Prova Pizzabar - Review - Midtown East - New York - The Infatuation

"If you need to eat something in the Grand Central dining concourse and have enough time for a quick sit-down meal, Prova Pizzabar is worth knowing about. In addition to the to-go pizza counter, there’s a little table-service area off to the side where you can sit and eat a massive $14 square pie in peace. It’s not the best pizza you’ll ever eat, but it is the best pizza you’ll ever eat while sitting in a semi-private space in Grand Central. Also - expect a bar where people drift in every 10 minutes or so asking for triple whiskeys." - Hannah Albertine

Google
Wow! Let me tell you about this hidden gem. I decided to make a stop and take a brake at Grand Central Station before hopping on the train, I found Prova tucked away in a corner at the food court. Their amazing pizza display looked super fresh and ready to eat so I decided… why not, let’s grab a slice! Bonus points for their very welcoming full bar. Sat down, ordered an Old Fashioned 🥃 and the most amazing slice of chicken bacon ranch pizza that I’ve ever had! The flavor and the perfect amount of crunch in every bite! All kinds of WoW!!! Go give yourself a well deserved break wether it’s pizza or a drink at Prova you won’t go wrong!

Google
I go through Grand Central pretty much every day, and I occasionally stop in at Prova pizza for a quick slice. It’s located in the corner on the east side of the dining concourse. I’ve had most things there, but I’m partial to their Hawaiian slices and their squares. So good! And their Pepperoni Stromboli is also excellent, I should add. They have a small bar/seating area to the right of the counter, which is nice. The pizza is good and the staff is friendly. Worth checking out.

Google
So we brought the kids to Grand Central and decided to grab a bite to eat. Going downstairs is where the food court was. We walked back to back corner where the counter to order was. We got a few slices and were able to sit at a high table in the restaurant reserved for to orders to eat. The pizza was very good and the whole family was happy with the meal.

Google
Words cannot express how great this pizza is, seriously, LOOK AT THE PHOTOS! 😃And as hard as it to believe that the pizza is this exceptionally good, the staff is even better! If you are coming from out of town and want the authentic New York pizza 🍕 experience this place will not disappoint. We got a slice of thin crust mushroom, pepperoni, sausage and a slice of the Provo. The sauce on the pizza could be served with a straw, its amazing! The guy behind the counter provided us with one of the best customer service experiences we've ever had! We hope he's there next time we visit NYC. Definitely on our list of foodie faves. 10 out of 10!

Google
Good selection and I appreciate the vegan options. Classic cheese is good too. All the pie is heavy on the oil which is too bad. Service is fast and reliable which I appreciate. They seem to have the right amount of well trained staff. Line goes quick. The garlic rolls are good but I always want more dipping sauce.

Google
If you are looking for a great NY Slice the pepeoni here really hits the spot. Beautiful crust great toppings - and a very generous second slice in my box - no charge!! These guys are awesome

Aylin Kaya

Google
One of the worst pizzas I’ve ever had. The crust was terrible—completely bland and flavorless. The garlic knots were dripping with oil, and the taste was so off I can’t even describe it. Total disappointment.

Google
There had to be a worst NYC pizza slice, I'm just disappointed it's in Grand Central. Tried this place twice, and both times were absolutely nothing special. I could get better pizza actually anywhere else and thats really sad. I'm disappointed more than anything.

Yelp
If you are in the Grand Central Station Area and looking for a quick, delicious food. A Grab and Go. Fast service, you see it, you ask for it, pay and go!! (Ambience) You can always entertain yourself looking around looking at the pedestrian traffic as folks are walking fast to their respective train stations.

Yelp
Prova, located in the dining concourse of Grand Central is a great option if you're passing through and looking for a quick bit. My current favorite is their Hawaiian, but I've had almost everything on their menu over the years. If you have time there's a bar area where you can sit and enjoy your meal. Overall, it's one of my favorite places there, and I'm sure that you will like it as well.

