I stayed in the gorgeous glamping carriage at Priory Mill for two cool, damp July nights while attending the Brecon Choir Festival. I'd never been glamping before and wasn't sure what to expect, but the carriage is so beautifully designed and well equipped that I felt more comfortable than I sometimes do in hotels. The owner built it himself and has added so many thoughtful touches; for example it's wide enough for there to be space for a small shelf unit on either side of the large double bed and for two people to get in and out of bed without having to climb over one another. The kitchen is tiny but has everything you need except running hot water, and the gas hobs worked well. There are plenty of places to sit indoors and outdoors, with a woodburning stove inside and a fire pit outside. The shower and loo are in a separate building a few metres away but very private, extremely clean and quite spacious, with plenty of hooks; the shower is simple but efficient with good hot water. At night all I could hear were the river and the owls. There were several tents and camper vans on the site at the same time but the other guests were very quiet. Priory Mill is a beautiful location which feels like the middle of nowhere but really is only ten minutes' brisk walk from Brecon town centre, through the camping field and along a footpath; youdon't have to walk on the busy road. I loved it and can't wait to go back.
