Purana Qila is one of the oldest forts in Delhi and a wonderful place to explore history. The big gates, strong stone walls, and wide courtyards show the beauty of old times. The fort area is clean, peaceful, and full of greenery, which makes it a nice place to walk around and relax. It’s less crowded than many other monuments, so you can enjoy your visit comfortably. There is also a boating area and an evening light and sound show that tells the story of Delhi’s history. It’s a must-visit place for anyone who loves heritage and calm spots in the city.

Visited Purana Qila on a sunny afternoon and overall, it was a pleasant experience. The fort has a peaceful vibe, and the ancient architecture gives a good glimpse into Delhi’s historical past. The massive gates, old walls, and quiet gardens make it a nice place to explore if you’re interested in heritage sites. The Archaeological Museum inside is small but informative, and the boating area nearby adds a nice touch. However, the place could be better maintained in some areas — especially the lawns and cleanliness near the entrance. Still, it’s worth a visit if you enjoy history and want to escape the usual city rush for a while. It’s not the most exciting monument in Delhi, but definitely a calm and underrated spot.

Purana Qila is one of the oldest forts in Delhi and a wonderful place to experience history. The massive gateways, stone walls, and wide courtyards really take you back in time. I visited on a rainy day, and the fort looked even more beautiful with wet stone walls, fresh greenery, and calm surroundings. The monsoon weather added a peaceful charm, and walking through the quiet lanes in the drizzle felt like stepping into another era. It’s less crowded compared to other monuments, which makes it perfect for exploring at your own pace. There’s also a boating area and a light & sound show in the evening that brings Delhi’s history alive. A must-visit for anyone who loves heritage and serene spots inside the city.

Purana Qila (meaning Old Fort) is one of the oldest and most iconic forts in Delhi, with a history that spans thousands of years. It sits right next to the Delhi Zoo and is a fascinating blend of Mughal architecture and much older archaeological heritage. --- 🏛 History & Significance Ancient Roots: Archaeological findings suggest the site may date back to the Indus Valley Civilization and was possibly part of the ancient city of Indraprastha mentioned in the Mahabharata. Modern Structure: The fort as we see it today was built by Sher Shah Suri (1540–1545 AD) and later modified by Humayun. The area has seen continuous settlement for over 2,500 years. --- 🏯 Architecture Built mainly with red sandstone. Surrounded by massive thick walls and bastions. Has three main gates: 1. Bara Darwaza (West Gate – still in use) 2. Humayun Gate (South Gate) 3. Talaqi Gate (North Gate – “Forbidden Gate”) Includes mughal-era gardens, mosques, and step wells (baolis). --- 📌 Main Attractions Inside Purana Qila 1. Qila-i-Kuhna Mosque – Built by Sher Shah Suri in 1541; showcases Indo-Islamic architecture. 2. Sher Mandal – A two-storey octagonal tower built by Humayun, used as a library and observatory (tragically, Humayun died here in 1556 after falling down the stairs). 3. Archaeological Museum – Displays artifacts from the Mauryan to Mughal periods.

A fort is a very beautiful structure in itself it tells us stories of history and ancient craftsmanship. One such example is this old fort that I recently visited. The place was quite peaceful, and due to the monsoon, there was a lot of greenery around. Although the fort isn’t very large, it's good enough for a one-time visit. Right next to the fort is a lake where boating is available, but unfortunately, the lake was quite dirty. In my opinion, a bit more attention should be given to cleanliness at such tourist spots. Inside the fort, there’s also a museum, which I found very interesting. It houses old coins, statues, and artifacts likely discovered during excavations. If you’d like to visit, you definitely can. For Indian tourists, the entry fee for the fort, lake, and museum together is ₹45 per person. If you only wish to visit the fort, the price is ₹15 per head.

Old Fort (Purana Qila) is one of Delhi’s oldest and most impressive monuments. The massive gateways, ancient walls, and wide lawns make it a peaceful escape from the city’s hustle. The museum inside shares interesting history, and the boating area outside adds charm. It’s less crowded than other attractions like Red Fort, so you can explore at your own pace. Some areas need better upkeep, but overall it’s a must-visit for history lovers and photographers.

One of the most underrated places in Delhi, you'll find lesser public as compared to other historical monuments here. You can get down at Supreme Court metro and take a 5 minute auto ride to get here. The roads nearby are well built, well connected to other parts of Delhi. The entry charges were 45 rupees for both Qila and its lake ( For Indians) and it was open till 6.30pm. It was green, inner roads very well maintained and lots of raw places inside to explore (Indraprastha excavations, museum, escape caves etc). You can visit the lake which has maintained pathways right beside it. The monument is built on the banks of the lake itself. You can see a lot of ducks and swans swimming in it. There is a light and sound show in the evenings that you can attend. The ticket for the show is 100 rupees. As I speak, it is closed currently due to maintenance and upgradation work. The fort is a beautiful place to spend an evening. The gardens are well maintained and the atmosphere is very peaceful. It is a great place for a picnic with family and friends. You can also visit the Delhi Zoo which is located right next to the fort.

The fort is in a bit ruins but well preserved. Some structures are still in a good condition. Not a must visit I would say, but yeah if you got time on your hands, you can visit it.
