14 Best Spas in San Francisco | Condé Nast Traveler

"This is a great location for anyone who is staying at the hotels around Union Square, and is in the market for either a soothing or deep tissue massage. Pure Organic Spa, unsurprisingly, focuses on organic products. Upon arrival, massage clients are presented with a set of nine organic oils to choose from." - Elise Craig

Booked a last-minute massage here. The greeting wasn't as warm when I walked in, but I did get a smile. The experience was nice, but when massaging my feet, the therapist didn't touch my feet. She massaged it with the covers over it. That wasn't an experience I have had before and thought it was very odd. The service served its purpose for sure for a last-minute appointment on a business trip. The environment was also clean and quiet for the most part. It was a little colder for me in the room, but I'm from a very warm climate, so the warm bed did its best.

Google

I loved this spot! Parking is hard to find in streets, but we found a valet parking lot a block away from spa. Went on a sister spa day, and it was perfect. So relaxing and just amazing. First time here, but we both booked an appointment for another massage in a month. Wish facials were available, but due to Covid they are not. Lenn and Sonia were wonderful!

Google
Had a great first appointment and booked a second. The receptionist made it very clear about their stringent cancellation policy after 24-hour window has passed for customers. Yet they don't hold themselves to the same policy. Not even an hour before my appointment, as I was in route to Pure Organic Spa, I received a call from the receptionist stating that my massage therapist was unable to do my massage. The receptionist did not provide a suitable alternative and my appointment was cancelled. Unfortunately, I won't be going back.

Google
I cannot wait to return, it has been over 3 months and I don't stop thinking about the amazing deep tissue I had here. Thank you so much!! A good massage is hard to find and my masoose gave me the most considerate one I have ever had! I can't say it enough I am really looking forward to scheduling again with him! The organic products are all really enjoyable and I appreciated the variety of scented oils to choose from, I'm often very picky. While here I also had a facial which was pretty great, I think things could've gone better, but that happens to me everywhere I go. The elements are all there I'll just say that much. When I return I will book the same package it was a great experience all together and I left feeling like my posture and comfort on my short walk home was improved! Amazing, truly! Please pure organic spa don't ever change, integrity in a business is so hard to find!

Google
Very disappointed! First of all the room was so hot & this in 3.00 pm. Room was smaller than my Bathroom in the apartment. I started having anxiety with the ambiance & as Jed Sonya to stop & wanted to leave. Pls don’t get deceived by those pictures as this place is old , dark & dingy place. Btw they charged full 130. On my credit card without giving me any credit for 5 mins I was there, Ambiance of the spa is everything. Would not recommend!

Google
Therapist poked around for an hour - very lackadaisical. I had gone in because my shoulder was stiff and therapist kept digging deep into my shoulder until her nails starting digging into my skin. I had to ask her to stop. My shoulder still hurts from that, a few days later. I’d avoid.

Google
One of the best massages I've ever received. The technique was some kind of ayurvedic massage and it was so calming a relaxing. This is a great stop if you've spent the day walking around the hills of the city.

Yelp
Was in need of a massage so I decided to check this place out. I called in advance to book my appointment. The location is near Union Square and it is located on a busy street. They advise to come 15 minutes earlier to account for parking. The location itself is hidden but there's a sign outside that helps you spot it. It's located on the third floor and oh my goodness the elevator there is SO sketchy. It's extremely small (barely enough room for 2 ppl), makes a lot of noises and not to mention really bouncy (goes up and down). This made me worrisome but once I got to the third floor I was presented with a beautiful, well decorated lobby. I got the Swedish massage for 60 minutes for $120. I actually arrived early and waited for my appointment time which was at 2 pm. My masseuse, Jesse, called me in at around 2. She asked if there were any focus areas, injuries and preference for pressure. Throughout the session, the pressure was great and I felt relaxed the whole time. I got quickly got ready and saw the clock was at 2:05 when we started. She finished right at 3 pm which was actually only 55 mins of massage time. I know it's only 5 mins but if I'm paying a good amount of money then I'd expect them to track the time more closely. There was no water or anything provided after the massage unlike other parlors (which usually give you tea). Overall, I did enjoy my massage. However, I'll still looking to explore other parlors for the same price point.

Yelp
Received a deep tissue massage (60mins) from Lenn and she was amazing! While giving me a massage, she was giving me tips on ways to make my paint points less painful at home. I barely told her where my paint points were. She could instantly tell where they were on my body and focused on those points. I came in really sore and stiff and left feeling way better and light! Highly recommend Lenn! I will definitely come back.

Madelene J.

Yelp
Experience was okay. I was looking forward to some hot tea and snack after the (as was advertised on other reviews). Maybe they don't serve on a Sunday? The experience was a bit impersonal. It felt more like "masage and bye" feel. My masseuse was good. My friend said she really enjoyed her massage. With so many spas in the area and with what's touted on the website, we were just expected to be a more relaxed, zen feel.
google avatar

Farrah V.

