One of many bridges in Central Cuenca that gained notoriety a a restored “broken incomplete” structure.
Originally built in the mid-1800s, it connected the upper and lower areas of the city separated by Tomebamba River. A century later in 1950, the river flooded, taking away half of the bridge.
Structural support was later added to the standing structure to what remains today. It became a landmark upon Cuenca’s designation as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
