Great location but the property needs love I booked a one-week stay but ended up leaving the same night. The location is amazing — right in the heart of the city with fantastic food options all around. However, the building itself feels very tired and neglected. My room wasn’t anything like the photos and had a strong chemical smell throughout. Staff were lovely and understanding, and I was able to get a partial refund. With some proper maintenance and refurbishment, this place could really shine.

The bed was amazing, so very comfortable. The staff were friendly, helpful and made our stay enjoyable. Centrally located to China town food was abundant. Great location to walk to many theatres, hotels and shopping. The unit might have been a little dated, but it was so welcoming and very comfortable. We will definitely return.

Pros: Walking distance to various places. Cons: some other clientele, and the specific staff we dealt with It was a cheap place, one of the cheapest online. So I didn't have high expectations. But even with the low expectations, this was disappointing overall. Stayed 2 nights out of the 3 and just left before the 3rd night. Didn't even get a refund for the night we didn't stay.We found blood and a bandaid in/on the pillowcases in the room we were sleeping in, and when we told the guy there, instead of being understanding about it, he constantly tried to frame it as "are you sure these are not your pillowcases, because they're not ours" and counter-argued about the fact that we had brought a dog and didn't pay the $250 dog cleaning fee (despite us following all steps correctly, I don't know why we weren't charged that, but it's a tiny non-shedding dog that didn't make a mess anyway, so they didn't lose anything). I agreed to take time out of the event that I was at to come back to the hotel for an earlier checkout so they can sell the room to someone else, and we can talk about it to resolve it, but despite agreeing about it, he wasn't there, and there was another staff member instead. She suggested we can move to another room, but I had lost all desire to stay with the whole way it was handled and how my time was wasted and unrespected, even though I came back earlier than I usually would (came at an agreed 4pm to give them time to clean it out and sell it. to someone else, instead of the usual ~8-9pm)Unfortunately, we couldn't amicably resolve it by moving to another punthill location and I was put off by how they handled the whole situation, so we just decided not to stay another night. I didn't even ask for a refund for the night because of the whole argument about "we didn't pay the pet fee, but we'll waive that for you".I don't need to comment too much on the other reasons we didn't like the hotel, as I understand the hotel cannot completely control the types of clientele they get and it was a cheap place, so obviously set your expectations in line with that knowledge. But they can definitely control how they handle a situation and how they treat customers, especially patient ones.

After initially reading the reviews, I was worried. Those worries were unfounded. I felt very safe, room was comfortable, and the bed was sooooo nice. Rooms could do with a paint, but that didn't affect my stay at all. Central to so many things, great Chinese food at Shanghai Street, and coffee right across the road. Traveled solo and would recommend to anyone looking for budget stay with all the comforts.

The hotel was very disappointing. No room housekeeping throughout our Easter break. The carpet in room is disgusting, needs a steam clean. Shower doesn't work in one of the rooms and luckily we had a connecting room with another shower. Lounge is so uncomfortable to sit on due to being a fold out bed. Asked for extra towels but never got them. Bathrooms were smelly. Toilet seat doesn't stay up. Generally the overall condition of the rooms was disappointing and the only good thing going for it was the location.

I stayed this week to go see Critical Role, and the customer service was great, and very accomodating:) the apartment was really neat and tidy, and was perfect for my stay. Only things missing imo was a teeny oven (there was a microwave!) and a dishwasher but that’s more because I hate washing dishes haha They were in the middle of a refresh of the common areas during my stay but it didn’t impact anything and while the prep did make my floors corridors look a little tired it’s gonna look fabulous when it’s done. The bed was huge and snuggly, the couch was great and I fell asleep on it a few times! Everything and everyone was really nice and I’d definitely come back :) Location was fantastic too - close to everything I needed and wanted. I feel I got a bargain for a whole apartment for the price of an inner city hotel room.

I stayed for a long weekend, and was very comfortable. The hotel felt safe and secure, and had everything I needed. Great location (very quick to get to HMT to see Hadestown!) and while there was a little bit of noise from outside the building in the evening (as you expect in the city) it didnt disturb me and I still easily fell asleep. They are in the middle of refurbishing the hotel so there are some parts that look a little but shabby or unfinished, but everything was clean and I didn't experience any of the issues other reviews have mentioned. Helpful and friendly staff. Vesh is a real gem!

I've had quite a life threatening situation at this motel. Severe asthma attacks and allergies caused by filthy black mold, dust, grime. The photos are not advertised. My friend and I were still going to book 2 nights and he said yes the hotel manager. Now the hotel woman says they already made a booking for our room and we can be moved to another room for 359.00 per night. Oh no way. Please don't come here if you're considering.

Yelp
This weary traveller turned up at 1:30am after a delayed flight and discovered at this point that Punthill Lt Bourke does not have a 24-hour reception. Oops. I've gone back to the (third party, but very reputable and has not steered me wrong before) website I made the booking through and confirmed that it does state 24-hour reception as one of the hotel's features. It's something pretty important to this late-night flight-catcher, and had I known otherwise I would have been able to call ahead... instead of seeing the darkened front room as I approached and feeling the palpitations kick off in my chest. There was an intercom I was able to use to dial through to "after hours", which was a very helpful gentleman at one central switchboard for all Punthill locations, who gave me codes to get into the building and then to get my key. That all worked well but at 1:30am it wasn't what I wanted to be going through. Plus I'd already been planning my sweet-talk into a room upgrade in the taxi on the way over, and now I had nobody to deliver it to, only an envelope with my name on it to collect from a safe. The room was fine, the bath/shower fixtures were a nightmare to work out (seriously the number of times I have filled a bath using the shower because I can't work out how to get the taps to switch over properly = NUMEROUS), checkout was easy as my room was prepaid, and Punthill were happy to keep my bag stored in a conference room while I sauntered around all day. But I won't need to stay here again.

Yelp
This place was advertised online as offering free wifi and a complimentary breakfast and parking. Not one of these things eventuated. In a small lane in china town Melbourne, the front of the building looks clean and modern. Unfortunately of the 4 people who booked in and paid for 2 seperate rooms, only one of us was on the system and as only having booked 1 room with 1 bed. The receptionist -Jodie- looked like a battered soccer mum, with hair dyed burgundy, a downward turned mouth, sarcastic and pointedly rude customer service. From the moment we walked in she behaved as if we were lying about our booking and that we just wanted to scam the establishment. She called head office twice before lecturing us on how she was not wrong about our group booking. When I enquired about why our wifi wasn't working she replied "Not everything is free you know" Wait a sec, have I recieved any freebies from you? The Apartment was not clean, the "balcony" door doesn't lock, the whole area was draughty, the seals on the putside doors had perished long ago, the room did not look like the picture, there is no customer support at all and we were redirected to the most expensive parking spaces available after calling reception twice to find out which one they were affiliated with. We found a much cheaper option a lot closer to the hotel after we were offered a "deal" of $19 per exit. Great location, but service is utterly Abysmal.
