Protea Hotel Dar es Salaam Courtyard

I stayed at Protea Courtyard for two weeks, longer than I’ve stayed at any hotel. The management and staff there were terrific, personable and kind. Very intuitive and accommodating to me and my kids. I had the double room, it was spacious and very clean. Housekeeping came everyday to clean, make up our bedsf and change out our towels. Total resort treatment. The kids had fun swimming in the pool or just hanging out at the pool. The morning breakfast is on another level, delicious!! The chef makes so many dishes, there’s something for everyone. My kids and I felt quite safe inside the hotel and the surrounding neighborhood. The hotel is centrally located, making it easy to Uber anywhere, especially the beaches, mall and the carving district. There’s also an ATM located directly across the street, which was super convenient. Anytime I come back to Dar, this is the hotel I’ll be staying at without question.

For over 20 years, our NGO has been coming here and it's only gotten better.|Excellent food that none of our team from all over the world has ever been sick at. The artistic and creative chef offers healthy beautifully presented dishes from Tanzania western European and Asian backgrounds.|An excellent gym in pool.|Comfortable bed, linens, and towels|Wonderful shower, pressure plus a separate bathtub.|Warm comfortable feeling.|Lovely restaurant, meeting rooms and business center.|Excellent laundry services|Courteous, pleasant staff that are like family.|The airport pick up coordination of Taxis cash conversion whatever you need is attended to promptly and precisely.|The breakfast and lunch buffets match anything I've seen it even far more expensive hotels.

Safe Kind staff And that is where the positives end... Sad, dark rooms, which were technically clean but smelled too much of a mix of mould and heavy chemical products. Mine was adorned with a dead cockroach, which I suppose is better than a live one. Absolutely ZERO sound insulation on your room, so given that this seems to be an overnight stop for many (safaris, business travelers, etc), you hear car alarms, suitcase wheels, weird bells, and more, at all hours. For me, this is completely unacceptable and not workable. A shame, because on the website, one might imagine otherwise....

The place is kinda old fashioned blended with modern designs. For the food its good we had a buffet self service, the desserts are the best Staff members are very gentle and helpful Generally we enjoyed it

I have been staying at the Protea in Dar for over 9 years. The staff is very helpful and incredibly friendly. The rooms are nice and clean. The location is very convenient particularly if you are visiting MUHAS campus, the city proper, or Masaki. Excellent breakfast and solid restaurant. Strongly recommend!

Rooms are a bit old-fashioned and dark with limited natural light. Interior lighting is superb to match the overall theme. Room service and overall service is moderate but lacking in some care products like nail clippers or beard kits.

Iconic Dar hotel that still exudes the charm and warmth that is Tanzania. Wonderful people and cosy atmosphere. Rooms are a bit small and dark but fantastic location and endearing atmosphere
