Cheese Tea Is the Tastiest New Drink Trend. Here’s Where to Try It. - AFAR

"A Pasadena teahouse launched by Tian Fu and Damon Wang that emphasizes premium, thoughtfully sourced ingredients and third-wave–coffee–style brewing; their cheese-cap variations change by drink—using a cream cheese cap for rose-green tea and mascarpone for tiramisu milk tea—reflecting a focus on quality and novel tea constructions." - Kat Odell

I’m often in old town at night, and this is one of the few dessert/drink shops still open. The location is well-lit and clean, with a few seats inside. Mostly a grab and go place, but you never feel like you’re in a rush here. No public restroom. Staff is polite and efficient. Drinks are prepared fairly quickly and prices are decent for the quality you get. Street parking gets hard to find but it’s very close to the schoolhouse garage at $1 for 2 hours. Swing by for a sweet treat!

Google
I recently visited Prolece Tea in Pasadena with my daughter. When we walked in, I noticed that ordering is done entirely through a kiosk—there’s no face-to-face interaction or traditional customer service. It felt a bit different, but I can see how this setup could become the way of the future. We ordered an iced Vietnamese coffee for me and a strawberry smoothie for my daughter. Both drinks were good, and the prices were reasonable for the quality. If you’re looking for a quick, self-serve experience with tasty drinks, Prolece Tea is worth checking out.

Google
I think this place has to be the most mid boba tea place in old town. There's so many other places around here that just does it better. The teas always flat and their housemilk which is the one without extra charge taste like powedered milk. However , the cat containers are very cute.

Google
We had some good fruit tea here! It’s so convenient with the order kiosk with little to no wait. It’s a small space but cozy and inviting with the pillows and tables. I’d come back for a treat sometime

Google
I had a tea-rific adventure. The tiramisu house milk tea is a must have. The flavors blended harmoniously, creating a creamy and indulgent drink reminiscent of the classic Italian dessert. It was rich without being overwhelming, and the tea base added a subtle depth of flavor. The Strawberry Kiss with Boba had the fresh strawberry taste was vibrant and refreshing, complemented perfectly by the chewy boba pearls. The self-ordering kiosk made the whole process convenient and efficient. I could browse the menu at my own pace, make adjustments to my order, and complete the transaction effortlessly.

Google
Parking in downtown Pasadena is a pain in the sense that u have to find a structure, pay $4 and be willing to walk a great deal. The boba shops are tiny with no access to bathroom. So If this isn't your style, don't bother. LOL. Drinks quality are great! I always order at least 5 to take home, which is an hr away for me.

Google
Always a good place to go especially after 10PM! My favorite is their hazelnut series :) but I can’t consume this too much or I won’t sleep :(. The popcorn chicken here is THE BEST I’ve had from any boba/tea place. The best part is how spicy they make it 🤤.

Google
I am so happy Provence Tea is open so early! Had a Hazelnut Milk Tea with Passion fruit Boba! It was great, and the barista even blended the ice for me! I love the options for food including salt and vinegar flavored fries!

J L.

Yelp
My drink was great. But I'm writing because the service was even more outstanding! I requested something that wasn't on the menu, and the barista answered that he could make it happen, after thinking about it for a minute. I only had on cash on me. That also was not part of their regular protocol. Again, he made an exception with no complaints. Truly professional and accommodating, which I appreciated. While waiting for my drink, I noticed that the vibe was very chill and relaxed. If my schedule had allowed, I definitely would have hung for a while. But in my brief time there, I enjoyed my experience and was really impressed by the outstanding service.

Yelp
Came because I saw tiramisu drink with a lady finger in it but I guess it was a seasonal item. Got the pumpkin one instead and it was pretty good but I like things sweet. For others I would recommend getting it half sweet. They don't really have a parking lot but you can probably find street parking or one of those garages.

Yelp
Ever need a late night fix of boba tea? Prolece is my go to spot when the project is finished late and a Star**** won't do the trick! The kiosks for ordering have way to many options but the friendly service I got on a late Saturday paired with a most refreshing drink earns my attention and respect! The place looks fairly new from outside but requires some to

Yelp
I visited this store on a Friday 5 PM. The milk tea itself is good. Not quite on the boba and service. Boba: feels odd compared to wushiland's fresh newly made boba. Service: I walked in and the employee had no knowledge that a new customer walked through the door. Definitely did not greet me or say "sorry, I didn't noticed you walked in." Let's just say she knew I walked in, she did not even say "I'll be right there, give me a moment". When I grabbed the drink, I'm the only one saying thank you.

