17 Best Bars in Berlin

"Prinzipal looks like just another closed apartment door on bustling Oranienstraße, but inside, the bar is a self-described "rabbit hole" of decadence. It's one of the few bars in Berlin with a truly luxe atmosphere (don't fear, the furniture on the upper level is still vintage and mismatched), where glamour abounds via soft lighting and draped curtains. It doubles as a burlesque venue, so expect chic, 1920s sophistication—plus some memorable cocktails." - Krystin Arneson

The cocktails are a bit pricey (~14€), they also have mocktails. I liked interesting glasses. I was there on Burlesque performances, it was amazing! It was also in a way cozy: we were like ~12-14 people in a small room. What I like a lot - inclusivity! There was not only a female performer, but also a drag-queen! ✅ Card payment ❗the menu and burlesque program is in German P.s. I find it a bit pushy: when you order a cocktail they instantly ask about the water (extra 3€). When you pay, they ask whether you want to leave a tip.

An amazing and memorable night! From beginning to end it felt like stepping into an alternate world where everyone was genuinely kind and thoughtful. I ordered drinks both on and off menu, and everything was delicious. The dancing was fabulous! Both acts were top notch and it was like watching art. I am so glad I went and would absolutely go again when I return to Berlin.

Tax evasion/scam? I made a reservation on the website, where it’s specified a payment link will follow in email. Never got payment link in email. At the same time, I reached out over WhatsApp. I was offered to pay via PayPal or international bank transfer. I refused to do, after talking to my bank - they explained that this is a major red flag for tax evasion and money laundering. I could partake in some illegal scheme, unknowingly. I asked to pay via payment link. I was told my reservation was no longer valid, they’re fully booked. Considering notifying the police.

Ended up being last people in there. Was drinking and chatting to the bar man. Spoke amazing English. Was very good night. Cocktails are the main theme can still get wine. It's like an old school speak easy bar. Prices reflects the cocktails I was drinking such as old fashioned. Manly a glass full of booze. It's a single door when looking for it. Need to book and ring the bell. We went a week day but believe they have entertainment during the weekend

The Prinzipal Kreuzberg is definitely the best place to enjoy authentic Burlesque shows in Berlin. You won't be able to get so close to the artists anywhere else. They also have a very nice and friendly vibe that goes well with the Burlesque crowd. The decoration is mesmerizing, bringing us to the late 1920s art deco era with a modern Berlin twist. The cocktails are delicious, you can ask for any of the classics or let yourself be surprised by some of their own creations.

One of the worst bars we've ever been. Went there for my girlfriend's birthday and were extremely disappointed. 1. Smoking is allowed inside with bad ventilation - our clothes and hair stank a lot afterwards. 2.The owner was rude - he came to suggest a cocktail to my girlfriend and told her he has no time for her and suggestions so he'll bring whatever he decides. 3.The bar is extremelly cramped and narrow - we were put on a table in the corner with bad visibility. 4.The show was pretty bad and pretty limited as well. A total of 3 dances by two girls - total entertainment time around 10-15 minutes, costing 25 eur per person. It's also completely in German. Overall one of the worst experiences in Berlin, wouldn't recommend.

Prinzipal Kreuzberg is such fun and a beautiful Burlesque bar. I had my 40th there with a group and it was the best entertainment and service, delicious drinks and I thought good value. The decor and atmosphere is super and Tiger and the team were excellent. The complementary currywust at the end of the evening was also a lovely touch. It was the best experience! Thank you!!

So nice bar and so nice staff. The cocktails are really good. Bajan is the best doorman - so kind and happy! Give us a perfect experience! Obrigada 😊

Yelp
A complete an utter tourist trap for subpar drinks, performance, and service. Burn your cash for heat, and get more out of it. After seeing this place featured on a few "things to do in Berlin" lists, my friends and I decided to give it a go. We made reservations, and were given the option for €10 just entry and standing room - €15 just entry and bar seating - €65 just entry and table seating. We opted for €15 entry and got table seating anyway. Cash at the door for entry, which had to be paid up front. At the table, we ordered drinks. The service was terrible, considering drinks were an average of €15 each - which is triple the price of most bars. We had a few drinks off the menu (filthy martini and our best mate), which were ok. They don't do shots, but will offer you a double neat (for obviously double the price). The wait staff seemed incapable of serving drinks and bussing tables at the same time (so we had one person taking our order, another cleaning off the last round of drinks and a third serving the drinks). I tried to order a final round, but got so frustrated after being ignored that we just asked for a check. There was 1 burlesque dancer, and it took her 45 minutes in between her set to change. She did 2 dances in 2 gorgeous costumes. She was stunning and talented, but I guess our expectation was more than 6 total minutes of performance. The tables are all seated around the performance stage - so it's not the best view, but it is the closest view. Ultimately, 3 gals paid a total of €45 entry and €139 drinks tab all in cash (they'll walk you to an ATM that charges €7 to get cash out, because you have no other option).