Yelp
Worst massage ever, It was obvious the therapist was sick. She had tissues stuffed up her nose and claimed she had allergies. Her technique for a deep tissue was lack luster. Only used hands and never arms or elbows. We had to pay a 50 percent fee to reschedule because we were stuck in traffic and couldn't make our original appointment. This place is all around horrible and I would never give them my business again.

Yelp
I reserved a 90 mins couples massage for my husband and me with Sonia and Lenn. Not sure who we each got, but they were both so fantastic! My husband said his massage therapist really helped with his knots even though it was just a Swedish massage, and made sure to check in with the pressure. I had a crack in my right shoulder that went away after the session. The couples room was very big, and the massage tables were heated. We went on a Monday midday and got the early bird special so it was a great value! We were originally going to give a 20% tip, but expectations were much exceeded, we ended up giving each masseuse $40 each. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
There were 4 of us who decided to have spa services at this location. 2 massages and 2 facials. I gave it 3 stars because the facility was clean, the ambiance was nice and the massages were good, but the facials were, how to say it politely, "meh!". Most of the time was spent exfoliating the skin. There was no facial massage whatsoever :( My esthetician said she was a massage therapist for 8 years before becoming an esthetician, so I thought to myself, SCORE! She will be amazing! Yeah, not so much! Would we go again? Nope!

Mollie P.

Yelp
Sonia was wonderful! I wish I could take her back to Texas with me! So nice and so talented. I had a 90 minute Swedish massage and I have nothing but good things to say. The outside sign is small and so is the hall to the also small elevator. The minute you get to the third floor, the elevator door opens up to a beautiful spa. What a lovely hidden gem!
google avatar

Yelp
Wow - what a great first experience at Pure Organic Spa. I found them on yelp and will definitely come back. Look at the pictures so you know what the outside looks like, or you may walk right by the door (like I did!). Yes the elevator is small and old, but this is San Francisco. Tenzin greeted me at the door and she was very pleasant. They actually are much larger than it looks with rooms that go all the way to the back. They offer massages (inc couples massage room) and facials with a gender neutral bathroom and makeup area. They give you the option of which oil you would like for your massage. Take your time and read the descriptions- and smell them all! I choose peppermint for my stress and tension, plus it smells good. Gayle was absolutely amazing for a deep tissue massage. Since it was my first visit, I choose the 60 minute session and wished I would have gone longer. She knew exactly what areas to massage with the tight spots in my back and neck. I felt very comfortable with her instantly. This massage is not for the weak and timid- that's for sure- but it's exactly what I wanted. A++ for Gayle! Then to top it off, I had a small plate of almonds and cranraisins along with water and lemongrass & pandan tea waiting for me back in the lobby, which was a really nice touch. Tenzin gave me another serving too! Definitely check this place out. I've already recommended this spa - and Gayle- to 2 of my friends. Thank you for an awesome experience for an experienced massage lover.

Yelp
I had a wonderful massage at this spa this morning with Lenn. She had a wonderful intuition and her hands are very healing. I am sensitive to energy and very psychic so I can tell! I will definitely be back next time I am in SF!

Yelp
I've been here a few times and the massages have always been great! Regardless of who I've had, I always leave feeling rejuvenated. I've removed a few stars because of the front desk. I just called after seeing bookings available online and was that the masseuse is on call and unlikely to want to come in, even with an hour or two notice. They also mentioned that the location closes at 6 PM during the week, despite the notice of 8 pm on yelp and google. Would recommend planning ahead and confirming massage appointments ahead of time to make sure you don't run into the challenges I've encountered.

Yelp
Give yourself ample time to get there. Our Bart train ran into issues and we were 15 minutes late, and in turn they shorted us 30 minutes out of our 90 minutes massage. LAME right? If i knew they were going to short us on time I would've rescheduled us for another day. We arrived for a couples massage, pretty much two in a room with the curtain open in between. We got the deep tissue massage, but mine felt more like a swedish massage, I asked for more pressure but it stayed around the same. Oddly enough it wasn't much different than a cheaper $40 one hour asian stop in shop massages. I mean the ambience was way better than one of those but for the huge price difference I may just take it. Down to the weird ear massage that they give at those places. Plus a star for the ambience. The elevator is a small creaky one but once the door opens on the 3rd floor you're greeted by the front desk. You're taken to a couch to fill out some forms (pick your scent) and enjoy a refreshing glass of cucumber water. After the massages you get a plate of dried fruits (craisins on this day) and more cucumber water and leave as you like. My masseuse seemed out of breath 10 minutes into my massage (i mean I'm not stick skinny, but I'm not overweight), he was definitely breathy throughout the massage. It's a shame, this place has really high reviews, but based on my experience and some of the others... I don't think I'll be returning to this establishment for this type of service with these prices.
google avatar

Angel P.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I got a couples message and I really liked that this place did not charge us extra for a couples massage it was the same price as an individual massage which rarely happens. My back was so tight but I left feeling like I had a whole new body.