Yelp
Stopped in after work with a colleague since I've been here before for a bite. Tried the penne with chicken. It was quite tasty and very well portioned. Surprised I was actually able to finish it all. The pricing was very reasonable for the amount of food and the server was very attentive. I enjoyed the set up and the seating we had. Everything was somewhat spaced out, so you were able to have your privacy although it was not a large establishment.

Yelp
Needed a quick lunch spot in grand central, it's all the way to the bottom and it hit the spot. All the pizza was laid out and reheated, some don't like that but it gave it the crispy taste which I like. Large sizes and Detroit with ny style. I had the buffalo chicken which was great with a good amount of cheese. It was ready quick after a 60 second reheat.

Yelp
I'm not a pizza fan?!? Diabolical I know, esp in the east coast. But my kids and I do love this spot when traveling. Good flavor, great cheese pulls, and nice crispy outside soft inside. We never had pizza this good coming from the west coast! We've tried other nyc pizza at famous spots and found others crusts bland or dry. We enjoy this spot and will come back!
google avatar

Humairaa A.

Yelp
They warm up the slices quick. Our pizza slices had a balanced amount of sauce and cheese. We tried spinach and mushroom as well as regular cheese. Quick lunch. Cost effective. In grand central.
google avatar

Tara R.

Yelp
Quick good pizza. They had about 10 different pizzas to choose from. We got the NY pepperoni and the Prova special which was square and had pepperoni and sausage. Was heated up well with a crisp crust. They gave us plates and we devoured it as we stood at a table close by.

Yelp
Loved Prova! Delicious pizza. Enjoyed the atmosphere very much, as my friend and I sat and enjoyed our meal. Service is great and the place is hopping! Everyone loves this place! Glad we stopped in and will return.

Yelp
Actually I was super hungry after work one evening and decided to go to the food court in the basement in grand central. Thought I would grab a chicken roll and a peach margarita at Prova Pizzabar. It's a really chilled pizza takeout place. Lots of pizza with delicious toppings. And let me tell you my chicken roll was cheesy and packed with delicious slices of chicken. They were really quick with getting my order together and ensure it was heated up in the oven to perfection. Overall great atmosphere to enjoy a quick takeout if you are a pizza kinda person.

Yelp
Food can improve. I had a margherita pizza and it barely had sauce. Before that I had a piccata pizza and had to return it because there was a piece of hair embedded in the cheese. Ambiance is cool. It has a to go order spot and then there's a bar/restaurant with full service in the back. Prices are okay. Piccata was $7 and the margherita was $5. They come square so it's a lot bigger than a regular shaped pizza, just less sauce. Located in the dining section of grand central terminal so it is convenient, great location, it's pizza! Who doesn't want pizza?! I must say although, it's not your authentic NY slice.
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
We ordered two slices: a spinach mushroom slice, and a square slice with tomatoes and fresh mozzarella. Pizza looked good, but had almost no taste. The crust was dull and the toppings had no discernible flavors. My husband and I joked as we munched that they had achieved the impossible by making food that had no flavor.
google avatar

Yelp
Our out-of-town grandchild was visiting and had to have New York pizza while here. We had spent time walking him around the main branch of the NYPL, so we popped into Grand Central Terminal to show him the fabulous ceiling. Decided it might be a touristy inauthentic spot for lunch but we were hungry, we knew there was pizza downstairs, and we found Prova. More Sicilian style than New York style pizza, but it was terrific! We shared a large vegetable pie. It was a rectangle of 6 big square-ish slices and topped with a ton of obviously fresh vegetables and some really good stringy cheese. That's all we had and we were stuffed. Service was gracious and there are tables inside so you don't have to go scrounging around for a seat in the outer seating area of the station.

Yelp
Was looking for food in the Grand Central area and didn't want to wait for Shake Shack and I found this pizza stand on the corner next to Shake Shack. Cash slice is about $7, which is on the expensive side so I guess you're paying for convenience. I got the Chicken Bacon Ranch and their Prova Special, which is just a Meatlover slice. Both were square pizzas. Overall they both tasted fine. Service is pretty friendly. All of the dry peppers, cheese, and whatever else you want to sprinkle on top of your pizza is at the cash register as well as the napkins.
google avatar

Jackie B.

