USE THE HOT TUB IN THE BASEMENT!!! Felt like I was in a pot of cream of mushroom soup, but it wasn't soup. It's sad really. She's an old girl from the turn of the century (well the turn of the previous 2 centuries) and she was the flag ship of the British empire I'm sure! But she's a hostel now with a bar, a restaurant and a bathroom in every room (but don't quote me on that)

Yelp
what a disappointment. booked a 4 night stay in what I expected to be a Grand old hotel. it turned out to be a run down, shabby old building. the single elevator was slow. the elevator floor was filthy. no dresser in the room. the furniture looked like Goodwill threw it out. a shabby, torn wingback chair in the corner that I was afrsid to sit in. noisy. the gaps around the very noisy AC unit were sealed up with black duct tape. the base of the wall under the window was sealed with spray foam. the building is 113 years old and shows every minute of it. a group of undesirables and panhandlers always milling around the entrance off the parking lot. definitely over priced for what you get. the view was good and the staff was friendly

Yelp
We stayed in room #502 for two nights last weekend. Our room was clean and the whirlpool was really nice after a cold day outside walking. The bed was small (but we are a tall couple) and we could have used two pillow each but the room was nice having a sleeping and sitting area. Our view overlooked the city and we had windows on two sides. Being on the top floor at the end of the hallway our room was very quite so I highly recommend this room. Staff was extremely friendly. Although there seemed to be some sort of sketchy people hanging around the outside and lobby no one bothered us, in fact everyone was nice. It's nothing super fancy but everything we needed at a fair price.

Yelp
Very friendly staff and excellent location to the Marina Park and restaurants in the area. The lake facing rooms have great views of the Sleeping Giant Provincial Park. The hotel and room is quite dated, and has a very old smell to it. The rooms do come with window air conditioning.

Yelp
Stayed here April 26/22. The pictures looked great. Got to the hotel, it's very old. It has been slightly updated and it's decently clean. The carpets are old and questionable. The doors squeak like crazy, the beds are not comfortable at all. The walls are very thin and you can hear the people in the next room. The views were amazing. And the room we had was larger than a standard two bed hotel. The back door key card was broken the security guard had to act as a door boy. The staff was not friendly and acted annoyed when I checked in. Overall I would say for the price there are other hotels that I would have chosen but they were all booked up.

Yelp
The hotel is in a good location in comparison to the waterfront, but the area around it is sketchy. Room was clean, but shows some wear and tear which can be expected in a historic building but isn't desirable. This place could be a lot better is money was invested in better upkeep.

Yelp
I think 1.5 stars might be more accurate than 2. Things were strange right from booking the room. We needed joint rooms and it seemed the Prince Arthur couldn't accommodate. Then when we said we'd try somewhere else they suddenly had space. But when we showed up they couldn't find any. After 10 minutes they found adjoining rooms. The room, like the rest of the hotel, was tired and in need of updates or just a coat of paint. Anything. We were there for a wedding, which was also at the Prince Arthur. My family was told that the banquet area's PA system needed to be fixed and would be in time for the wedding. This did not happen. The speakers were shot and guests couldn't hear anything. The sound was distorted and couldn't be heard in the whole room (which wasn't that big to begin with). I will give Cathy her due....after I complained enough she had another PA system brought in and we were able to salvage the rest of the night. I'll also more that despite the sign on the front door, they are not locked, so no need to walk all them way around the back of the building to enter, like I did. I didn't eat the buffet in the restaurant but it looked good, as did a few other breakfast plates. No complaints there. I don't think I'd stay there again, unless I had a time machine to take me back to 1963. Then the decor would be perfect.

Yelp
Cool Historic C.N. Hotel......if you want cookie cutter motel stay don't stay here. Staff friendly and helpful breakfast was great and the view from our room was excellent. Will be staying here again

Yelp
It's a room in a historic hotel. Rooms are fine to sleep or ....whatever. switched our room from city to lakeside and then well I am not saying...but mention the price you see as you drive in and they will beat expedia. 5 stars for that.

Yelp
Pretty basic accommodations. Not the nicest area. Close to the casino, if you're into that sort of thing. Stayed here to fly using the Thunder Bay airport. (Turned out to be NOT at all close to it.) Price was good but I wouldn't stay here again. They don't actually have an airport shuttle. They send you by cab with a voucher ONLY ONE WAY unless you stay there before AND after your air travel. No air conditioning in room. Basically clean. No enforcement of guests to not be loud and unruly. They did let me park the car there for free for 4 days while traveling elsewhere by air, and my car was fine when I returned so I guess that's worth something.

Yelp
After reading a couple previous reviews I was hesitant to say here. It must have been updated and renovated since the last review was posted. It's still an older building but very clean and has been recently renovated. I would be back here again. I had a very nice view of the Sleeping Giant and the staff were quite friendly.

Yelp
1.5/5 service: friendly beds: horrible decore: creepy the entire hotel seems like its based out of a horror movie which makes sleeping a little harder. the rooms clean but nothing special the beds are hard the pillows are firm and uncomfortable to sleep on. dont think ill ever be coming back here again.

Yelp
I think a remodel would do wonders for this hotel. I'd be willing to stay here again. However, it was pretty run down. Everything was kind of worn, and the cold water in the sink didn't really work (the faucet spun freely both directions, and water wouldn't come out). However, the staff were pleasant, and everything was clean. I also dug the black and mint green tile in the shower.

