This hotel is excellently located, right by numerous tram stops, and we found getting around Basel (and further afield) very straightforward.
The staff were all really friendly. We enquired at check-in about the cost to upgrade our room. It was only 20 francs per night, but the only differences would be an espresso machine and bathrobes, so we saved the money.
We stayed in room 403. It was clean and large enough, with modern lighting. The bed was a king, but with 2 separate duvets. Unfortunately the bed was really too firm and gave us both sore backs.
I also found the 2 doors to the bathroom to be very odd. The weird thing with the doors though was that even though there were 2 bathroom doors, there was only one light switch - so I really have no idea why there was the other door by the bed.
There was no light switch when you came in, and you have to put the keycard in a slot for the lights. That's fine, but it turns on all the lights full blast and automatically makes the blind go up - not ideal as our room faced a busy office building.
Our room faced the main road and I found it very loud. The noise of the trams and people kept me up, and woke me up numerous times. It also meant we had to sleep with the window closed, which would be fine but the room was really, really warm. There's some eco-friendly system that doesn't let you really change the temperature at all in the room.
Our maid wasn't great - we never got new glasses and the bed wasn't made well. But the room didn't seem dirty.
Due to the convenient location, the hotel suited us. But while we would definitely return to the lovely Basel, I think we wouldn't return to the Pullman.
