How to Plan an Unforgettable Trip to Rome, According to Local Experts

"Portuesi says you’ll feel like a local at this super-casual pizza and pasta joint just outside the city walls, where the emphasis is on ingredients and wines sourced from the surrounding region on Lazio. Charcuterie platters are delicious and abundant here." - Travel + Leisure Editors

The 42 Best Restaurants in Rome

"Pro Loco Pinciano feels a bit like your stylish Italian friends’ holiday home, all farmhouse brick and stone, with an open deli stacked with cheese and jars of local jam, plus fat prosciutto hams dangling from the ceiling. It's not all for show: when you order a martini, the bartender garnishes it with a prosciutto slice. As for the menu, there’s something to suit every taste here, including crisp pizzas, bowls of pillowy ravioli, and platters of finely sliced cured meats." - Maresa Manara

This restaurant is a bit off the tourist path, but it is worth the commute! The staff are friendly, house wine is perfect and food was amazing! I had one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had. The place was filled with locals so I knew I had made a good choice. I highly recommend dinner here and make sure you book a tabeL

Delicious pizza. Excellent crust compared to many pizza restautants close by. The dough is like tasty sourdough bread. The pork shin was good, but very salty - too much for my taste. The ravioli was cooked well and the tiramisu was light, fluffy and tasty.

Fantastic food! Everything on the menu has the freshest ingredients. The wait staff is excellent, very knowledgeable and patient helping us make our selections and telling us with accurate detail about the food preparation and ingredients. I think we over ordered, but we wanted to try a little of everything. Portion sizes are large and sharable. So take advantage with a group of friends and enjoy some of the best food in Italy!

Unfortunately, the service was not good. It took almost 01 hour for my order to come (a simple margarita pizza). The pizza was bland, soggy and cold. Maybe pizza is not their speciality? Or maybe I was there on a very busy day? The place looks great and the other orders u had (wine + entree) were spotless.

Friendly and welcoming. Our waiter for the evening was attentive, friendly, and professional. Restaurant felt very traditional and the food was lovely. I asked for a white wine and was given a wine that was made locally, it was so good I had 2 glasses! Generous food portions, and delicious food. Definitely recommend

Google
not having booked a table beforehand, we came before they opened and hoped for the best, and despite being fully booked, we scored a table for the two of us and had a super friendly server. the ravioli were some of the best I've ever had, the prices are fair, the atmosphere is very welcoming and cheerful and the place is packed with regulars.

We went there to try their pizza on lunch time, but they serve pizza only for dinner so we went twice on the same day 😂. At the lunch time we tried pasta and it was very good, but pizza at the dinner time was even better. Additionally, I really liked the vibe there and It seems locals go there, which is always a great sign. Overall very nice!

Yelp
Cute place with plenty of locals. Easy to walk to. Potato and pasta soup was very tasty and hardy. Practically a meal in itself. Opened at 7:30 and many filed in together but staff handled it just fine. Great place for a reasonably priced dinner at a comfortable pace.

Yelp
Came in for a reservation right at 7:30 and were promptly seated. Ambiance is casual and you can watch them make pizzas and prepare cheese/meat boards if sitting near the front. We split a Tuscan bottle of wine recommended by the waiter and loved the wine. I got the broccoli pizza since it sounded pretty interesting, and it was fairly good and had a nice crust but I wasn't blown away. Others at the table for the gnocchi which took awhile and was very unique if you're looking for something a little different, and those who got it highly enjoyed it!

Yelp
This was by far our favorite restaurant in Rome - great staff, nice ambiance, fantastic food all around (stinco was divine, all the pastas were great, desserts were great, wine selection). We went back for more and will definitely visit again. Very good for anyone - families with small kids were having a blast, couples on a hot date seemed equally happy.

