The hotel has gone downhill and we won't be staying there again. The hotel is very dated and needs extensive renovations. The kitchenette we stayed in looked like it was last updated in 70s and the appliances were nearly worn out. The AC barely worked and our room was very warm. The mattresses are well worn and provide little support or comfort. Then there were the issues with housekeeping, they didn't even do the bare minimum. I asked the house cleaner one day to vacuum the room and I was told that is not on her list. My daughters stayed in another room and had similar issues. I would not recommend staying here.

Dated rooms. Curtains falling apart. Had to ask for more wash cloths during a 3 day stay as none were replenished. When checking in, told no guest laundry but a machine could be used for a small fee, "small fee" is $20 to get back a ball of wrinkled clothes, ridiculous.

Stayed one night as part of a road trip to see the lake. Older hotel with "some" updates. Be warned, there is no elevator here so if you have mobility issues this is not a good place. Beds are very hard and uncomfortable. Room was not as clean as it could be. I had to wipe down the side table as it had some kind of sticky substance all over it. Also not very generous with the towels. We were two people and we had a bath towel each and a wash cloth to share and one hand towel. Air conditioner was iffy and it only cooled the room off somewhat. No breakfast available anywhere in town for early risers, we needed to be on the road by 6 am and there was nothing open before 7 or 8.

What to expect when your staying here A bit pricey Very good location, they have recently renovated washrooms. No complimentary breakfast Needs lots of upgrades Inn is old, outdated and pricey The good thing is you are able to book your stay online.

The rooms are very small, dated, and dark, the beds are by far the most uncomfortable hotel beds I've encountered, the A/C didn't blow cold air so we slept with the window open, the bathrooms have been updated however the sliding doors and no exhaust fan means your whole room get's really hot and humid when you shower. The first room we checked into seems a bit dirty, their was some hair around the sink and the dated carpet had a substance that looked like vomit on it, but maybe it was just worn. The front desk agent got us another room which a bit better but all of the furniture in this place just seems sticky, I wonder if they ever wipe it down. The service was okay, not very friendly or professional, when I called the phone number for the front desk agent to come to the front and check me out she answered the phone with "hello" so I had to ask if I was calling the right place. My expectations are pretty low for accommodations up North so I wasn't too disappointed by the Ptarmigan but if I had to stay in Hay River for more than a night I'd try staying somewhere else.

The hotel as gone downhill. There was a spider web on my lamp. I had the dog room which stunk, I had to buy air fresheners and leave the window open to have fresh air. Carpets are filthy, and the day to day room service was making the bed and changing towels. Requested to vacuum, and it wasn’t done. Beds were hard and lop sided, my room smelled like pee. Needs a whole renovation, look at other places. It’s not worth the price

Stayed here recently while in Hay River overnight. I had a standard room with 2 beds, located on the 2nd floor. First room I got had an issue with the window (couldn’t close it), but that was quickly rectified and I was moved to another room. The room definitely has signs of wear and tear, the furniture and carpets could use refreshing, but it was clean and overall comfortable. The bathroom looked newer, and I enjoyed having the coffee/tea area. The one complaint about the room was that they don’t seem to have too many outlets in the room, so it was a challenge to charge my phone etc. The hotel is in great walkable location, and it has a surprisingly good restaurant on-site. I ate all my meals there and the menu was extensive, with plenty of vegetarian options, good service and quite good food. All in all a good option for Hay River.

Yelp
There is something terribly wrong with the kitchen in this place. We were a group of ten. Six of us ordered appetizers and then we all ordered meals. Only one appetizer arrived, but only two minutes before the meal. The meals took two hours to arrive. In the meantime, other tables arrived, were served, and left. Four of the meals did not arrive before two of them got up and left. Do not eat here even if you are staying in this hotel. In fact, you might just want to stay elsewhere as well.