Yelp
Pure Organic Spa is tucked away in San Francisco ( I took a picture of the entrance because we actually passed it on our first pass). You have to ride an older elevator to the third floor to reach the spa. It's a small space but has a great ambiance! We were promptly greeted and had fill out an intake form (standard form I take form). Within a few minutes of finishing the form, I was greeted by Gayle who brought me back. Gayle was very thorough in asking what I wanted done in the massage. I told Gayle I was sore in tight in my lower back, hips, and IT bands from the gym. She confirmed I wanted deep tissue and warned me I'd be sore the next day. I've never been sore from a massage and in my head though "ya, ya , sure I'll be sore." Gayle focused on my problem areas and gave a real deep tissue massage. I don't think up until this point I've had a real deep tissue massage (as Gayle mentioned she used more sports therapy techniques). Hands down one of the best massages I've ever had , it was a bit more painful, but it's exactly what I needed and I felt so good after. I was a bit sore that evening , but resolved after sleeping. I wish I lived in San Francisco so I could Go back to see Gayle! If you're looking for an amazing massage, go see Gayle!

Yelp
Jessie is hands down the best masseuse for deep tissue! I'll go out of my way just to book with her - she's communicative and has an intuitive style that responds to how your body's feeling that day - you're gonna be well taken care of whether you're assertive with what you want or not. Just a heads up! If you're booking through their website, be sure to select the name of the masseuse you want to book with *before* selecting the day/time. This is the only way to guarantee you book with your favorite masseuse. Definitely coming back again!

Yelp
Really disappointed in the experience I had here. Recently went in for a prenatal massage and off the bat was disappointed to see they didn't make use of a massage pillow designed for this so I could lay face down, I was on my side for the whole massage. During my consolation, the masseuse asked if I had any specific issues, I said not really but I have chronic lower back issues and massage usually helps. Cut to- she didn't touch my lower back once. She focused primarily on my shoulders which was o.k. but the whole massage felt more like bodywork than a massage. She wouldn't let me relax as she kept instructing me of how to and when to breathe. She also made moaning noises herself as if she were trying to cue "this should feel good". It was kind of awkward. On top of all this, her phone rang during the massage. I made it a point to shut my phone off completely so I wouldn't be disturbed and she neglected to offer the same courtesy. She was apologetic but then I had to wait as she fumbled with her phone to turn it off. This next part is my fault because she asked how the pressure was and I said it was fine but it was strong. Like really strong. But if she, as the professional, thought that's what it took to work on my muscles I was going to let her do it (although I did let out an "ow" at one point). I should've said to lighten up because that night my shoulders were so sore they felt almost sunburned. The masseuse said I should "sleep well" that night. I'm 7 months pregnant, I don't sleep well as it is so I was hopeful but, no. I was so sore my sleep was even more disturbed than usual. And all this didn't come cheap! It was on par with or more expensive than other, better places in the city. I'm giving 2 stars opposed to 1 because the atmosphere was relaxing and clean and the woman at the front desk was very nice but when you're pregnant and your body is a vessel for the life of another, it's kind of scary to put yourself in the hands of someone else and I won't be doing that again here, pregnant or not.

Yelp
Was in town on a business trip and scheduled a quick pampering session. This place is delightful. It's much bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside. Before getting your massage, there is a buffet of organic massage oils to choose from. I had the signature facial which was relaxing and educational, and a 30 minute massage that had me drooling for more. At the end of your service, you can enjoy a spread of warm tea, almonds and dried fruit, set out especially for you. Highly recommend this spa!
google avatar

Roxy S.

Yelp
Had such a wonderful combination of treatments here that I had to review! First the facial was fantastic - so relaxing and I really appreciated the detail the esthetician went into regarding my skin sensitivities. Then the deep tissue massage with Sonia was perfect. Managed to get deep into the knots and be super flowy and relaxing. Really enjoyed it. I really think compared to other downtown SF spas this place is the right price and actually do a good job! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Pros: same day appointment. Lovely decor. Relaxing, pleasant atmosphere. Orange infused water, almond and cranberry snacks, and a delicious tea served post treatment. Hot, moist towel to clean up with post massage, for those who don't want oily clothes. Pleasant music. Heated massage table. Cons: price is a little high for a 60 minute swedish massage for where I'm from, but probably in line with city prices. You choose your essential oil, but I never smelled anything. They miss the opportunity for little extras like wafting the essential oil fragrance under the head rest, covering eyes with a cloth when you turn over, putting hot towels or stones on your feet or hands. The hot towel they did give me smelled musty and like it had sat wet in the washing machine too long. My therapist was fine, but nothing spectacular. I guess I'm used to therapeutic massage where my knots get worked. Swedish seems more like just rubbing and sliding the hands over the skin, less muscle work. Personal preference on that one. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and would return, though I would purchase a different type of massage.