Yelp
It was around $19 for two large drinks. There were some open tables available for indoor seating. You can place your order using a self-serve screen. Parking is available in a nearby structure or on the street. The drinks were okay, but the cups were slim and didn't fit in my car's cup holder. I tried the Strawberry Bliss with boba.
google avatar

Gina C.

Yelp
Drinks were exactly as requested and delicious thank you Prolece! Highly recommend. I got the Vietnamese coffee and Thai tea w boba.
google avatar

Rachel H.

Yelp
Their tea selection is the broadest in town. The fruit is fresh, not syrup and it is always delicious
google avatar

Karen L.

Yelp
Chill place to hang with a decent amount of customizable hot and cold drinks. Not a lot of seating but doesn't look like they get too crazy busy. I had the virgin mojito, which was basically a green tea with lime, but it was refreshing!
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
Great drinks, okay boba. You can really taste the quality of the teas and the milk. I got the Strawberry Jasmine milk tea and I could really taste the jasmine tea without it being overpowered by the strawberry flavors. I got it 100% sugar and it wasn't too sweet. The strawberries in the purée felt very ripe as they were very sweet. I say the boba is just okay because it's very soft, so I'd definitely come here just for the drinks but not the boba. Drinks took more than 5 minutes to come out, despite walking in with no one else in front of me.
google avatar

Julia S.

Yelp
BOBA Fresh fruit is always a plus! I personally think that with 0 sugar, the drink still tasted perfectly sweet from the toppings and fruit. SERVICE There was only one person working, but I don't think it needed more at that time since you can also order at the kiosk and it seems like most people were ordering remotely. AMBIANCE small space with only a couple of tables, but I was the only one there on a weekday night. Tables were big enough to study but no WiFi unfortunately, but you might be able to connect to neighboring WiFi (you didn't hear it from me).

Yelp
Stopped by Prolece Tea on a late Saturday night after having dinner with friends. I ordered the strawberry green tea at 50% sweet, and it tasted like 100% sweet. My friends' drinks at 25% sweet tasted normal. I asked the baristas to adjust the sweetness in my drink to 25%, and it then tasted like 50%. Pros: - Large 32oz option - Contactless ordering (2 kiosks) - Large menu - Small but plenty of seating Cons: - Sweetness is inconsistent - Parking (in old town) can be difficult - Drinks did not stand out to me, flavor-wise - Ambience was not super comfortable to me--I would not see myself studying here or staying here for long periods of time, but this was a personal preference.

Yelp
I went to Prolece Tea yesterday. I had an (ICED) Brown Sugar Boba Milk Tea. The tea itself was okay, It was subtle in flavor. I thought the boba beads could have been bigger.
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
Short wait, 10 minute walk from the convention center, and DELICIOUS brown sugar boba Milk tea for a more than reasonable price (~$2 below what most places charge now). I'll be back when I'm in the area!
google avatar

Bex Q.

Yelp
Crowded on a Tuesday night because it is one of the few places open after 10pm with a variety of drinks. I can't say the place is cute. It's jumbled together in an old building in Pasadena with character. I would not want to sit there but get drinks there at night- yes. Our drinks were good. They had Califia almond milk which is always a plus. The staff was great!
google avatar

Novia E.

Yelp
my favorite tea place to get buckwheat green tea with cheese cream because you cannot get the buckwheat green tea that good anywhere else. I am so glad they survived through Covid and I will continue supporting their business though their parking situation is a bit challenging since they are located right in a old pas. There is a parking building very very nearby and they only charge one dollar for your first 90 minutes . I always order my drink through Snackpass so I can just come in and pick it up. There are a couple seats, but not really many.

Yelp
The Service: There are two kiosks for ordering the drinks. Jeanny was behind the counter preparing the drinks for the customers. She was super efficient & fast! The wait time was very short. Very happy with the service! The Drinks: This was our first time trying their drinks. Jeanny was very helpful recommending drinks for us. We wanted something refreshing for summer weather so we ordered fruity flavors like strawberry, citrus, melon & etc. BTW, their cups are very good quality, way better quality than those thin plastic cups that we used to see at other drink places. They also sell some snacks. We tried the popcorn chicken & fries combo. Perfect afternoon snacks with refreshing drinks! The Parking: Across street, there is a public parking structure. $1 for first 2 hours. Very convenience & cheap!

