Pub in the Paddock

Great little pub in the middle of nowhere! Food was delicious and reasonably priced, service was great. Allowed me to plug in my laptop to catch up on some work which was greatly appreciated. Drinks were a little expensive with $50 for two glasses of wine and a beer. Open fireplaces made for a cozy evening. Free camping in the paddock.

We stayed in Pyengana, nearby the iconic Pub in the Paddock a few days ago. Ended up visiting and loved the place. The walls are covered with Pyengana's local history covering well over 100 years. The food was AMAZING and the entire staff, led by Jennifer and Walter were warm and friendly hosts. We ended up enjoying meals on three seperate days. We had the Honey Glazed Pork (AWESOME), the Grilled Chicken with Creamy Garlic Sauce (amazing) as well as a couple of Chicken Schnitzels (EPIC) with both plain and mushroom gravy. All the meals were perfectly cooked, sporting fresh produce from the chefs garden on site. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, and can only imaging how it would feel in the middle of winter, sitting by that welcoming fireplace. I guess we'll have to come back in Winter!! Thanks team!! ​After reading some mixed reviews, we weren’t entirely sure what to expect, but Pub in the Paddock absolutely blew us away. If you're looking for standard "pub grub," look elsewhere—the food here is a significant step above the average. ​The Food & Drink: ​The kitchen is punching well above its weight. We tried: - ​The Lamb Shanks Special: Incredibly tender and perfectly seasoned. - ​Honey Garlic Glazed Pork: A standout dish with a fantastic balance of sweetness and savory depth. ​The Drinks: Their selection of local Tasmanian wines and beers is curated with care. While the Devil’s Corner Pinot Noir is a classic Tassie staple that paired beautifully with the local meat, the real discovery was the Tasman River European Dark Ale—absolutely excellent and highly recommended for craft beer lovers. ​Atmosphere & Service: ​The vibe is exactly what you want from a quirky country pub: welcoming, authentic, and full of character. The service was flawless—5 stars for the staff who made us feel right at home and served up super quick meals despite a full house! ​A Note on the "Wall of Fame": ​The pub has a very cool, quirky tradition of pinning items to the wall. While we love the community spirit, we noticed several interstate and professional licenses pinned up with full personal identifiers visible. ​A friendly tip for fellow travelers: As much as we love the "quirky Aussie pub" traditions, please be mindful of your identity. We actually took the liberty of using a sharpie to blur out some personal details on existing IDs to protect folks from potential ID theft or more serious organized crime risks. Keep the tradition alive, but keep your private info safe! ​Overall, this is a must-visit spot in Pyengana. Exceptional food, great brews, and a quintessential Tasmanian experience. We’ll definitely be back!

We went for lunch yesterday after our walk to Halls falls. The venue was very cute with a fascinating history of the place being a school originally and the job description for the teachers. The food was good and the pigs Priscilla and Lisa Marie were cute and they did like their watered down beer.

Didnt stay in rooms so cannot comment on them. Great pub, very cosy. Beers are a bit on the expensive side, 1 guiness and 1 pint of house ale was about $30. Wife and son had bangers and mash and it was great I had the surf and turf for about $50, it was not what i would expect for $50, meat was tough, cooked well just not great quality and not enough vegetables for the price. Overall a nice place though.

Stayed in the love shack Every glass we used was dirty. There was dried pee under the toilet seat. No bread given for our breakfast which was supposed to be included. Crumbs under the toaster. No TV or radio. Under the cupboards was dusty and rubbish left. For $275 a night with discount from booking.com. most definitely not worth it. I have stayed in cleaner hostels.

We came last year and there were maybe 4 caravans and us motorcyclists. This year the park for vans had many and the car park filling up. As always the hazy beer was the best in tasie. Didn’t eat but heard others raving.

OMG!!!! This beautiful place is a must-visit for your next holiday. My family was camping and needed a night's stay before we drove off to Launceston. The meal is fantastically presented with high-quality ingredients, and the room was neat and tidy also free breakfast was available for the travellers. More than anything this place is gold for the amazing view you will find the heaven there!

A nice pub to stop off at during your travels for a beer, but don't bother eating here. The food was expensive ($21 for a schnitzel) which would have been ok if it was an example of 'country cooking' as advertised, but it was a frozen McCain schnitzel with undercooked chips and lumpy gravy. Very disappointing. I would have been happy to just have a drink though, the location in the paddock is very relaxing on the old deck.
