Yelp
I've been going to San Juan a lot this year for work, and I have had some time to explore the "Old San Juan" area on those trips. After popping into quite a few shops the advertise locally made items, "Puerto Rican Arts & Crafts" really stood out as being the best.
I was looking specifically for a vejigante mask, and this shop as a huge selection of different types made by a variety of local artists. When I selected a few I liked, they were able to answer questions about them and also provide extensive information about the artist. If you are a mask collector, this is a great place to pick up an authentic, locally made mask (they have all sizes, from very small ones in the $10 range all the way to some that are three feet tall and cost over $1,000).
However, this shop isn't just for mask collectors. They have an extremely wide range of locally made arts and crafts, and also carry many local food items like chocolate, plantain chips, hot sauces, coffee, and rums.
The prices here might not be rock bottom, but authentic goods cost a bit more, so it's worth visiting this shop if that's what you want. As of May, 2022, they are still implementing health and safety protocols, including masking. They accept cash and credit cards, and will package up your items so you can get them home safely.