Yelp
Delivery order. How do you guys not place 4 drinks in cup holders? Also, one drink was missing and it was dumped on the concrete when instructions were to leave on porch table just a few steps away?
google avatar

Layla L.

Yelp
This place will suffice in a pinch. It's pretty convenient however Boba cha-cha is only a block away and is a little bit better quality for same price (their taro has a richer roasted flavor than this place ). I don't like that I have to pay extra for anything other than house milk though. Like why is Califia $1?? And whole milk 0.75? It's milk tea, any milk should be standard. Anyway I always get my Boba tea unsweetened, so I can't comment to how they do with sweetened tea but I like the taro flavor and the jasmine. The taro powder isn't too sweet. The Boba is perfectly chewy, slightly sweet, and never stuck together. If you get the taro make sure you stir it well, last time I had little powder clumps stuck in mine.

Yelp
A quick little boba stop located on Fair Oaks with a variety of yummy snacks (think Popcorn Chicken) and a plethora of boba drinks. I'll start by saying that if you're a boba snob, this might not be the most high quality tea you've had (especially with the amount of tra shops in Pasadena now.) But this place is pretty good to me! I ordered the Hot Roast Oolong Milk Tea (with Oat milk), Cajun Fries and Taiwanese Fish Cake. Overall, the snacks and the drinks were good and reminded me of my younger years getting boba with friends after school! The service was also great! It's basically contactless, ordering at the kiosk, and grabbing your items when they call your name. The order arrived quickly and we ate and drank indoors in the few seats they had inside. Would I return? Absolutely! It's been too long since I've been to a tea spot in the area where the prices aren't outrageous, and the food options are back to feel-good-basics. Other places seem too fancy these days with their insta backdrops, and extravagant presentation these days. This place is definitely the spot I'll come back to if I want some boba and last night snacks!
google avatar

Ash Y.

Yelp
our drinks were barely sweet literally just tasted like straight tea, but the boba itself was alright. quite watered down and honestly disappointed. we tried the brown sugar milk tea, creme brulee jasmine milk tea, and peach oolong tea. they were all quite mid to be honest and we had originally wanted to try the tiramisu milk tea, but they were sold out for the day.
google avatar

Franklin C.

Yelp
The ordering system is self service and very easy to order The place is small and quaint for couples to walk in and wait before a Uber ride out. There is a large selection of drinks and worth trying out. I am glad this is right across from beard papa and also waking distance of salt and straw. So I know I can get my sweet drink fix all in one area. I got a fresh tea mojito and it was just the right flavor after a hearty hotpot. Come and support this place !

Yelp
Lychee bliss , green grape, and tea. The bliss is so fun. It is a must try. White grape very refreshing, the tea was good. All great drinks. Will go back.
google avatar

Geoff K.

Yelp
Great tasting tea but there were plastics in my drink? How the heck did that get in there..
google avatar

Jenny Y.

Yelp
Their tea is very tasty! I was wondering why this place was so crowded with other boba places around the corner. They have very few but very cute seating areas.
google avatar

Belen M.

Yelp
Taro is a must try, flavorful, fresh, and super creamy. The smoothies I've tried here (strawberry, cookies n cream & taro) are all super creamy - they taste like melted ice cream, but in a good way! A popular item that I would personally not recommend is the cookies and cream - while the consistency is very good, the taste of cookies was unfortunately absent. Drink was mostly milk. Would not order again. Establishment is cozy, few places to sit, probably not a good idea for large groups, especially since they are located in a very populated area. Only street parking is available, paid except for Sundays, I believe. They get busy, so there's usually a teeny bit of a wait but nothing over 10minutes (I've only been here around 10:30pm so it's pretty dead, might be longer wait during peak hours) Probably the better tasting boba I've had. Looking forward to my next visit! Pros: Open Late Fresh Moderate price (around $6-8 per drink) Cons: Limited parking Wait time

Yelp
This is located in old town Pasadena and I was surprised at how good the drink was. I got an iced mango milk tea and it really was a solid choice even at 25% sweetness. They even have cool cup holders that make the cup look cool. Prices are reasonable and inside looked cool and modern. Great place for boba and tea!
google avatar

Yuanyuan C.

