Pumalín Douglas Tompkins National Park

Honestly the best reserved camping experience I’ve had. The stewards met me at midnight after the ferry rolled in to show me where to put our tent. That would never happen in America 😂

The north section of Pumalin National Park features the hidden waterfalls and Chaiten Volcano. I recommend both attractions and am unable to decide which one I prefer. Regardless, the trail signage at either attraction is abysmal at best in my opinion. I wasted 15 or 20 minutes being lost between points 2 and 3 due to almost no indication about which way to go. In short, the hiker must cross the river between points 2 and 3. Point 5 is the last opportunity to refill a bottle with stream water. The view at final point 9 is rewarding. There's at least one picnic table at point 9. The trail to Chaiten Volcano and Cascadas Escondidas are both out and back hikes. The visitor should remain aware of a fork in the path to the lower waterfalls. The detour down, then back up may be steep but the view is worth the effort.

A beautiful park with great facilities. Good information available on day hikes from the park offices. Paths and campsites are well maintained. Lovely place to walk a section of the Caratel Austral. The trip into the park from Puerto Montt is also beautiful (bus, drive or hitch via ferry).

Well maintained and minimal human interference. Gorgeous views and hikes, truly one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to.

A must.

Me encantó el lugar. Hice el sendero al ventisquero y de intensidad media a baja. Hay un sendero de 4 km más plano. No se cobra entrada pero si los sitios de camping que funcionan solo en verano

Amo este parque y ya he venido varias veces a recorrer sus senderos. Ojala todos tengan la oportunidad de conocerlo. Pero es lamentable la administracion de conaf en el parque, ya solo se preocupan de mantener los campings que es lo que genera ingresos y tienen totalmente botados los senderos. Hice el sendere del volcan michinmahuida y quede rajuñada entera, en varias partes ni se ve el sendero por el crecimiento de las plantas, algo que se podria evitar mandando a una sola persona con un machete. En el sendero la laguna tronador hay muchos de los escalones rotos y asi podria seguir con los distintos senderos. Ojala esto se arregle pronto y se pongan las pilas porque es demasiado hermosa la naturaleza de este parque y seria una pena que siga decayendo bajo la administración de la conaf.
