We had a great time here. The hostel has made a lot of effort to provide a great experience for people staying there. The beds are comfortable, the wifi works great, plenty of hot water. The eating arrangements at the property are brilliant, it's a great way to meet people. The food they offer was also excellent! The bar always had offers on and there was always something going on at the hostel each day/night. Staff were friendly They messed up our booking and were put in a dorm for one night which they apologised for. Maybe get more towels? They never seemed to have any available to hire during our 3 nights there! The private rooms smelt a little of damp - some mould was visible on the walls. We only used the rooms to sleep so didn't bother us much.

I enjoyed my stay at Puerta vieja hostel. The food is very good for the price and there are several activities to choose from each day. The rooms are very cold and damp though which is not very pleasant. Additionally,I feel I must bring attention to an issue with the horse riding tour provided through the hostel. On the tour, myself and 4 others were appalled at the condition in which the horse were. All of the horses used were much too small for the size of ourselves and were incredibly tired. Some had cuts on their legs and flys were sitting in them, others had sores and bald patches from ill fitting saddles and bridles and for the entire period of the tour none of the horses were given any water. At the end of the tour myself and another girl had to use our own drinking water to give to the horses as they were severely dehydrated and exhausted. We were disgusted to see that when our tour ended and the next one began, the same horses were used. Still, no water, no food, and minimal shade and recovery time. I understand within different cultures and countries there are different animal standards and beliefs but this treatment should not go unnoticed and I believe the hostel should step in to stop such treatment, least of all the hostel should not endorse the company running the tour.

This hostel was super social without being too much of a party hostel. The breakfast and dinner options were so helpful and really cheap. The activities were very fun especially the cocktail night and salsa with Temo. However none of the activities ran on time which was slightly annoying but fine. Rooms were clean and bathrooms were good other than shower temp being a bit difficult. Overall I had an amazing stay it was so much fun.

Loved it here, for sure one of my favorite hostels. Really good an cheap food and a good location. Inside it feels like your own little world and when you step outside you‘re right on the main road. Also a great place for socializing. Met so many cool people and the atmosphere is really nice.

I spent 8 nights here and really enjoyed my stay. This is definitely the most social hostel in San Cris, with social events every night (very alcohol heavy). The hostel dinners are definitely a highlight and for only 50 pesos are a great deal (very high quality). I only give it four stars because of some of the front desk staff. At first the staff seem quite kind but they can also be very rude and aggressive. After 8 nights here, (and spending a few thousand pesos here) I changed to a different hostel for my final night in San Cris so i could have an affordable private room. I was spending time with some friends at this hostel during that day, and was aggressively spoken to by the staff because I'd checked out the prior day and the facilities were only for guests.

Highest recommendations for this Hostal in central San Cris. Moment I arrived the hosts greeted me with smiles and patience with my attempts at Spanish (all the workers speak English as well as other languages due to the multitude of world travelers here). Was then shown the dining area where I took two courtesy meals each day of my stay. The food is great. The hosts also make available a range of experiences; including a Temazcal which I was able to join in on with the incredible staff.

We booked a private room and it exceeded our expectations. The private rooms are in a building that's about 20 metres down the street from the hostel. So you got the best of both worlds, you were close to the hostel, but it was also a lot quieter. The rooms were quite new, the beds were really comfy and the shower was really hot and had great pressure. I would definitely stay at the hostel again. We paid for the half board which included breakfast and dinner. The food was delicious and they offer different options each day for breakfast and a different meal for dinner - they also offer meat or vegetarian options. The food was all home cooked, great value and delicious. We were extremely impressed with the food. The hostel is in a great location, 15 minutes from the ADO bus station and less than two minutes into the main square. We booked the canyon tour via the hostel for 600 pesos and it was fantastic, it saved us over 700 pesos compared to booking online. There's a Santander bank / ATM 2 minute walk away from the hostel. You can withdraw up to 12,000 pesos and the fee is 38 pesos. The WiFi also worked really well. We went to the free cocktail night and the cocktails were also delicious. You can pay for your room using cash or card. But all of the tours have to be paid in cash only. If you're thinking of booking a room at the hostel, you won't be disappointed. It has a really social atmosphere!

You can tell the owners and staff really care about making their guests happy at this hostel. I've stayed in three different hostels in San Cris and this one is the most fun and offers the most activities and bookings. The temezcal ceremonies are super unique for a hostel! Great social events and good vibes.