Yelp
Through a friend I discovered the MassageNow app and booked a massage. I had no idea which spa I would be matched with until selected the time and purchased my massage. I was informed it would be at Pure Organic Spa. I didn't know what to expect since I had never used the app and I had never been to this spa. The elevator opens on the 3rd floor to a beautiful desk and a very kind and friendly receptionist. I arrived a bit early because there is usually paper work, the receptionist explained the paper work and asked if I wanted tea (great customer service). My therapist greeted me when I finished my paperwork and led me to the room to change for the massage. She asked for the pressure and worked on my shoulders. She was good and worked on my knots. After the treatment I was offered more tea, water, almonds, and dry fruit which was a nice touch. Down sides: Unfortunately, there is constructions going on and you can hear it, even with the music. She didnt place a pillow under my legs or neck during the massage (at any spa I have received both) nor did I receive an eye cover when I was asked to turn and the light was a bit disruptive to the zen.

Yelp
*this review is only for the massage technique: the spa itself is incredibly lovely, and the staff is very professional, and my massage therapist had great bed side manners*. I found the place via yelp based on amazing reviews and had pretty high expectations. I am a massage snob, I care deeply about the technique and get massages every 2-3 weeks. I do not care about the ambiance of the place and have tried all spas from very high end ones all the way to cheap hole in the wall places. All I care about is really good technique and unfortunately my experience with Lenlen did not deliver on that. I have asked her, on numerous occasions, to go very deep and hard. Asked her to only focus on upper back since we only had 60 mins and I wanted her to work through all my tight spots, especially In lower back. Her deep massage was either too painful with the elbow pressed in one spot - without moving - for what felt like an eternity or massage with her fingers which felt more Swedish and surface-level, but nothing in between. I love the elbows - and the deep pressure - but it has to be more movement, like a dance, rather than just holding it in one place. She also massaged over my spine a couple of times, which is not good practice. Again, the rating is solely based on the massage technique - she is lovely otherwise - but I would def not be going back. In fact, after 60 mins of upper back, I still asked my husband to touch up some of those lower back spots that evening at home, which I would not expect to need to do on the same day of the professional massage. If you are looking for a good deep tissue experience, I would not recommend this place/therapist.

Yelp
I booked a couples massage here for the bf and I to celebrate our anniversary. We booked the day before which is super last second, but their online appointment form was super easy and they had some openings in the evening which was perfect. Arriving there, we were immediately attended to by the receptionist, who offered water and asked us to write out our massage preferences on a form. My masseuse was Chris, and upon going into, he asked if there were any trouble areas I wanted him to focus on, etc. For 60 minutes, it was a very relaxing experience. Chris definitely focused on the knots in my shoulders and asked here and there how the pressure was. One thing is I wish they turned up the music a bit, it was a bit awkward how quiet it was in the room. I left feeling good, although given the price, it wasn't 100% worth it if you ask me. My boyfriend agreed that while his masseuse was lovely, we had definitely had better massages in the past more worth our buck. After leaving our rooms, we were offered some tea, almonds, and dry fruit which was a nice touch. Overall, I think you pay the most for the aesthetic. The massages are alright but a bit too pricey.

Yelp
Ok, so the elevator ride to the 3rd floor was a bit scary, but so worth it! Your greeted by a receptionist as soon as the elevator opens and immediately the environment is soothing and relaxing. I didn't even have to make an appointment which was perfect. The receptionist gave me a form to fill out (standard procedure) and offered me water and I was asked to choose from the oils selection of which the masseuse would use on me. I chose the Serene...lovely. I asked to use the restroom before my massage, upon my return, the masseuse was there to greet me. The masseuse reached out her hand to shake mine and said, "Hi I am Len" with a very firm handshake. I said, "I'm Ernesto and I can tell this is going to be a great massage by your handshake". Len was absolutely AMAZING! When we got to the room, she asked what areas that I wanted her to focus on. I let her know that is was the right side of my neck and back that hurts the most. She asked a few more questions to narrow down why I may be having those pains, then addressed me to change and lay on the table and she would return. Len went to town and was determined to get the knots out of my back. I didn't even realize it was so bad. It hurt, but I pushed through and Len was so professional about the experience. I felt the stress balls starting to get weaker and the pain getting less. After the massage, I felt and still feel amazing. My neck feels amazing and I can move it so much easier without any shooting pain. Len was amazing and because of her, I will return to Pure Organic Spa and request her! Thank you!!!!

