Really friendly atmosphere when you walk in followed by the welcoming staff members behind the bar. A good selection of top notch food with ample portions that will leave you leaning back and debating whether you can squeeze in dessert (there’s always room for dessert) very dog friendly. Highly recommended.

We stayed here at the start of our south-to-north Dartmoor hike — a 30-mile adventure over two days — and the location couldn’t have been better. Right on the moor, it’s the ideal launch point for anyone tackling a big walk across this beautiful, rugged part of the country. The accommodation was exactly what we’d hoped for: clean, comfortable, no frills, just what you want from a mid- to low-range pub stay. Perfect for hikers or those stopping over on a budget. What really made our stay memorable, though, were the staff. From the moment we arrived, they were welcoming, full of good humour, and genuinely eager to help. We needed an early start for our first day of walking, and they kindly put together a packed lunch for us in place of breakfast, a small gesture that really went above and beyond. We did have breakfast on our return stay at the end of the hike, and it was a lovely surprise, high quality, tasty, and clearly using good local ingredients. The sausages in particular were a highlight! We’d happily stay again. A brilliant pub base for anyone planning to explore Dartmoor.

Came in for food. Had two of the specials. Potato and leak soup and the burrito. Soup was hearty and flavourful accompanied with warm bread and butter can't go wrong. The burrito was nice paired with chips and side salad. Little greasy but had all the right flavours. Staff were great no complaints. Will come here again for sure.

Lovely pub for a drink after a long hike on the Moors. Great Sunday roast and wide menu for veggie options. Reasonable prices. Good beers and Ales. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Lovely friendly staff serving both locals and visitors. Highly recommend the pies... Cooked to order generously stuffed filling and extra pot of gravy. Nice drop off local ale. We were booked in for six, but we're able to feed us much early, which was appreciated. Perfect stop on a 60k dartmoor crossing.

When I say the best burgers I’ve ever had, they well and truly are. Discovered these last year and planned a four day hike around getting these burgers again this year! (Ended up going twice) And still just as tasty as I remember. If you are able to come and try, definitely worth while.

We called in again yesterday at this wonderful place in between lunch and dinnertimes for a pint and something to eat. Its the same result - good value food - plentiful in quantity and reasonably priced. The beer is excellently kept. It is a relaxing place with a friendly atmosphere and no sneering self-important people that can easily be found elsewhere. The staff take time to talk to you and its a really pleasant experience. I think any negative reviews on here, with due consideration given to the right to have an express your own opinion, probably say more about the person concerned than this excellent establishment.....and NO I don't have any connection to this place but often drive 2.5 hours to use it. Thanks to ALL the staff concerned.

Visited for lunch on Sunday with daughter and parents and dog. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Food was lovely. Would definitely visit again. I did book a table in advance as it can get busy.
