Charming Vintage Boutique Hotel with Great Service Prince's Gate Hotel is a beautiful vintage boutique hotel — perfect for those who appreciate classic architecture and old-world charm. I personally liked the unique feel of the place. We booked a 2-bedroom suite. The master bedroom had a heater, though it wasn’t very effective. The second bedroom, living area, and bathrooms had no heating initially, which made it a bit uncomfortable. However, once we requested extra heaters, the hotel staff provided them promptly and things improved. It would be great if the hotel considered upgrading the heating and water systems for better comfort and energy efficiency. A special mention to Ms. Star at the reception — she was extremely helpful, courteous, and professional. Check-in was smooth, and the reception area is stunning, complete with two cozy fireplaces that add to the charm. During our stay, the hotel’s pool was under maintenance, but they made alternative arrangements at the Polynesian Spa, which was a thoughtful touch. Overall, it's a good stay for those who appreciate historic boutique charm and a gracious atmosphere. Just be mindful of the heating situation in colder months

From the moment I arrived, the check-in service was exceptional—warm, welcoming, and efficient, making me feel right at home. The staff went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. The room was beautifully appointed, spacious, and spotlessly clean, with a classic charm that made the stay truly memorable. Every detail felt thoughtful and elegant. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for comfort and top-notch service in a stunning setting!

Delightful experience at the Princes Gate Boutique Hotel! The check-in process was seamless and stress-free, thanks to the friendly staff who greeted me with genuine smiles and helpful tips about the local area. The rooms were a perfect blend of historic charm and modern comfort—cozy, well-maintained, and filled with character. This hotel absolutely delivers. I left feeling relaxed and well cared for, and I can’t wait to return!

Great location. Can walk to places to eat. Perfect location for the show across the road. Close drive to everything. The reception service was welcoming and pleasant. Our room. 30, was OK. As others had mentioned it had issues with worn out bathroom and furniture. The little kitchen cupboard needs a tidy up. For the $320 we paid you would appreciate a bit more. Maybe a note regarding the out of service spa on website.... Nice option of Polynesian spa. The breakfast was really nice. The options were great. Really loved the custard pastry. The happy hour was far from happy. That let our stay down. Maybe keep up with your stock so you don't run short of everything.

Stayed at a hotel in Rotorua that’s super close to the main city area and the Polynesian Spa the location was amazing. The hotel itself has a very antique vibe, which makes it great for photos. If you have heavy luggage, it might be a bit inconvenient since there’s no elevator, but I think that’s just part of the building’s old charm. There were no robes or slippers provided in the room, and there was no option to charge devices via USB cable. But honestly, all of that was made up for by how friendly and helpful the staff were . they really made the stay enjoyable.

Excellent location the city is very walkable so everything is in reach and the fancy spa is just down the road. Unfortunately when we got their their spa wasn't available and that wasn't mentioned on the website and the light in our bathroom stopped working on our last night so that was frustrating. The staff are super friendly and the vibes are really nice and it's cool to appreciate the heritage and history of the place. That being said its skeleton is old, if you're used to modern hotels that are sound resistant then you'll be surprised that you can hear everything in the rooms around you

Central hotel . We chose it for the old world charm (which it had) . It doesn't have a lift so you need to carry your suitcases upstairs ( luckily the receptionist helped us ) The room was large but the bathroom had no heating and it was not warm when we were there. The small spa pools were being fixed but we got access to the Polynesian Spa for free instead which was much better. The bar cannot serve drinks if there is no one eating in the evening (licensing). The restaurant was nice but the service and food was not . It has been takeover recently and is still a work in progress.

Excellent location, right in town, so handy to restaurants and shopping. Room could do with a freshen up but still beautiful inside. The room was advertised with the use of a spa pool, which was under maintenance. The hotel did provide free entry into a spa down the road, which was amazing. The room was also advertised with supplying robes, which our room did not have. The breakfast buffet had a lot of options and was well worth including in the stay.

Yelp
Knock down the building and rebuild a brand new hotel. The place is disgusting from top to bottom and should be condemned. The room is musty and smelly. The carpet and curtains are filthy. There are filthy chandeliers hanging over our bed with cobwebs in them. No screens on the windows. Old furniture. I've been coughing and spitting up phlegm since I entered the room and my husband's allergies are on full force. We booked this through Goway travel who specializes in New Zealand and cannot express our disappointment and upset enough as this is our once in a lifetime vacation to New Zealand. Don't waste your money. Really horrific. Not a boutique hotel at all - it's an antique hotel that should be thrown out.

Yelp
This is a super cute hotel in downtown Rotaruo, very close to shops/restaurants/activities in the area. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful. The building itself is older (built about 120 years ago), but they seem to be keeping the building itself in great consolation. They also have great wraparound porches on both floors that provide nice space for relaxing at your room. Oveee red all highly recommend. The restaurant is very good as well.
