My friends and I stayed here on 2/16. It was absolutely lovely! From the cozy atmosphere to the delicious food prepared by the staff the whole experience was amazing. This place will have a special place in our hearts! Special shoutout for Lucas, Pedro, and Hans! They were so sweet and welcoming. My friends and I felt like we were right at home :) There is ice trekking and via Ferrata available with advanced notice!

Loved it! Unique location, right in front of a beautiful glacier, and comfortable stay. + super cozy living area! Great view. + enjoyed the food + kind and helpful hosts + sheets & towels provided & hot shower Some reviews seem to miss this is a remote mountain hut located in Patagonia. I can recommend. We stayed only 1 night but would have loved to book a Glacier trekking + additional night. Next time..

Stunning location. We were charged $100 for 4 crepes and a tea…the crepes were good but we were shocked at the price. They also didn’t accept card or $1 bills. Unless you’re staying there I’d say to skip the hut and just do the hike.

I had the opportunity to visit Puesto Cagliero last weekend, and I can say with certainty that it was one of the best mountain experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, the staff welcomed us with exceptional warmth and kindness, ensuring that we had everything we needed for our stay.

After trekking along the Rio Diablo you arrive at this isolated refugio in a stunning location. The ladies running the hostel are really friendly and cook a delicious and hearty two course meal. On arrival we were treated to tea and pancakes with Dulce de lèche. There are rooms of differing sizes - ours had three beds although we were only two and an ensuite shower room. Water has to be heated by wood apparently and was available from 19.00-20.30. Showers were really hot and good strength. It was very peaceful and stylishly decorated. We loved it and the amazing view over the Cagliaro glacier at sunset and sunrise.

We didn’t find the price was worth $250 price tag for three. The Refugio is pretty remote, however, there is not much to do except trying to stay warm under blankets in your room since there is no heating in the rooms. We stayed there during overcast and rainy weather, so maybe it’s a little more fun during dry and sunny day. I recommend staying in one of the nicer places in El Chaltén for the price of the room here and just visit the refugio for lunch. Dinner was $17 per person when we stayed there. I think lunch would be around the same price. We got no information about our trip - the price for food, how to get there etc. so we definitely came unprepared. The room is very tiny with two bunk beds. We only had one towel for three people, clogged shower drain and dirty sheets that were not changed from the previous guests. It was supposed to be the highlight of our trip but was the biggest disappointment considering how expensive it is. Staff were great but note that’s it’s a Refugio owned by foreign investors (not a family run B&B as we imagined it to be).

I would give this four stars, my wife would give it two, hence the three star rating. We originally booked two nights here, but they contacted us the week before and said they had a plumbing problem and we could only stay one night. So it caused a bit of a scramble to find another place at the last minute. But, as it worked out, we would not have wanted to stay here two nights anyway. The food was very basic and there isn't much to do other than read while you are there. The number of hikes you can do from the cabin are limited by the lake and the surrounding topography. You cannot hike to the nearby glacier unless you have a licensed guide from El Chalten ($250/pp). The hike out and back was nice, but you can do that without staying here overnight.

Loved our trip to Puesto Cagliero. Getting there is an experience on its own, the road from El Chalten to Estancia Huemules is beautiful, bordering a river, views to Fitz Roy mountain and the hiking from there to Puesto Calgiero is soooo worth it. Not hard, we crossed woods, rivers, etc a great adventure, away from the crowds and off the beaten path. Once getting there being received by Álvaro with homemade alfajores and a hot cup of tea was most rewarding. The views from el Puesto, the rocky beach next to Laguna Diablo and watching Cagliero Glacier great experience. The food was comforting, delicious and abundant. The beds so comfortables and warm. The rooms very clean. Álvaro arranged for us a full day hike to the glacier, really worth it. Highly recommend it!!!! We traveled with family and friends, from 8 to 50 years old.Thank You Álvaro for a great holiday!!!!
