Excellent location the city is very walkable so everything is in reach and the fancy spa is just down the road. Unfortunately when we got their their spa wasn't available and that wasn't mentioned on the website and the light in our bathroom stopped working on our last night so that was frustrating. The staff are super friendly and the vibes are really nice and it's cool to appreciate the heritage and history of the place. That being said its skeleton is old, if you're used to modern hotels that are sound resistant then you'll be surprised that you can hear everything in the rooms around you

Had the high tea at Prince’s Gate Hotel and it was next level—proper flaky layers, buttery as, and melt-in-your-mouth good. All were spot-on, and the sweet selection was lovely. Bit of a crumb explosion, but totally worth it! Stunning setting and service with real care. Easily a 10/10—go out of your way for this one

No souless hotel vibe here, details and quirks abound. Our room was roomy with plenty of bench space in the bathroom. ||We got a special deal by paying in advance, but better still, due to their hot pool being out of service, we got a heftly discount at the Polynesion Spa by waving our hotel key there. ||You can pick up fresh towels at hotel reception as you head out to the spa, no questions asked. ||Lastly, the friendly Elsa arranged for us to have a late check-out. Prince's Gate Hotel, thank you, you exceeded expectations!

Very disappointed as we were looking forward to this weekend in Rotorua. We chose this hotel because of its historic setting and having 3 hot pools on site. However on arrival we were told that the hot pools were all out of action (no prior indication had been given.). Our room was not in the hotel but around the corner in a courtyard behind the hotel and lacked the experience of staying in an historic building. Later that night we discovered that there was no hot water! The staff were at a loss as to what to do and offered no solution for our predicament. After going back to reception a second time it was apparent that we were not the only ones without hot water. The receptionist tried his best and in the end we were offered a refund and complementary breakfast. When we went for the breakfast the food and coffee were at best luke warm. We left that morning and were surprised at the lack of interest or concern expressed about what had happened and our early departure. I wonder if this is not the first time.

Excellent location, right in town, so handy to restaurants and shopping. Room could do with a freshen up but still beautiful inside. The room was advertised with the use of a spa pool, which was under maintenance. The hotel did provide free entry into a spa down the road, which was amazing. The room was also advertised with supplying robes, which our room did not have. The breakfast buffet had a lot of options and was well worth including in the stay.

The location is perfectly positioned in the center of town. The staff we met were lovely and showed us to our room Which wasn’t inside the main building. The courtyard outside our room was pretty and there was plenty of parking during our visit. The room itself was ok. It was weirdly updated and yet also tired. Also the door to The second bedroom in our suite didn’t close due to the positioning of the bed which felt Odd and meant not as much privacy as we wanted (we came were a party of two couples hence why we got the two bedrooms. Other than that our visit was pleasant.

Classic hotel well located. Staff weren’t particularly friendly BUT the room was awesome, and amazing to be able to walk to cafes and restaurants nearby. Recommend the deluxe 2 bed for a family of 5. Also pool out of order but got to use Polynesian Spa family pools for free 👍

We had a fantastic 2 days stay here, the room was gorgeous, bathroom was a bit tired in comparison. The food was excellent we ate there both nights, central location, the pools were not open due to a maintenance issue which was very disappointing but as previous reviewers have said you got into the Polynesian spa for free. We also received a hand written welcome not form the GM which was a ice touch.

Yelp
Knock down the building and rebuild a brand new hotel. The place is disgusting from top to bottom and should be condemned. The room is musty and smelly. The carpet and curtains are filthy. There are filthy chandeliers hanging over our bed with cobwebs in them. No screens on the windows. Old furniture. I've been coughing and spitting up phlegm since I entered the room and my husband's allergies are on full force. We booked this through Goway travel who specializes in New Zealand and cannot express our disappointment and upset enough as this is our once in a lifetime vacation to New Zealand. Don't waste your money. Really horrific. Not a boutique hotel at all - it's an antique hotel that should be thrown out.

Yelp
This is a super cute hotel in downtown Rotaruo, very close to shops/restaurants/activities in the area. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful. The building itself is older (built about 120 years ago), but they seem to be keeping the building itself in great consolation. They also have great wraparound porches on both floors that provide nice space for relaxing at your room. Oveee red all highly recommend. The restaurant is very good as well.