Yelp
Taking a sick day off from work, I serendipitously booked a 90 min massage at this spa to help my achy body. The appointment was booked at 4PM on a Tuesday. The massage itself was amazing. My therapist was one of the best I have ever had in the city, hands down. So good that I decided to go to their website to book another appointment for next week. That's when I came across this advertisement on their website: http://pureorganicspa.co/specials/ Happy Hours Mon-Wed 11AM-4PM 20% off any 90 min services. Appointments required. I called to book my appointment on a Tuesday, scheduled at 4PM. I requested a 90 min massage. And I was charged FULL PRICE. I even asked about the price on the phone when I booked, and there was no mentioning of the special deal that fits EXACTLY my time slot and duration of service. So I called the spa today. Their response: "you have to mention the deal. It's like a coupon you have to tell us or we don't honor it." (everyone please see the screenshot of the deal--- NO mentioning of it being a coupon, or that the client needs to bring anything in to have the discount honored). If you have a special you advertise on your website, calling it HAPPY HOURS, making it public as part of your promotion to the clients, you should proactively offer that price upfront, not wait til the client discovers this and calls back and be told it was "really a coupon." If I walked into a bar during their happy hour, was it my responsibility to remind the bartender every time I ordered a drink so that I wouldn't be charged full price??!! To think I went to their website to discover this because I wanted to schedule another appointment. Pure Organic Spa, when you do that, you come across shady. You come across as if you NEVER wanted to offer that deal to your clients to begin with.

Yelp
A solid spa experience, and this is one I would come back to. Great location in just steps away from Union Square itself. Go to 518 Sutter Street (not 500 Sutter as you'll be quickly turned around by the grumpy guard there, ha), take the elevator up and the doors open right to the front desk. Love the subtle lighting and beautiful decor - I read somewhere that Pure Organic Spa was decorated by the Osha restaurant folks. It is just gorgeous inside and it is completely zen, feng shui, all of it, so lovely - I was actually studying the decor as I picked up a couple decorating tips! I filled out the welcome paperwork to let them know my preferences, any special medical conditions, trouble spots to focus my massage and where to avoid, and you can even pick the scent of oil they use (I chose lemongrass, which I liked very much, but lavendar was a close second). I showed up on time so my massage was on time which I greatly appreciated because I am a busy little woman after all. ;) Respecting time on both sides is a big plus. Sheehan came by, greeted me and smiled and led me down the hall to the lovely massage room - again lovely Osha decor! He asked me a few questions based on my paperwork and then we were set. The room was dimly lit with soft music, nice comfy massage bed/table. Niiiiice, great masseuse, I almost fell asleep, zzz.z.z..z.... After going to the golf driving range the other day, my arms and back were aching and Pure Organic Spa was the perfect place to soothe my sore muscles. Nice touch with the small tray of almonds and dried fruit, love the flavored water choices, love the cucumber water always. Easy check out and you're off to tend to the rest of your day. I had a Bloomspot deal and this was a perfect introductory, but their prices are reasonable enough. Hmm...I might be a new regular here. Thank you, Pure Organic Spa!

Yelp
I really enjoyed my time with Nancy. I purchased a 90 minute deep tissue massage and she was very attentive and focused on my troubled areas. She is very pleasant with a great sense of humor. If I ever get back to San Fran, I will be looking for Nancy. The spot is tucked away in a building. You must take the elevator to the 3rd floor to find them. They offer you water on the spot. The space was creative, artistic and clean. They have various scented oils and allow you to smell each to make a decision about which you want your masseuse to use.
google avatar

Kenna R.

Yelp
Love the ambience of the spa and that you get to select your own scented oil experience. My massage was definitely sub-par though. I bought a deep tissue massage and it was definitely more of the Swedish level. The masseuse was not adept at finding my knots and working through them...he kept finding them and then just moved along. He also seemed tired. I also asked to focus on my problem areas and too much time was spent on my legs and butt given that I wanted mostly back/neck work. But again, it wasn't a deep enough massage and I was left unsatisfied. The masseuse was pleasant and even gave me a slightly longer than 60 minute massage but it just wasn't effective enough for me. Likely wouldn't return since the quality of the massage is the most important aspect for me. If you like lighter touch, ambience and a more relaxation type experience then this is definitely a good place for you.

Yelp
I had a terrible experience. I felt so bad because my sister made the reservations and we had so hoped to have a wonderful time. My therapist told me that the bottom half of my body hated me and that the yoga practice that I participate in isn't correct for me. I left feeling body shamed and then was asked to tip via a post it note. I will never go to this spa again .

Yelp
I had a amazing massage therapist Lenn she listened to all my aches and pains, she had perfect pressure and worked on all the right areas. I have finally found my ideal massage lady which is hard to find! She also was happy to give me advice to help my back at the end of my treatment. Thank you Lenn!

Yelp
I had a great experience here. I too, came to this spa through MassageNow, an iPhone app that lets you book last-minute spa appointments at a discounted rate. I didn't realize there were a handful of people who had unpleasant experiences here until 10 minutes before I went to the spa, so I was definitely a bit nervous (especially since this massage was going to be done by a male therapist, something I've never tried before) Everything was fine. He did the full 60 minutes. I got my eye mask, no problem. I didn't lose anything here (granted, I also didn't bring anything besides cell phone and keys). The lighting was nice and dark. I didn't hear any construction. Everything you could ask for for a spontaneous massage trip! I love that you get to pick a scent for your massage oil from the wide variety that they had.

