Port Madero!
This port is a railroad to shipyard that was lovingly transformed by both the Federal government of Argentina and the city government of Buenos Aires. They took what looks to be what was a pretty industrialized area, and transformed it into a pedestrian friendly area with steakhouses, fancy restaurants, expensive looking apartments, and international corporate headquarters business parks and office buildings.
My favorite thing about this area is the bridge, Puente de la Mujer by Santiago Calatravas here- he's a Spanish architect who does some great things! The bridge looks like it's gracefully leaning over to the left, like it's a big light switch, or a branch that got caught in the current. It's worth checking out- he's got lots of bridges and other buildings across the globe!
The area had a few street performers and felt safe, although it was fairly dark in areas, and not heavily patrolled by law enforcement.
