Such a great hostel with amazing vibes, great deals, cheap meals and rooms! Access to clean water everywhere and amazing staff and volunteers. Chelsea, Freya, Frannie, Mary Lou, and so many others really made my experience special. Would recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a great central location and a social vibe while staying in San Cristobal. It has amazing hang out areas to hide out during the rainy season, including a TV area! It’s also just right down the road from everything you need when the sun comes out. Activities + tours everyday, amazing cheap breakfast & dinner! 10/10 recommend!

A M A Z I N G! That's the only word to describe my stay at Puerta Vieja Hostel. It's so easy to meet other travelers, whether you're chilling in the beautiful garden, enjoying a drink at the bar, or participating in one of their daily activities. They have everything from free salsa lessons and cocktail nights to ping pong tournaments. The hostel is well-equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The rooms and dorms are clean and the beds are a bit noisy but they are comfortable. They have many bathrooms as well. The location is perfect – just a short and easy walk to the main square. The free breakfast and dinners are awesome and make everyone come together. They have veggie options and meat options so there is something for everyone.

Really nice hostel, amazing views from room, clean room, nice cheap food, nice drinks, lots of fun and free events here too. We did a hike through the hostel which was great.

Great hostel!!! Breakfast and dinner is included which is amazing, and i recommend doing the mixology class, run by Temo, a bartender, who is great. We loved the class and 3 cocktails (plus a free shot) for 50 Mexican pesos is a brilliant deal. We had such a fun stay here, I highly recommend! Definitely great value😁😁

This is the Cerveceria Chapultepec of hostels: cheap, efficient, and totally absent of culture. I’ll admit that I liked this place when I was here four years ago, though whether it’s gotten worse or I’ve simply matured since then is harder to say (probably a bit of both). If you’re fresh out of college, on a budget, looking for a place to party, and want someone else to plan day trips for you, this is genuinely the place to be. If, however, you’re a bit more mature, are here for more than just partying, and want to actually connect with San Cristobal and not restrict yourself to a tiny gringo bubble within it, then you should avoid at all costs. Pros: awesome coffee, cheap not-bad food, generally cost-effective, can meet lots of ppl, many bar promos Cons: disrespectful guests, vindictive staff (some of them, really just a few volunteers, I had zero issues with the adult Mexican workers), demographic of obnoxious 20-22yo alcoholics, won’t let you store bags even for a few days between stays. Ultimately, I would say this place is a victim of its own success — they run at near-constant full capacity, and as such can get away with sketchy behavior that a less popular hostel would be ruined by.

Had a great time here! A very social hostel with lots to do, such as organised hikes and temezcal (a Mexican sauna used to cleanse the body and mind). Breakfast and dinner included was great, helped save a lot of money and was very tasty! Definitely stay here if your coming to San Cristobal

What a great hostel to stay at! Friendly staff, good value for money, lots of cheap and fun activities organized by the hostel and dinner and/or breakfast everyday for 50 pesos per meal. Additionally there are lots of social events that you can participate in to meet people, but there is no noise in the dorms, so if you want to sleep early that is always possible :))

Fave hostel of the trip so far. Great activities, staff and facilities. If you’re up for a table tennis challenge ask for Carlos at the reception. Happy to have got one set off him (despite the final score probably being 10 sets to 1)