Yelp
The worst milk tea I ever drunk . I ordered Avogogo and Osmanthus Oolong Milk Tea. Avogogo was for my son, he had the outdoor camp today, he should have drunk it very fast. But when he got first sip, he said the taste is so different with which we got before anyone else. He said he doesn't want and I can take it. Avogogo which include avocado and mango something, when I tried it, the avocado is not fresh and even taste like been rotten. Milk tea i didn't see and taste any milk. As a normal pure tea, it tastes also bad.it's bitter and astringent. I can believe it can get 4.3.
google avatar

Yelp

Yelp
My kids got drinks from here and they really didn't care for it. They originally wanted the boba place across the street but they were closed so they decided to try this place. Ita a tiny little boba place. Nicely lit inside. You place your order on the kiosk. My daughter originally got the strawberry matcha but she didn't like it so she went back and traded her drink in for something else (brown sugar boba). My son got the strawberry one - he said it was okay. I guess it's good to try new places. This way they know what's good and what's not. Plus, not that this was under their control but there were a few vagrants loitering outside the store front - made it look shady and unsafe to be there.
google avatar

Evangeline D.

Yelp
First time I ever tasted tiramisu that is a tea and taste more like drinking a tea. I' ve been here before I wonder why it took time for me to go back. Mmh!
google avatar

Christyl J.

Yelp
Quick and easy place to get tasty bubble tea. Ordered at the kiosk, which explained all the drinks. I got the rose milk tea with tiramisu top, and it was delicious! The place itself is super small with a little seating while you wait, but it can get cramped with even 10 people in there. But the drinks came out fast so it was easy in and out!

Bruce H.

Yelp
Very good options and rich flavors for tea. Plenty of books around the room for entertainment. Service was very nice and people were very polite. Would go back again
google avatar

Karen B.

Yelp
Stopped by for a warm sip of tea with my bestfriend while catching up, shop is little yet cozy and the teas were delicious! Easy to use ordering screen, quick service, and had the absolute best hot rose milk tea with cheese foam. Absolutely wish I were still in Pasadena to have this again. So rare to find a good rose milk tea in Vegas I only go to Brew Tea Bar and this hit exactly the craving I was having while in town for New Year's Day. I hope this place is here for a long time I will definitely be back any chance I get!!
google avatar

Delilah D.

Yelp
3 years later and it's still my go to. My drink has changed slightly. Cheese jasmine green 50% sugar instead of 75%. Chicken is the best and my boyfriend loves the taro coffee. I mean, I'm still preaching my love for Prolece.
google avatar

Iza S.

Yelp
Ambiance is chill and service was quick! I would come back here a thousand time's! Thank you for the delicious drink!
google avatar

Lauren B.

Yelp
The Taro here is great and tastes very smooth, while the brown sugar wasn't anything special, but I think getting it with whole milk instead of their go-to nondairy would be a lot better. The size of the drink for the price is really good (the ones pictured are the regular size) and we were pleasantly surprised by that. The interior of the shop itself isn't the best, but we only went to pick up the tea so it wasn't a big deal for us. Would definitely come again!
google avatar

Billy's Women L.

Yelp
Cute little hole in the wall with some seriously delicious drinks! My daughter and husband come here on dates and they constantly tell me how delicious it is. I finally got to come for the first time and they were right! You don't interact with any of the staff and the floor was not as clean as I would like it to be, but I definitely recommend coming here
google avatar

Gloria L.

Yelp
Drinks here are super aesthetic and made with quality teas! I got the mojito, berry matcha, taro coffee, and berry tea. I enjoyed the berry matcha the most since I'm a huge fan of matcha and there was a good amount of strawberry jam. The taro coffee was also pretty good if you enjoy the taro flavor. There are a few tables available indoors and parking available in the parking structure across.
google avatar

Leslie L.

Yelp
Cons: - Closest parking is the garage across the street, where you have to pay for parking. - Tiramisu milk tea is not as advertised, and doesn't taste very much like tiramisu. - Interior is very small, not enough tables/chairs to dine in. Pros: - wide selection - Kiosk machine ordering

Liya M.

Yelp
the best boba tea place ever! Amazing idea and great quality. Service is very nice as well. Definitely give it a try
google avatar

Ves S.