Yelp
Pity! What could have been an interesting concept turned out to be just an ordinary, common, overpriced, and smoke-filled bar like so many other. Expecting a burlesque environment ? Look elsewhere. This is a pretentious dive bar, with an equally pretentious DJ pumping out house and techno in a tiny upstairs sitting area. One can only be thankful for the ear splitting garbage as it covers the " like-like-like " conversations of barely legal patrons. You could argue that the quality of the patrons is not the bars responsibility, in which case, why the silly protocol of having to ring the doorbell and be greeted with a "do you have a reservation?" by the (friendly, I must concede) doorman? There are about 5 house cocktails on the menu, but I presume the usual classics are available. I would give the house cocktails 4 stars. That was the best part of the experience, but sadly, the only good part. A wonderful concept idea poorly executed.

Yelp
I am so sad to write this review, as my 3 friends and I were so looking forward to our visit. I had booked us a reservation over a month in advance after seeing great tripadvisor and Yelp reviews. We were coming all the way from California and this is the last night of our 19 day trip backpacking around the Netherlands, Czech Republic, and Germany. Tonight the 4 of us showed up for our reservation at Prinzipal Kreuzberg at 9:30pm as scheduled, and we're looking forward to a great cocktail. Unfortunately, we were greeted by a woman who said we were not on her list. I showed her our email confirming our reservation, and she said we had to reply to confirm the reservation. I let her know I did, and went and found my reply to Bahan (General Manager) confirming the reservation on September 8th. She asked us to wait a minute at the door while she checked with her manager. She came back a few minutes later saying sorry, they could not let us in. I asked her why and she said she didn't know but they couldn't accommodate us. She stayed polite and said sorry, have a good night but would not tell us what was going on and why we were not allowed in. I asked to speak to a manager, waited for a moment for her to grab him, and she came back saying he wouldn't speak with us. It was her job to tell us we weren't on the list, even though we had a confirmed reservation in black and white. I was appalled but knew I wasn't getting anywhere. I decided I would call the restaurant from my confirmed reservation and asked for the General Manager, Bahan. I was able to speak with him and he told me he didn't know what the problem was but if the lady at the door said we couldn't come in, then we couldn't come in. I continued to explain we had a confirmed reservation and would like to know why we weren't allowed in. He said to come back to the door, and so we did. Bahan came out and very disrespectfully told me that we weren't dressed nice enough for his "nice" club. Mind you the very nice girl at the front door answered the door in a corset, smoking a cigarette, with 2 full tattooed sleeves. While Bahan was in a less than flattering vest and hat. My friends and I were in jeans or khakis, sweaters/jackets, scarves and either boots or comfortable nikes (sorry, we're reasonable tourists walking around the city!). We looked fine in my eyes, especially since neither the website, nor the email said anything about a dress code. To top things off, as Bahan was letting us know we weren't fit to enter the club a group of about 6-8 nice looking women in their 40's to 50's walked out wearing very similar clothing to myself and my friends. Bahan could not dispute that fact and decided to go back inside. Again, wish I had better things to say about this place since we were so excited to end our trip to Germany at Prinzipal Kreuzberg -- sadly it's a disrespectful bunch who doesn't honor reservations. Don't dare wear nikes or you might be on the street like us!

Yelp
I can't provide an honest review because I was turned away at the door, even after having made a reservation one month earlier. Three friends and myself showed up on time for our reservation and were turned away with no reason given and without the manager coming to see us and explain why, since the very polite women at the door couldn't tell us. We called and the manager came down and spoke to us at that point only to try and tell us that we were under dressed. As he did so, looking like he was about to bust out of his own outfit, six other customers, who were allowed in and were now leaving, had on virtually similar outfits, to which he had no response and retreated back into his half full bar, turning away paying customers. This place doesn't honor reservations and are not straight forward with you. I recommend taking your money elsewhere as I was forced to do. You may notice this is my first review and that is because I was so disgusted with the way we were treated that I had to speak out.