Yelp
My husband and I used to go here two years ago and loved it but we moved. Naturally when we visited we went to get massages. I don't know what happened in the last two years but the quality of massages has decreased significantly. I am in so much pain today and not the good post-massage pain. I let the therapist know twice that it hurts but she didn't seem to ease up at all. She tossed my head around like a basketball. It was honestly one of the worst massages I've ever gotten. If you want to try them, I would say get a shorter massage first to see how you like it.

Yelp
I have never given a negative review on yelp, but I feel compelled to do so. I believe everyone deserves a fair chance, but this was absolutely the WORST massage I have ever had in my life! The massage was not enjoyable in the slightest. The therapist was not receptive to my needs. I explained that I was there for relaxation and asked for the Swedish massage. The therapist kept applying deep pressure, despite me saying 3X the pressure was too much. Her massage technique is very quick movements and rough, which made me feel as if she was rushing. It reminded me of a toddler trying to give a massage with the little patience that they have. It was very difficult to relax. After the massage was over, I asked the receptionist if the therapist was new. I was told that she has been there for years and is one of their top therapists. I honestly don't know how that's possible, but okay. In my honest opinion, I would never recommend the therapist I had to anyone. I wish I knew her name. She was there on a Sunday evening. Please don't waste your money here! Go elsewhere!!!

Yelp
I was a little wary from some of the reviews, but the location was perfect next to the Grand Hyatt where my husband and I were staying and the price was reasonable AND we could get an appointment with short notice (within 24 hours). I am so happy we took the chance because we had a wonderful experience! I don't usually write reviews but I wanted to since I want to balance out some of the negative ones here on Yelp. We had the 90 minute signature couple's massage and the ambience was fantastic - very relaxing and peaceful and beautifully decorated. My therapist Len, gave me probably the best massage of my life and even provided me with some advice on my bad spinal alignment. I live in Seattle and will definitely request Len the next time I am in town!

Yelp
I was motivated to book my first massage at Pure Organic Spa because the photos of the space are aesthetically beautiful, and because they offer the convenience of online booking. Because who enjoys picking up the phone to go back and forth before settling on an appointment time? Not me. But, what I do enjoy is unwinding mentally and physically by way of a thoroughly relaxing massage! And honestly, I experienced one of the best I've ever had this past weekend. I knew I was in a for a real treat when I was first asked to choose an oil from a suite of soothing massage oils before being led to my treatment room. My lovely Norwegian masseuse Anna asked me what kind of pressure I prefer during our consultation for the signature massage treatment, and she delivered an expert combination of relaxing and deep, tension-eliminating handwork. 90 minutes of pure bliss because I'm worth it! After the massage was over (sniff), I was guided to a decompression area with cozy seating, stacks of current magazines, and a healthy snack consisting of jasmine tea, almonds and dried cranberries. What an excellent final touch! I would book another massage here in a heartbeat. And actually, I may have to create a reason to return sooner than expected!

Yelp
I had a HORRIBLE experience at Pure Organic Spa 1. I booked a 1:30pm appointment via massage now. I showed up and my massage wasn't scheduled in their system till 1:45pm (at least that's what the massage therapist told me). No big deal. 2. The massage therapist suggested I put my necklace on the bowl in the room. After my service concluded, I left without my necklace. I realized I left my necklace there 30 minutes after my massage. I IMMEDIATELY returned back to the spa. The client after me was still in there. She walks out of my room, the receptionist went in to check for my necklace and it was GONE! This is clear theft. I asked if anyone cleans the rooms between clients and they said no. Someone took my necklace. Either the client after me, the massage therapist or someone else walking by. It's their job to clean the room between clients. What's worse is that I have gotten NO support from the spa itself. They've been apathetic to the entire experience. I would NOT recommend somewhere that treats theft as if it's okay. They made no attempt to help or even seem concerned. Poor customer service.

Yelp
Lovely oasis in the midst of Union Square chaos - but if only the services were lovely. I hate to write a "bad" review but a follow up email from my appointment suggested I do so! I would not go here again. My 60 minute massage today by Chris was 45 minutes at best and mediocre to be generous. If the masseuse is late, I expect the massage to go over the scheduled end time. Nope. Chris talked the entire time and spoke in a very casual manner and very unpolished. So was his massage. It was pretty clear, he wasn't experienced. I wouldn't care/notice if this was a $1/minute spot in the mall but at $110/hr, I expect professionalism and a wonderful experience. My friends massage was "pretty good" but also nothing wonderful. Pretty disappointing esp on a special Mothers Day occasion. Would not recommend.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my afternoon at Pure Organic. Both my massage and detox facial were relaxing and beneficial. Both Lenn and Jessie were polite, knowledgeable and thorough.

Yelp
I used the MassageNow app for the first time so I had no idea where I was going to end up. Once I purchased my massage, I was informed it would be at Pure Organic Spa. I didn't know what to expect since I had never used the app and I had never been to this spa. I had a GREAT experience! The elevator opens on the 3rd floor to a beautiful desk and a very kind and friendly receptionist. I arrived a bit early because there is usually paper work and I didn't want a single minute to cut into my actual massage. I was assigned to a therapist named David. I explained that I have repetitive stress pain on my right from computer work and I had a pretty bad knot in my right shoulder blade from sleeping wrong. 60 minutes later, I felt great but was still tentative with turning my head or moving my arm too much. The next morning, the pain was COMPLETELY gone. Now this wasn't a severe sprain, but it was painful enough to wake me up a few times over the weekend. It was GONE. Thank you Pure Organic Spa, and especially to David for being such an intuitive, skilled massage therapist!

