"Take a journey on the Cardinal Amtrak train to visit this station hidden in the Appalachian Mountains.
The Prince, West Virginia station was constructed as a Chesapeake & Ohio rail station in 1880. It quickly became a freight and passenger hub, which required expansions to the original wooden depot. In 1917, the station was severely damaged by a fire.
As the 1940s approached, the C&O president built the current red brick building. It was praised for its sleek, modern features and it has remained that way since its unveiling in 1946. If visitors look at the back mural, they will find a photo of the construction of the tracks outside Prince Station. The station contains about 40 seats and bathrooms.
On the floor is C&O’s logo, Chessie the kitten, in terrazzo. This logo was one of the most popular corporate marketing campaigns. The slogan of the campaign was, “Sleep Like a Kitten and Wake Up Fresh as a Daisy in Air-Conditioned Comfort.” This is a popular sight to see amongst train enthusiasts." - ATLAS_OBSCURA
Just wow! Love this little vintage train station nestled in the New River Gorge National park. You can actually walk to gorgeous nearby free camping. But good to know, there’s minimal signal down in Prince so plan ahead. Also the bathroom is nice enough but otherwise no amenities beyond a cool old waiting room. We caught the Amtrak right on time.

I hope Amtrak restores this location and really capitalizes off of it being in a national park now. The amount of business that can bring them I hope they realize and invest in all the locations in the New River Gorge.

Can’t speak to the experience, but the Art Deco style station was pretty cool. Look up the history of the Prince Depot. Bet it’s beautiful here in the fall.

We came across the Amtrak train station in Prince while checking out the Fall foliage. It’s a cool 😎 looking building kind of in the middle of nowhere it pops right out at you. We did see the Amtrak train go by while we were under the New River Gorge bridge moving fast. If in the area check it out

I really enjoyed this little blast to the past at a modern day Amtrak Station. The CSX still operates the railways as well. If you are looking for a vintage style location/place to take some cool photos, I would recommend this cute little station.

Was lucky enough to visit when a train was due to arrive. It's a basic station without a lot of frills. The guy that was running the place was very helpful and friendly and more than happy to answer questions even though I was just there to visit the place and take pictures.

Good place for fishing and tourists. Not much else here except the train station.