Yelp
Food was ok, nothing to write home about..... service was fast, and felt welcoming. However, there was another diner sitting 2 tables away talking aggressively loudly while we were trying to eat... ruined the experience. (Not the restaurants fault- but also let it happen) Fine with kids.. we had 40 min to spare before our train
google avatar

Sunny C.

Yelp
A solid pizza spot in a food court that has some questionable menus. I mean, you're looking at Shake shack, some tacos, or something else that's $$$$ I stopped by for a quick bite- and thought the mushroom pepperoni slice was excellent! A slice is $6.50 Enjoy
google avatar

Roman E C.

Yelp
Food was amazing and people were so nice, Mac and cheese was the best I ever had and awesome place , the place a little dirty and the vibe was great
google avatar

Giselle G.

Yelp
I came here to get pizza and I ordered the buffalo chicken pizza and I did not like it and my stomach did not neither. I am not sure what happened but after I ate it my stomach was a bit unsettled. I am a big fan of chicken buffalo pizza and maybe that was a bad day for them. I am willing to try it again and will give them another chance. Maybe it was an off day for them.
google avatar

Andreas S.

Yelp
The pizza crust was disappointingly doughy and undercooked, resembling a frozen pizza. The taste left much to be desired, and the overall ambiance was marred by a disturbing smell in the restaurant. On the positive side, service was fast, and the server was notably nice and attentive. However, the high prices didn't justify the subpar food quality.
google avatar

Hope H.

Yelp
We wanted somewhere close to our hotel, without a crazy wait, and a good NY style pizza. We were not disappointed on any count. The wait was minutes, service quick and consistent and the food exactly what we wanted. Yummy pizza was had by all and we had plenty to bring back to the room for our midnight snack!
google avatar

Evan F.

Yelp
Barely serviceable pizza. Crust doughy and undercooked. Cheese tasteless. Sauce too sweet. But beggars can't be choosers in the GC Station food court.

Yelp
I've been trying to find my go to pizza place in this area (near Grand Central) but there aren't as many pizzerias as you might think nearby. I decided to give Prova Pizza a try since my time was limited, it's close-by and seems to attract customers. I can honestly say that this was the worst slice of pizza I've ever had in my entire life. Worse than any pizzeria slice I've ever had. Worse than any frozen pizza I've ever made. Worse than Lunchables pizza. It's just god-awful. Why? Well, I ordered 2 plain slices. Nothing fancy. The sauce had zero taste. The cheese had zero taste. In fact, I loaded spices onto it afterwards just to see if I could 'doctor it up'. That didn't even work. It was like a black hole of tastelessness. The crust had an awful cardboard consistency to it with a terrible and almost soapy aftertaste. I'm still tasting it in my mouth right now and it's absolutely disgusting. It's also $3.50 per slice! And just so you know it isn't just my taste buds failing here, I had this pizza with a coworker who 100% agreed as it being the worst slice of pizza she ever had in her life. Bottom line - in a city that has hundreds of pizza joints, this should be your last choice. My guess is that they make money off of people traveling through Grand Central from other cities, states or countries because I don't know why anyone would ever go back. And if foreigners think that THIS is what NYC pizza tastes like then they are doing a disservice to NYC and the great pizza it is known for.
google avatar

Jess D.

Yelp
I got the pepperoni and sausage "granny" slice. I think that's what they call the square pizza slices.... I may be wrong. I initially wondered why it was $8 but the minute I put it in my mouth I found out pretty quickly. The cheese pull... the spices... the meats... amazing! I wasn't wild about the bend though. It was definitely not a bend and bite slice but was really really good!
google avatar

Yelp
Try: Rustica Pizza Why: It had Tomato Sauce, Mozzarella, Sausage, Peppers, Onion, and Parsley. 4 squares that were actually large and filling. Crust has a nice crunch. I enjoyed the pizza. Through MealPal it's a great deal ($7 versus $12.50). Notes: It's in the Grand Central dining hall so can get busy and crazy. Having MealPal helps beat the line.

Francis Edward L.