Yelp
This hotel reeks of owners and management that don't care about this historic building or their guests. Their tagline "Choose the Prince Arthur Waterfront Hotel for its history, quality and location" is an absolute joke. We reserved a room here because we were celebrating our tenth anniversary and we thought that an old classic hotel would be more charming than a chain hotel. Boy were we wrong. We checked into a very small dirty room with scuffed furniture and dingy peeling wallpaper. The bathroom vanity was dirty and stained, and the cold water tap was broken. We were charged a pet fee for our dog but couldn't even let him walk around the room because he kept finding old food to eat off the dirty carpet. Needless to say we kept our socks on. We checked in at midnight so the front doors were locked. The security guard opened the front door just far enough for my husband to get one foot in and then he walked away while my husband struggled with his arms full of luggage. The one positive was that the front desk clerk was kind and respectful. I hope he finds a better job soon. We paid more for this hotel room than we did for a beautiful, well appointed room at a Radisson in downtown Winnipeg the previous night. If it wasn't so late and if we hadn't already been in the car for ten hours, we definitely would have left and stayed elsewhere. Do yourself a favour and book a hotel that actually cares about their guests.

Yelp
No idea what was supposed to be renovated, nothing has been renovated since the doors opened from the looks of it. Booked a lake facing view for two rooms, upon arrival was given rooms facing the city. Told front desk I had booked lake facing rooms, they looked said yes you did, we just dont have any available. Hey geniuses if your gona take the reservation you need to have it available, took a downgrade with no compensation. The "gym" is laughable at best, the pool is a disgusting, the hot tub is closed. The restaurant is outdated and overpriced, you cant charge Toronto prices in Thunder Bay. The elevator tho cool and retro is basically useless, the whole place is just soooo outdated and run down. The Good- The staff were friendly and genuinely tried to help. The location is ok I guess, the rooms were ok and at least on the surface seemed clean. This was our first trip to thunder bay and I certainly dont intend to return, that being said if I do I think I would stick to a chain hotel. Also they have a dot matrix printer, blast from the past!!!

Yelp
Don't stay here. This hotel is old and run down. Hair dryer was broken. TV an old rear projection piece of junk. Shower faucet missing pieces. 2 inch gap under door means a laser beam of light brightens the room during the night. The original hot tub is boarded up and there is a cheap replacement that is no warmer than my grumpy aunt Linda's gaze. The change rooms have large sections boarded up with plywood, with electrical cords dangling from the ceiling. Looks like something you'd see in a horror movie. There were no towels near the pool area and we had to back track to the front desk. The free breakfast included was actually good! Yes, one bright spot, right? Nope. There was one waitress serving about 15 tables. It was a disaster. Upon checking out of this hellhole, neither of the front desk employees asked how our stay was. They know this hotel is terrible. This hotel is falling apart and I don't think anyone there cares. Like I said before, don't stay here.

Jack G.

Yelp
This hotel offers a great view of the harbour but little else. The rooms are ancient, the washrooms spartan and stained, but all was clean. Breakfast was included and was surprisingly generous. But there must be better places to stay in Thunder Bay.

Kathryn F.

Yelp
You know, if you're looking for an ultra modern, chic hotel, with tons of amenities, this is not for you. If you're looking for the charm only an old building can give you, with its high ceilings, up to date facilities but done so that they fit in well with the age of the building, its a comfortable, usually quiet place, but still child friendly. It enjoys a good reputation for a nice, affordable meal, well-loved interior, respectable and clean rooms and suites, ..its predictable. I like that. No surprises. I expect a crisp clean bed; pleasantly smelling surroundings; older but clean; friendly service, and a pool/sauna to finish my day. You'll find a comfortable/casual dining room overlooking the largest of the great lakes, Lake Superior. If you request a window view, you can watch sailing boats in the harbour, mixing with the lake and ocean-going vessels ready to take on a full load before departing to places like Chicago, Detroit, the Bahamas. You will also see children in Marina Park enjoying the dipping pool, the skate boarding facility, as well as business folk on their lunch hour taking time to finish that last chapter on a bench near the water, and of course, vacationing couples, usually guests of the hotel, enjoying the boardwalk and the invigorating lake breeze in their hair. Its an historic landmark in what used to be the city of Port Arthur before it amalgamated with Fort William, to the south, becoming the new city of Thunder Bay, in 1970. Try it, I'm sure you'll like it very much! K.F. (a former resident of the city, now living in Burlington, Ontario)

Yelp
This hotel is something out of a horror movie. Super old, dirty, water-stained suites with ancient carpets/furniture/bathrooms. After driving all day with the next day also being devoted to driving, I was happy just to have a place with an air conditioner to sleep peacefully for the night. The shower was horrible (no pressure, extremely difficult to control the temperature), but I was willing to look past that as long as I could have a restful sleep. My partner and I were awoken at 6:30am to a rapid, loud dripping sound - the ceiling was leaking! And we weren't even on the top floor! In my sleepy haze, I called the front desk, and they sent housekeeping up to check it out. Then, front desk called back and informed us they were sending maintenance.... In an hour and a half! I had to call back and request that we were moved to a new room! They didn't even think to offer this to us - they expected us to stay in a room with a constant drip from the ceiling near the bed and, I guess, wait for maintenance?? It was appalling. This place is garbage.
