Puerto Madero

"Puerto Madero is the slick and modern part of Buenos Aires, but it’s not all about shiny office buildings, fancy condos, and refurbished docks — there are many cool (and cheap) activities to be had in the neighborhood. Walking along the docks is a great way to enjoy the vibe and check out the port, and the 864-acre Reserva Ecológica, the city’s biggest and most biodiverse green space, is a must-see. The barrio is also home to some great street food vendors (close to the natural reserve), so be sure to try a choripán or bondiola." - MATADOR_NETWORK

Yelp
This is the area where the first European immigrants set foot in Argentina. During the 19th century, Puerto Madero was booming because of imports and export. After World War II trade decreased tremendously and the hangars and cranes went into decay. Today, Puerto Madero is filled with Lofts, hotels, museums, and luxury apartments. Puerto Madero has a modern upscale look with Puente de la Mujer bridge as the eye catcher. Sunset is the time to explore Puerto Madero and enjoy a lovely walk while you see the sun going down. During the summer the area was filled with bugs at sunset.

Yelp
Port Madero! This port is a railroad to shipyard that was lovingly transformed by both the Federal government of Argentina and the city government of Buenos Aires. They took what looks to be what was a pretty industrialized area, and transformed it into a pedestrian friendly area with steakhouses, fancy restaurants, expensive looking apartments, and international corporate headquarters business parks and office buildings. My favorite thing about this area is the bridge, Puente de la Mujer by Santiago Calatravas here- he's a Spanish architect who does some great things! The bridge looks like it's gracefully leaning over to the left, like it's a big light switch, or a branch that got caught in the current. It's worth checking out- he's got lots of bridges and other buildings across the globe! The area had a few street performers and felt safe, although it was fairly dark in areas, and not heavily patrolled by law enforcement.

Yelp
Puerto Madero is a revamped dockside area. Its converted redbrick buildings contain upscale steakhouses popular with tourists and business lunches. Sleek skyscrapers house multinational corporations and high-value apartments. Great place to spend an evening.

Yelp
DescriptionPuerto Madero is a revamped dockside area. Its converted redbrick buildings contain upscale steakhouses popular with tourists and business lunchers. Sleek skyscrapers house multinational corporations and high-value apartments. Trails loop around several lakes at the wildlife-rich Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve, which draws families and joggers. Spanning the docks, Puente de la Mujer is a graceful suspension bridge.
