This is my first cruise aboard the Princess Cruise line so as usual, I'm here to give you my unbiased review and pictures and highlights of our trip.
My wife and I have cruised with most of the other lines so we have quite a bit of experience to compare with and we were both pleased with our adventure aboard the Emerald Princess out of Ft Lauderdale FL.
It's not their biggest boat and it's not their smallest boat, it's medium sized and carries about 3,000 passengers, to give you an idea. It was refurbished back in 2019 I think I read and the boat still looked new and fresh, so they did a good job.
Our cruise was to the Panama Canal with several ports before and after. I plan to write a separate review and upload pics for each one of those separately.
Let me start off by saying that this is the PERFECT cruise for a middle aged to older couple without kids or leave your kids at home. Yes, they do have a facility for children of all ages, (no children's pool area tho) but we were on the boat for 12 days and I doubt there were 20 kids or less on there. Whereas other lines have lots of stuff for kids to do, this cruise line is best for those without.
The entertainment nightly was awesome! Some nights it was a Broadway style show, another Rock and Roll or Soul Music tribute, an Elton John & Billy Joel pianist, a Frank Sinatra style singer tribute, Whitney Houston artist another night and even one of the best mentalists in the world, Jeff Newman another night. I always suggest going to the theater 30 mins early before showtime to get the best seats.
And The food was above average in most places and AMAZING in the specialty and casualty dining. First off, the buffets didn't disappoint at all. Plenty of variety and choices always, for all meals. Fresh burgers, hotdogs, fries, fresh pizza, street tacos and more could be had up to 11pm. (Sorry, no 24hr pizza tho).
The casual dining on the Emerald Princess included the Planks BBQ, the Salty Dog Pub, and the Steamers Seafood. The Planks BBQ is the one not to miss, their BBQ was some of the best southern style BBQ you will ever have and the macaroni and cheese is to die for.
Specialty dining at the Crown Grill and Sabatinis is a must do on your list as well. The steaks are perfect at the Crown and the Italian food and atmosphere and selections at Sabatinis are better than most any place on land we have ever been to.
And for regular dining, the service and food there was always good and the menu changed daily. You could also always have two of anything you wanted, even entrees, they encouraged it. And let's not forget, they still over a decent menu for unlimited 24hr room service as well.
It's a very relaxed ship and daily schedule. Not a whole lot going on during the day. There is usually a singer or small band or a Piano man or a string duet playing in some venue or bar area around the ship every hour or two. They push the shopping and art experience heavily of course. Bingo and various little events happen at least twice a day. I saw 4 pools, 6 hot tubs, pickleball, mini golf, and a running track in addition to the spa and gym areas.
I've uploaded all the pics from around the ship. Lastly, DEFINITELY take advantage of the Princess Plus package. Not only does it save you money but the added benefit of food and drink delivery to you anywhere on the ship is worth more than anything.