Yelp
I bought a box of pizza from their bar and went into the restaurant to eat comfortably on a table. Instead, the waitress made me sit on the side wall where I strugged to enjoy my meal. The table on the sidewall was too slim for the size of their pizza box. The bar was mostly empty and the restaurant was half empty. She didn't even offer to place my meal on smaller plates. This happened at 1:20 pm May 13, 2023. (to help you identify the waitress)
google avatar

Kim H.

Yelp
In the midst of pizza heaven which is NYC....this ain't the typical NY slice ypu are thinking of. It is a like a thin crust Sicilian pie. It is ok, nothing that really separate this pizza IMHO. It is more of a chain type of pizza taste.
google avatar

Heather G.

Yelp
Everything I stated in my original review about Prova being overpriced still stands...$7 for a goddamn four cheese Sicilian slice is highway robbery, even when you account for the Midtown ripoff tax. That said, the aforementioned four cheese slice is pretty friggin delicious. The crust is very bready, but if you're expecting that it's good. A quintessential New York slice this is not...don't delude yourself otherwise, but it is tasty. I just wish they would get it together with the slice reheating. The edges were nice and warm, but the middle was cold. It really wouldn't kill them to leave the slice in an extra 30 seconds. I still wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but I needed a slice to stave off hanger before taking a train, and the line was short.
google avatar

Ava C.

Yelp
The people who work there are very nice. But I just ordered a spinach Stromboli that was so disgusting , I was compelled to let the owners know by writing this review. I never write reviews but I was shocked that i was just served something that I wouldn't even feed to my dog. My colleagues eat the pizza here and recommended this place to me, I regret going here. The spinach is clearly not fresh , must be frozen and who knows how many months old, all stringy with like sticks in it. Beyond greasy, flavorless "mozzarella" cheese , Most likely plastic cheese , I could literally only eat the "crust" which was borderline raw on the inside. Use real, fresh ingredients! How can you serve this to the public? I'm not even talking about the price cuz that's secondary , serve edible food to people please
google avatar

Michael Z.

Yelp
Changed the tip for my 16 year old son's purchase. That's not cool. The pizza was good but very expensive.

Robin Z.

Yelp
Excellent place to stop before or after the train . We sat down in the pleasant dining room and had fast friendly service from a sweet lady . Servings were fresh & huge , took the rest home

Tabatha K.

Yelp
I found Prova by accident. I was meeting a friend for an economical lunch in GST and we wandered over to the "pizza place". I noticed a small sign that said "full service dining" and I figured it would be nicer than hunting for an available table in the food court. We both had chicken parm stambolies.....large enuf to take half home! The price, considering the location, was very good and the meal was delicious. Service was quick....and there was plenty of available seating. I went back with my husband this week (we were in the neighborhood) and he thought it was "a gem in the middle of chaos). Highly recommend!
google avatar

Elena J.

Yelp
It's been a month since my review and i KNOW the owners read their reviews. Why is the man STILL yelling?! It is VERY annoying and does not make me want to buy a slice. Please stop immediately.
google avatar

Monique A.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and grab a slice of pizza somewhere else in the city. The pizza here is overpriced and underwhelming.
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
Normal New York City day and decided to go down and grab a piece of pizza, What a mistake. The server Who took my order was extraordinarily friendly, kudos to him! When I turned around to go into the bar to get a seat and the owner refused to see us even though there were plenty of places to sit (apparently if you just order one slice that's not good enough for them to offer you a seat) The pizza itself was lukewarm and tasted like cardboard (since the pizza was only warm the cheese was thick and chewy and the pepperoni was average) Take my advice, you're in New York City, there are tons of pizza places around here. Do yourself a favor and skip this joint!
google avatar

Marilyn W.

Yelp
Right in the Grand Central terminal we found this wonderful pizza place which of course had New York style pizza. It was the best we've ever had! I got the slice of chicken which was so generous and my husband got the special Prova slice. Delicious, authentic and highly recommend
google avatar

Rich H.

Yelp
We were in Grand Central Station and had lunch here. We thought the Pizza was superb. Tasty, crispy and just awsm. You can't go wrong here, they have many choices, calzones, stromboli Service was very friendly. 3rd time eating here, we make a point of it when were in NYC.
google avatar

Melissa F.

