Having been here before for coffee, I decided to give their breakfast options a try. From my previous visit, I’d learned that this bakery was established in 1986 — nearly 40 years ago, making it an old classic in Kathmandu’s food scene.
On a fine morning, we headed to their busy Thamel location for breakfast. We ordered the Hearty American, a Grilled Chicken Pesto Sandwich, a cappuccino, and a masala tea.
The Hearty American came with a chicken sausage, bacon, an egg of choice, some veggies, two slices of brown bread, and butter/jam. Each element tasted fresh and flavorful, making for a satisfying, filling breakfast. The grilled chicken pesto sandwich was delicious too, with tender grilled chicken, caramelised onions, tomatoes, and a generous layer of pesto on their homemade ciabatta bread — though the bread was a little harder than I’d have liked.
The cappuccino lived up to my expectations — easily among the best in town — while the masala tea was pleasant.
Prices are on the higher side, but given the prime Thamel location and the quality offered, it feels justified. The bakery occupies an entire three-story building, with plenty of seating across floors.
A solid spot for coffee, breakfast, and cakes, with a nostalgic charm and quality that has kept it going for decades.