Yelp
There was a $10 cover for the burlesque show on Saturday night, but it was well worth it! The girls were STUNNING, the bartenders were great, and the cocktails were expertly crafted**. All of this resulted in a fantastic time! **Note: The drinks were SO expertly crafted in fact, that I left the bar way less "composed" than I was when I walked in, and I forgot one of my bags under the table! When I realized the next day, I e-mailed the owner, and he quickly responded to let me know that he found it, and that I could come pick it up before the bar opened! Phew! Amazing!

Yelp
Echoing what others have said, if it were possible to give 0 stars, I would. This place pretends to be emulating a 20s atmosphere but that couldn't be farther from the truth. The 20s were all about relaxing, enjoying life, and non-judgemental hedonism. This place has all of the flash of 20s decor without any of the genuine ambiance of the period. The staff was absurdly rude and uninviting, and the clientele seemed uncomfortable and depressed. As excited as we were about this place before going, I'm sorry to say that this bar is, just like Disneyland and Checkpoint Charlie, an overpriced tourist trap that will undoubtedly end in disappointment for visitors.

Yelp
A must visit when in Berlin! They are very customer focused, friendly, lively and diverse. The team works very well together and the drinks are incredible. This was one of the best bars we have visited anywhere!

Yelp
We stumbled upon this bar and I'm so glad we did! The bartenders were AMAZING and the drinks were so good! It has a cool, speakeasy feel with signature drinks to match. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
If I could give zero stars, I would. I went with my husband and another couple-we made reservations over a month ago for a table of 4. Reservation was confirmed by the owner also a month ago. When we showed up 5 minutes early for our time we were greeted at the door by a lady who was in charge of looking up reservations. We told our name and reservation time-no reservation on file. The lady then began to ask questions like "did you get an email" We did, and showed the reservation email on our cell phone "Oh well you were supposed to respond to the email" We did, we then showed her the response to the email confirming with the owner of the reservation made a month ago. "Well, let me talk to the manager, because we have nothing on file." We then waited and waited. The lady returned and said that the answer is no, we won't be let in and the manager refuses to talk to us. We tried to explain again that we made the reservation over a month ago, we have all documentation stating we have a reservation and asked again to speak with the manager and again "no, have a nice day" and closed the door. We then called the bar and asked to speak to the manager personally. When he answered, he said "well she said no, not me" we then went back to the bar to speak to the manager. The manager met us outside the door and then said that the reason we weren't being let in, isn't because of the reservation (that we had) but because of dress code. We had just come from dinner and dress code wasn't explained anywhere. As we were trying to talk to the manager about the lack of communication about dress code in the reservation email we made a month ago. Six ladies walked out of the bar wearing baggy jeans and sweat shirts. We asked why their attire was allowed and we weren't He replied with "they're leaving so it's ok". For obvious reason this was completely unfair. This was the worst experience I have had in Berlin. I would never recommend this place. They turned two couple away-who traveled from a different county because of the way we looked. The manager and door lady were so unprofessional. We were there to spend money and have a good time but if they don't like the way you look-you will not be let in regardless of reservation or not. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME GOING TO THIS PLACE. There are so many other amazing places in Berlin to go that won't be prejudice or degrading.

Yelp
We had reservations and been looking forward to coming here. We rang the bell, and when they answered.. rude from the beginning. They wouldn't honor our reservation. Then, when they finally turned us away. We called to speak whoever was in charge (they didn't come to the door) answered the phone. We went back and he was waiting for us dressed like a leprechaun who purchased his outfit 50 pounds ago.. turned us away. He said we were dressed too casual. Mind you he is saying this as people are leaving and dressed just like us. Not one ounce of courtesy or sincerity from the employee or manager. Do not go here. They suck ballsack.

Yelp
I had a fun time here with my girlfriend. Bar definitely has a swanky feel and the hidden entrance is a nice touch. We went for a burlesque night and while the burlesque wasn't quite what we were hoping for we still really enjoyed the bar. The burlesque bars I've been to in the US generally have a handful of girls who each do a couple minute set. The night we went to Prinzipal Kreuzberg they had 1 girl who did 2 sets with about an hour between them. She was good but it felt like a lot of waiting for very little payoff. We were lucky enough to get a seat on the stage so we had a great view. The waitress was awesome and made sure we were taken care of. Cocktails were around $11 which I though was very reasonable and beers were $4.50. They don't take credit cards so bring cash, the closest atm is a block or two away. We met some awesome Germans here as well and I think it's definitely worth checking out.
