15 Best Places to Eat Like a Local in Tokyo | Condé Nast Traveler

"Enter through a slatted wood door, pass under the noren curtains, and you'll find yourself in Tempura Uchitsu, where the making of the batter is elevated to high art. With few words but deliberate actions, chef Takahisa Uchitsu works his magic; behind him, a wall-sized display of verdant forestry frames his every careful move. This is tempura, reimagined as ballet. Uchitsu is delicate in his preparation, working vegetables and proteins into his konabachi with the self-assuredness of a Premier Maître. A flimsy drinks menu leans heavy on France: a grand cru from Montrachet, a sumptuous Chablis. Gravitate toward the bubbles—no wine cuts through fat quite like Champagne." - Brad Japhe

Yelp
For a relaxed wine tasting with no pressure to buy a bottle afterwards, come to Caveau de Puligny-Montrachet. Owner Julien is passionate about his wine and speaks excellent English as he describes the different qualities of his offerings. The tasting comes with four whites and two reds; we chose the "couples" option where you get a generous pour for two for 35 euros. The Caveau has a wonderful outdoor terrace where you can watch village life go by as you sip. And if you don't want to do a full tasting, you can order cocktails or a single glass of wine. There are options available to ship wines to the States if you do intend to buy. Sometimes at these tasting venues, the owner tries to upsell you and expects a big purchase. Julien's place is relaxed with no arm-twisting gimmicks.

Yelp
Like the unplanned bike trip for the day, we stopped by the Caveau de Puligny-Montrachet to get out of the sudden down pour of the early June afternoon. After bottles of Cremant de Burgourgne, a surprisingly tasty young 2009 Santenay, and a 2005 Premier Cru Nuits Saint Georges split between a half dozen Kiwis and the 3 soaked Americans (us), we didn't want to leave the wonderful people at the CPM! Stop by - you will NOT be disappointed! Sante!

Yelp
I think this place speaks for itself. It doesn't need reviews but I want to leave one if only so I have a reminder of where to go when I'm in the region next. We had a tasting of 4 whites (all Chardonnays) and 2 reds (pinots). Of course everything was excellent, but one of the wines, the 2012 Saint Aubin 1er Cru, stands out as the best Chardonnay I've ever tasted. If my husband and I weren't traveling and living out of a suitcase for several months we would have bought a few bottles of this. It makes me sad to think I may never see this wine again, but I'll try my best to find it somewhere, someday.
