I was extremely disappointed that I was not allowed to freely view the 12x12’s when I was at the museum yesterday. I have bid on many pieces in the past and am a proud owner of an encaustic that I was fortunate enough to “win”. Yesterday, I was told I had to pay the full price of admission in order to view the works for sale which are in a separate room, separate from the other collections. I have supported the 12x12 project in the past because I value the work of local artists, many that may not have the opportunity to show in galleries. I was told by the woman at the front desk that I could view the pieces online. Well, everyone knows viewing art online hardly comes close to the emotional connection one can experience when seeing art in person. I don’t feel charging a fee to view a fund raiser and valuable community outreach makes any sense.
