Unfortunately, our stay at this hotel in Basel was extremely disappointing and stressful, and absolutely not what we expected from a hotel at this price level.
I booked and paid for a Deluxe Room, while my sister booked a Superior Room. Upon arrival, I was told that I had been “upgraded to a Classic Room,” which made no sense at all, as Classic is a lower category than Deluxe, and I had already paid more. In reality, the only difference between my room and my sister’s was a tea kettle, nothing else.
Housekeeping was very poor. Cleaning consisted of quickly making the bed, leaving a bottle of water, and leaving the room. That’s it. No proper cleaning at all. Even basic amenities like toothbrushes were not provided, and I had to go down to reception to ask for them myself.
I also requested a high floor through Booking, but was placed on the second floor with no explanation.
Parking was another frustrating issue. We were told we could park the car, but no one explained that we would be charged every time we exited. I paid 40 CHF the first time, and only later—after contacting Booking.com—did we finally get a clear explanation from a staff member named Jessica. After that, the hotel tried to adjust the parking price as a form of compensation, but this only happened after a lot of unnecessary stress.
One of the reception staff members had a very rude and unprofessional attitude. Every time we raised a concern, her responses were dismissive and unpleasant. Instead of listening, we were made to feel like we were the problem.
My sister’s room was also not properly cleaned at all, and when we complained, the response was basically “this is all we can do.” At one point, they even said housekeeping would only come once per day and nothing more, as if basic cleanliness is an unreasonable request.
We came to Basel to relax and enjoy our trip, not to constantly chase staff for basic services we already paid for. Throughout our stay, we were polite and respectful, yet we were met with poor service, bad attitude, and lack of transparency.
This hotel seriously needs to improve:
Room category transparency
Housekeeping standards
Staff attitude and communication
Clear information about extra charges (like parking)
Overall, this was a very disappointing experience, and I would not recommend this hotel unless major changes are made.
