Protea Hotel Kimberley

Beautifully decorated hotel with lots of antique and historical decor. Lovely pool overlooking the Kimberly hole and next door to a museum which is well worth a visit apparently. We didn't have time as we were enroute to Orange River. Great overnight stop. Lovely aircon rooms with gorgeous king bed! Very friendly staff.

Marriott Hotel Kimberley – A Gem on the Road While driving back from Upington to Gauteng on a mini solo road trip, I decided to stop over at the Marriott Hotel in Kimberley — and I’m so glad I did. From the moment I arrived, the experience was exceptional. The receptionist, Khanyisile Tshazi, truly stood out. She was warm, caring, and genuinely welcoming — you can immediately see that she loves what she does. It sets the tone for the entire stay. In fact, all the staff were friendly, professional, and attentive throughout. The room was spotless and comfortable, the food was excellent, and yes — the shower water pressure deserves a special mention (it’s absolutely a thing, and it was perfect!). Every little detail just worked, and I honestly can’t fault this hotel on anything. One of the highlights is the swimming pool overlooking the Kimberley Big Hole — such a unique and memorable view, and a very cool touch that makes this hotel extra special. This was a restful, enjoyable stopover and a hotel I would highly recommend to anyone passing through Kimberley, whether for business, leisure, or a road trip pause. I’ll definitely be back.

One of the best Protea hotels. Staff and service is exceptional as always. I have had a few stays here and upkeep / maintenance is quite good. Great overall experience. The fact that the Big Hole is right next door is a plus!

We stayed at Protea hotel Kimberly on 29 September in celebration of our anniversary and had such a disappointing experience. We checked in at 19:58, waited a bit and was assisted by the Guest Liaison on duty. I was told there was 2 rooms booked but I booked one through Protea vouchers. My voucher of R1000 couldn't be found on the booking system and after showing it to them it was settled and I was able to pay the remaining balance of R798. This all toolkit nearly 30 min. I was offered water and accepted the offer but was then pointed to a water dispenser that was clearly out all day with fruit that looked off in it. I then declined. Once the issue was sorted we were given our room key and pointed in the direction we needed to go. ||Once we got to the room I looked for water and realized there's no water or glasses in the room. We called down fo received asked for water and glasses to be sent to the room and was told the Duty Manager would come up to us as its supposed to be there. 20 min passes no one came. We called again and was told someone would come soon. Still nothing after a further 20 mins we were called from reception and they said they would bring it themselves, still no one came. I then called back after another 15 min passed and told them that its ridiculous they are ruining our anniversary and I would collect the water myself. I was told they didn't know housekeeping was off duty already.| I went down and asked for the water and glasses and was told that they didn't know where the Duty manager is. This was just absolutely ridiculous thay I had to beg for over an olhour for something so simple. ||To add insult to injury my husband asked the housekeeper for more toilet paper as there was only a half in when we arrived and we were given another half roll and told they still waiting for stock. ||We stay at a Protea hotel every year for our anniversary usually in Franschoek and this was the worst experience, it put a damper on the experience. ||The staff has no interest in guest service. At checkout I mentioned how bad the experience was and was told that I would receive an email but it clearly wasn't important for them to email me.||I also work in the hotel industry but will never recommend this hotel to anyone.

While I am writing this I have been waiting for 2 hours just to get my meal. The rooms are lovely, the staff are amazing but GET FOOD SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!! Not the best in terms of price either, surely with higher menu prices you recieve your food in a timely fasion, nope not here.

Service delivery is not the best and waiters are not honest unfortunately. We ordered food via room service and followed up on the order and hour later at 22:30. After following up no order was inputed into the system. We then went down to follow up and none of the only 2 male waiters working took accountability and managers were not available to follow up on this matter. All they did was take our order with no apologies or accountability.

Very comfortable rooms. Excellent service by friendly reception staf and at breakfast. Although the garden and grounds are very neat, unfortunately like almost everything in Kimberley the maintenance of the hotel is slipping and the signs are everywhere, from the walkways, rooms and especially the exterior. Staff can only do so much.