Yelp
Top-notch food, welcoming vibe, great vibrant ambiance! Restaurant was brimming with activity and we were fortunate to get seats. Fellow diners, who were all locals, were friendly and even made recommendations on what to order! The pizzas were memorable and the drinks were free! Thanks to the wonderful staff who made this meal a Rome Trip highlight.

Yelp
Great pizza and service. The crust was amazing. Definitely seems like a place locals eat, stayed a bit during the closing hours between lunch and dinner and every table had a reservation card. The menu changes daily and does not come in English, but our waitress translated and explained every single item. I definitely recommend!

Yelp
Extremely good and authentic Roman food. Our dinner was exquisite and we loved the wine selection so much we ordered 6 to go.

Yelp
Thanks to the Yelp's Rome Community Manager, Salvatore C, I had the great pleasure of dining at Pro Loco! Pro loco was out of this world delicious! The minute I saw the restaurant I fell in love! Its decor is super cute and rustic. The pizza oven and pizza masters (yes masters) are right there tossing and creating pizza masterpieces! The service was excellent! Everyone was eager to help and answered all of our questions and more! The food was amazing. The cacio e pepe was simply perfect. The pepper was just right. Not over powering at all. We tried multiple pizzas which were all uniquely delicious. The wine selection was excellent as well. Definitely miss Rome and this place. We went back before we left Rome. A must try!

Yelp
My new, absolute favorite place in Rome! I was starving at about 6 walking around, went back to my BnB to use the wifi to check yelp for some nice eateries when I stumble across a few. Being a 23 y/o foreign girl it's so awkward to roam around rome looking for a place to eat by yourself. I had seen this place as an option but another restaurant had a better rating with more reviews... When it came time to venture out, I checked out the #1 recommendation and it was already packed so I swiftly walked on by. I got to the patio of Pro Loco Pinciano and I couldn't help but think, "How absolutely charming!" And of course, like the tourist in me, I snapped a few photos of the outdoor patio and bodega-like entrance. Waltzed in and voila! a table for one. The second the hostess and my waitress realized I was American they spoke in English to assist me further. Such smiling, knowledgable staff. I felt the most comfortable there on my own than any other place I'd been over the course of my two week stay in the city. My waitress was so helpful, as I tend to be indecisive, and I enjoyed every single taste. The food was dreamy. I started with a light and salty fried fish appetizer, carried on with a spinach and ricotta ravioli lightly covered in butter and sage and finished with a sweet sfoglia -a cookie, pastry-like, dessert- all the while enjoying my buttery white wine that she also recommended! If you're visiting or just looking for someplace new, I highly suggest this little gem. From the service, the atmosphere and presentation, to each and every divine bite: A+, Five stars!

Yelp
Didn't have a reservation, but they were able to seat us. Food was AMAZING! Was surprised at how cheap our bill was for 2 pizzas, and 2 bottles of water. The staff was very courteous and friendly and the environment and decor really made the experience!

Yelp
Pro Loco Pinciano was a quite a first night in Rome experience. A must have is the Organic Margarita Pizza. The handmade buffalo mozzarella on top of it was delicious. The white pizza capped White D.O.L. Was extremely good the ham or (pig head as they call it) on it was amazing tender and salty savory.

Yelp
My wife and I stumbled on this place and couldn't have been happier. Admittedly we only had dessert but the staff was great and the menu looked interesting and even had some vegan option. This was the best creme brûlée I have ever had so definitely save room! Finally, try a glass of Mirto. It is a Sardinian myrtle liqueur and while my wife didn't like it I thought it was fantastic!

Yelp
Amazing restaurant with very professional service. I recommend the pork shank and the pork ragu pappardelle. Excellent wine selection for a very reasonable price, starting at €6.

Yelp
Loved the spinach ravioli! May have to go back just for that entree! Also enjoyed the DOL pizza, which was light and flavorful. Staff was great.

Yelp
Amazing! First meal in Rome and we may need to make another trip before we head back. The cheese plate was delicious. The pizza and pasta was amazing. We also got dessert- yummy!
