The pyramid structures are no longer visible. I insisted on hiking to it today expecting to see a real ancient pyramid, and all I saw was a forested hill. I went with a guide from the village. If I understood the explanation correctly, the story goes like this: many years ago the government was managing and excavating the place and the pyramid photos we see on the internet are from that era. After that it somehow reverted to one family from the nearby village and no more excavations were done. The jungle has taken over now. If you are “enjoying the journey” type if people, I say it was a good hike for a nice view. If your goal is the pyramid, I would recommend enjoy the photos. Wear good shoes! I was wearing rubber sandals snd the trip took 1.5 hours with a lot of ouches, instead of an hour. Finish with a refreshing swim at a nearby waterfall.

Firstly, it's not a mound, it's an Altar. Secondly, it wasn't built in 1100AD. This was the leaving point of Maori who founded Aotearoa in 600AD. So how can they leave from this point in 600AD if it was built in 1100AD? Someone is hiding something.