Yelp
Cheese, on tea??? Five years ago this was my first experience adding cheese foam to a boba drink. I thought what madness but apparently back then it was a Taiwanese thing that started to make it's way to the US. Now I always get cheese and skip the boba! You order on a screen upon everything. You can scroll down or quick select at the top of the screen to your desired category. Prolece has a good variety of teas to select from. In fact, too many, and I suffer from choice fatigue scrolling through the option. One suggestion would be to instead of have every combo of tea listed on the main screen, just have a drop down to select a tea. Or just have a "make your own drink" option so I can select the tea, ice, sweetness, and toppings. Otherwise still tasty I really could discern the fragrant tea.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
I'm a self professed taro addict and found this place on Yelp while hanging out in Pasadena. I got the taro smoothie with boba and cheese foam. Totally bomb.com it was like I was drinking taro ice cream. My mom got the ice black toffee tea and you could really taste the toffee. They do magic here. Every drink goes beyond your expectations. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Levon P.

Yelp
Drinks were perfect and made at very reasonable amount of time considering busy weekend

Yelp
I was driving home from work, and at 9pm, only a few coffee and tea locations are often. I stumbled upon Prolece Tea and decided to check it out. Finding parking in the area was difficult, but I was fortunate enough to find a spot within a block. The walk over was pleasant, and I entered Prolece. Ordering was quick via the self-service kiosk; what's great is they even have photos of each drink! Since it was early at night, there were two tables of people enjoying their drinks and casual conversation within their homey, aesthetic restaurant. They have a shelf display of all their special teas; I'm confident that their teas are premium and geuine. I went along with an extra large almond milk tea (decaffeinted) and half sweet. I was shocked by the drink since it didn't have a brownish hue that I was used to. However, white is my favorite color, and I was going to try it nonetheless - especially since I ordered a 32oz (why?!). My first sip left me surprised. The drink itself had the nutty tastes of almond, wasn't too sweet, and left me sipping for more. If it wasn't for the drive home and lack of sleep, the whole drink would've been gone before midnight!
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Visited twice and the drinks were very different. The first visit was great. My drinks were so refreshing and delicious. Loved the rose milk tea and mango tea. Second time was disappointing. Everything was watered down. We could barely tasted the tea nor fruit.
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
This was probably my second time here. First time dining inside. It is super tiny and thankfully when my friends and I came, there was a table available. It is conveniently located next to the Cheesecake Factory. Their decor is so cute and the hot drink sleeves were super cute and pretty! You do have to use your phone to view the menu and order using your phone or their screen in the front. It wasn't too loud inside so I was able to have a good conversation with my friends. I appreciated that they stayed open late so we didn't have to feel rushed. They have many yummy flavors like Lychee Berry tea and Lychee Peachy. My friend also got the tiger sugar one and it was delicious!
google avatar

Jodie T.

Yelp
Stopped by after dinner for a sweet treat. This was my second time here and I wanted to be adventurous and try a new drink instead of my staple JGT so I got the Milky Oolong but I unfortunately did not like it whatsoever, there was no oolong tea flavor imo compared to the oolong drinks I've tried here. Something in the drink threw me off. I was gonna stick it out and not say anything cause I don't like being that person but I was excited to enjoy my tea. So I built up the courage to ask the young lady if I can get a replacement drink nicely cause the flavor of the drink I got I wasn't enjoying and she asked me a few questions and gladly asked what drink I wanted and made it right away. That was so nice of her so 10/10 customer service! I went with the classic JGMT and boy was this good! Very good quality tea that's for sure. For 24oz with boba it was $6.60. Overall would come back again to try different drinks but would definitely ask the bobarista for suggestions lol or get my go-to drink. There's no restrooms or anything cause it's a small shop but there are 4 or so tables inside to sit and drink/eat your snack at. It's also a kiosk ordering system so that's nice for those that have anxiety order so you can take your time to browse and see what you like.

Manassa P.

Yelp
The shop is small but there is a few tables/seats available. I got the matcha which has a really nice flavor. I added boba to my drink- it was good but for an extra 75cents I wish they gave a more reasonable portion

Arielle G.

Yelp
Since moving back to the area and I work up the street, I've recently visited after a long while and it's just as good as I remember! I get the Jasmine milk tea with oat milk and it's great and one of my favorite milk teas and tea shops in general! The waffle fries are awesome and filling! Not to mention those order kiosks!! I love them, it's an introverts dream tea shop (,: Love this place :3
