Very informative museum attached to a cute shop and library! And wonderful nature walks to see shorebirds yourself. The sleeping arrangements were clean.

An amazing experience. Staying at the centre is wonderful, and gives one more time to explore and experience the birds. We took a guided tour and bombarded Chelsea with questions on all topics—geology, plants, history, food, culture—and learned so much. Keith is a legend, a foundation at the Centre, and we enjoyed learning about all of Tansy’s restoration work. The shorebirds are the stars, but there’s so much more to see and do here. We’ll be back.

Helpful staff and passionate about the birds really know what they are talking about, clearly involved in the full cycle of the sanctuary, the centre is informative and has a gift shop. There is a space to sit and relax, reflect, revive before you make your way over to the bird huts to watch nature at its best, a tranquil, quiet, peaceful well kept space, also more info on walls in huts. Thanks team for your 50years of commitment and dedication to educate and share this space with the world especially the amazing birds from around the world❤️💯

Excellent Shorebird Visitor Centre. Best shop with great collection of bird books & gifts. Friendly helpful staff explaining about wading birds, best tide viewing times. Bunkroom & 2 self- contained unit accommodation available. Highly recommend this Shorebird Centre for birders & non birders.

Great place to visit if you're in the area. Lots of information about the local bird life and we'll informed staff. Just down the road are three hides where you can observe the bird at low tide feeding time. We saw many godwits fattening themselves in preparation for the long flight to their breeding grounds in Alaska.

I’ve always wanted to see the Godwits. There’s just something about a tiny bird flying 12,000km across the world that is somewhat aweing. Finally went out today to the Pūkorokoro Miranda Shorebird Sanctuary to watch the Bar-tailed Godwit roosting on the flats after their recent migration from Alaska to Aotearoa. A fabulous talk also from Dr Dan Ruthrauff an Alaskan Biologist who's spent his life studying these remarkable arctic migrants and discussing the ongoing mystery of how these birds achieve this incredible feat. Birders at the centre also set up some bird scopes that let us see these remarkable creatures zoomed up close. Also spotted the wrybill, red knot, sharp-tailed sandpiper, pied stilt, oyster catcher, and many other birds. A great little gift shop too. I’d definitely recommend a visit, and supporting this sanctuary’s remarkable work!

Although we're not particularly interested in birds, we were able to identify two different species along the way. It was fascinating to learn about their migration patterns, and it was an eye-opener to discover that some of them stop at the Korean Songdo and Saemangeum areas, which we hadn’t known about before.