Yelp
After traveling cross-country and arriving at our hotel we were hungry and looking for something close by to eat. There weren't a ton of options open in Grand Central Station and being that We love pizza, it was a simple choice for us to try Prova. Overall the pizza was OK but it was not New York pizza (I grew up eating Pizza in NY my whole life). We ordered pepperoni pizza and the Quattro Formaggio. The slices we ordered were square so they looked kind of like Sicilian but they were thinner like a regular slice of New York pizza.
google avatar

Keemy U.

Yelp
This is a nice pizza spot. I got the veggie slice for $6 but it was worth it. The pizza is thick and flavorful. They do have a section to sit down and a nice dine in area. They do have a B rating. Overall this place is good for pizza but not the first place I'd for the price.

Rick J.

Yelp
$6 for a slice that has no taste at all. It's a greasy heavy slice that I regret. I would rate $1 pizza higher.
google avatar

Nicki K.

Yelp
We were heading out to Coney Island and wanted to grab something on the way since it'll be a long trip on the subway. Since we were next to Grand Station Stadium, I didn't realize there's a food hall there. We scouted the area and there were many choices. My friend wanted pizza and caesar salad. I didn't mind so we found Prova Pizzabar. We were able to see our choices and once we made up our mind. Our slices of pizza were put in the oven. Our caesar salad took longer cause they made it fresh. Mine had too much croutons but the flavors were on point. Very full and although felt paid a little too much for the meal. It was delicious and fulfilling. 169/2019

Yelp
Always liked this joint! Convenient location for that train ride home. Delicious quick fix! Slices are loaded with toppings! One of the spots I'm gonna miss after my big move. Pizza crust nice and crunchy. So long NY. The city I both love and hate

Steve H.

Yelp
Updating my previous negative review because I tried Prova again, post-pandemic. I had the funghi (mushroom) slice and it was excellent. Really top tier. Congratulations Prova on really upping your game!

Valeria S.

Yelp
The four cheese pizza slice is amazing. Absolutely tasty. Only problem i have is the 7.65 price but this is a very tourist filled area so i excuse the price point.
google avatar

Angel M.

Yelp
Seriously good pizza. The classic plain slice has an amazing sauce. The square pepperoni slice is pure magic with its crispy crust and tasty pepperoni. Service is fast and friendly. Inside has a full bar with great bartenders.
google avatar

Krysten A.

Yelp
The pizza here is so flavorful. I was surprised as I wasn't expecting much. I really regret not taking more slices to go, but seeing as I had to get on the subway, I thought better of it. My friend and I sat at the bar and had it with a couple of glasses of wine.

Francely H.

Yelp
The pizza here is great! I got a NY style cheese pizza for $26 and it could feed 4 people at least.
google avatar

Melissa L.

Yelp
This is not my kind of pizza! Thick crust, greasy, messy and cold. I needed a whole roll of paper towels to finish my dish. The grease really overpowered the flavor. The only thing I enjoyed was the ricotta cheese on top (cold and all)!
google avatar

Michelle P.

Yelp
Every time I happen to be at Grand Central Terminal, I grab a slice of their pizza. It's Square, it's good, its delicious. If you want to sit down and order a large pie, they have a little restaurant there too. Their restaurant is ok, servers were very friendly. I prefer just to buy the slice and find a table somewhere else. Pizza is always fresh there. I've had their garlic knots with cheese and their caprese salad too (cherry tomatoes for life). Prices are a little high, $4.90 for a slice of cheese pizza, but I think the slice is big, and the pizza is top quality. It looks small but when you eat, you realize it's big. The pizza dough/crush is very good, crispy, chewy, crunchy at the same time. They offer different types of toppings. Good place.

Yelp
Aye aye aye. I so want to be Mr. Donatella. Food crush? Lust? No, it's bigger than even BFF. Donatella is my pizza soulmate. I think her PhD's are all expert in food service and for the most part friendly and accommodating. Bartender on a Sunday is the Devil ! :) (emojis not added by Yelp. Sad!!)