Yelp
I came here based on a few yelp reviews I read, and I requested Lenn! She was amazing! Absolutely professional, and very knowledgeable about the muscle connectivity. I requested a deep tissue massage, and she was very good at getting in there and working on all of the knots. I had a very intense shoulder pain and two massive knots on each side of my shoulders, she helped relieve some of the pain, and explained to me how they are formed, and how I can seek professional help to relieve the pain permanently. She was very nice, and offered a glass of water, tea, and dried cherries/almond mix after the massage. I would highly recommend her and this spa to anyone looking for a clean, professional environment with knowledgeable staff.

Yelp
I booked my first visit to Pure Organic for a massage this week and was absolutely thrilled with the service from start to finish. The entrance is a little hard to find (tucked in to the right of the wine shop, with an elevator at the end of the corridor), but the gentleman I spoke with on the phone - as I wandered Sutter Street - was super helpful and directed me to the right place, sans judgment. :) The space itself is gorgeous: so serene and beautifully decorated. They've taken a lot of care to craft a really relaxing environment that is decidedly unsketchy (which honestly surprised me given the location). Before the massage, they have you sample several different scents to choose your favorite for your massage oil. Nice touch! Of course, the highlight of my visit was the massage. I booked a 60-minute deep tissue with Dave to work out some serious sports-induced muscle tension. This was by far the most intense, most effective deep tissue massage I've ever had -- Dave is tremendously good at what he does! I just wish 60 minutes had been longer and will probably book the 90-minute next time. Pure Organic adds lots of nice little touches that make the experience extra special: Orange scented water, a healthy snack after the treatment, hot towels, great music... I will definitely be back and plan to bring my husband for a couples massage (another service they offer). I highly recommend!

Yelp
Love this place. Been here twice now and I think I'll keep going. Both masseuses I worked with were excellent, providing deep pressure to relieve my neck and shoulder tension. I felt comfortable and relaxed throughout my time here, and I left feeling the tension relieved and ready to take on the rest of the day. Glad to have discovered this spot.

Yelp
Pure Organic Spa is a hidden gem in SF, literally. Don't let the elevator entrance throw you. The moment the door opens, its as though you're in an enchanted forrest. The decor is beautiful and it is such a relaxing environment. The lemongrass tea and almonds were a nice wind down touch. I booked two massages for a girls trip based off of these Yelp reviews. Lenn and Angela were fantastic. This is a no brainer massage spot. I absolutley recommend it.

Yelp
1. CONVENIENCE - Scheduling the massage was super easy and they were able to fit us in earlier upon request. 2. FACILITIES - My wife and I were pleasantly surprised by the ambiance and decor. Pure Organic Spa definitely appeared to be a first class spa! 3. And the MASSAGE.... Wow, talk about pure bliss! My wife stated that her pregnancy massage was the BEST pregnancy massage she has ever had. And she has had quite a few from several places in the bay area and she's typically very critical about her massages but for the first time, she had nothing to say except WOW. 4. I feel like it's necessary to add that the owner is extremely quick and responsive with feedback via Yelp and email. Now that's a way to run a business!

Yelp
I was in San Francisco for a holiday party, and I walked into this lovely spa right across from the Sir Francis Drake where I was staying. WOW! The front desk gal was so lovely and nice. And David was the best swedish masseuse in my life. Traveling is always hard, and it's blissful to find a good masseuse who can fix your aches and pains while you take a nap. HIghly recommended!! I will return next year!

Yelp
I ended up leaving this place without having my Thai massage appointment! I was waiting for bus the day before and found out this place (right next to bus stop) offeres Thai massage (very rare in most spa!!). As a SF visitor leaving within next 2 days, i immediately walked up there and got a same day appointment at 6pm. I was told to be there 15 mins before. I was so excited thinking a nice Thai massage at 6 and then romantic dinner at Gary Danko at 8:30 would make my B-day more than perfect. However, when i showed up at the spa at 5:45 pm, i was told the customer before me was late and my appointment would start late maybe at 6pm, My bad I told the receptionist fine i can wait thinking it shouldn't be too long wait. Then after 6 pm, i was told 6:15pm, then 6:15pm, oh, the therapist would need more time to wrap up, but soon or very soon. (the receptionist can't commit a time!) Finally i left the place at 6:30pm and the therapist didn't show up to greet me. Come on, i don't know what is the being late policy there is. However, in most spa i have been to, when i was told 6pm it is 6pm or 6:10pm the most...From 5:45pm to after 6:30m, meaning i had been in the spa waiting for more than 30 mins for my treatment. Why was I being punished for the earlier customer being late? if she is late, she should lose her treatment time. Period. When i told the receptionist to cancel my appointment cos i was running too short between massage and get ready for dinner appointment. She told me they have cancellation fees blah blah but she would waive mine..Seriously? I was surprised she had the guts to say they have `policy'...

Yelp
I made reservations a week ahead of time. They called me an hour before my massage to say they couldn't. They cancelled completely. They couldnt reschedule. ruined my whole vacation. They charge of we cancel, but there is nothing they can do if they do? Bogus

Yelp
NEVER GET WAXED HERE!!! I got a brazilian wax, thinking this was a high end spa, and its on there list of services, they would probably do a decent job. I was SO wrong! It was very clear as soon as I got on the bed she had no idea what to do. The wax was too hot, she cringed every time she pulled the waxing paper leaving wax all over my skin. At one point she got on the bed for leverage. She mad a mess, left patches of hair, and was trimming with her face five inches from my crouch. The whole experience was horrifying. The worst part about it was that it took a HOUR!!!! This is the only time I have written a yelp review because I feel like people should know what goes one here. I spoke with the receptionist and she did give me 40% off but I feel like I this person should not be waxing and should be fired.

Yelp
Worst experience at a spa in my life. First of all the receptionist was whispering so we could barely hear her. It turns out she was sick as a dog and wiping her snot all over her hands. Gross. My girlfriend and I did a couples Swedish massage which was very underwhelming. I could've pulled someone off the street and they would have done just as good of a job. Train your masseuses. Finally to top it off, they overcharged me for my massage, adding on an extra $15. I called back to have them fix the issue, and I was told that they'd, "Look into it." Finally had to call back AGAIN. Finally a manager calls me back and tries to claim I signed the receipt putting down $15 more in tip than I did, and he even emailed me the receipt. Turns out, I didn't sign that receipt. Sketchy. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Update 3/28: After reading your response I just had to respond. As I stated on the phone, the copy of the receipt you sent me does NOT have my signature on it. This means the receiptionist handed the wrong receipt with the wrong card to the wrong person. This is your fault. Thanks

Yelp
First I would like to say the spa is beautiful. The live plants and orchids create a peaceful and serine vibe. The small details of the decor and service really make the experience so much more luxurious. Service is terrific and the staff at Pure Organic are extremely friendly and accommodating. My masseuse Book was proffessional and very sweet. The downside is that I did not get the treatment I requested and left the spa with the same aching muscles. On my chart I indicated that I had tense shoulders, calves and feet and that my main goal for the treatment was to relax. I also specified a Swedish or Deep Tissue Massage. Instead I received a combination Thai Massage. In my opinion, it was mostly Thai massage. I have received many Thai massages over the years, and also many other styles of massage. This is the first time I have been asked to undress fully for a Thai Massage. It was very uncomfortable being naked and having my legs stretched and bent in all directions, especially with a male masseuse. I was not relaxed at all from my experience because I was worried the sheet was going to fall off. In addition to my discomfort, I had mentioned to my masseuse two times to focus on my feet and shoulders. He said okay, however only spent 5 minutes on my tense shoulder and barely worked on my feet at all. Overall I am quite disappointed. I did not want to tell the receptionist because there was another guest waiting, and I did not want to upset my masseuse because he was very nice. I emailed the spa about what happened and they kindly invited me back for a massage with another masseuse. She was okay, but I still did not get a deep tissue massage. Her skills were also closer to a thai massage. It felt like she was following a routine rather than feeling out my body for knots.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were in SF for his birthday weekend and I thought I would get us a couple's massage. I looked on Yelp and this place had really good reviews so I booked us an appointment. (This place is a little bit hard to find. You should look for the spirits and wine store next door.) We got in the elevator and pressed the button for the 3rd floor. The elevator moved up slightly then stopped. We realized we were stuck in the elevator!!! We called the emergency number to get someone to come get us. After about 20 minutes of no help, we tried opening the door and got out quickly. We tried going up the stairs through the door by the elevator but it seems like no one has been there in years (dusty, dark, and creepy) We called to cancel our appointment because we were stressed from the experience. The receptionist asked if we wanted to wait for the elevator to get fixed but we had no idea how long it would take... she told us she would cancel our appointment and give us a full refund plus email a discount for us if we decide to go back. Never got the discount in my email.. We went next door to get a bottle of champagne to help us relax instead. I'm sad we didn't get to try this place because of all the great reviews. Maybe we will some day in the future when they fix their stairs and elevators.

Yelp
I would like to start out by saying that I am a seasoned massage therapist, so my opinions may be colored by different experience than the average massage-goer. I booked a Swedish massage, but the business also offers other spa treatments. The previous reviews were definitely right about the decor - beautiful! Very stylish. Lighting was a little dark for my taste. I asked to use the restroom, and it was very clean, with individually rolled-up, cloth hand towels instead of paper. I was offered my choice of water or hot tea. The receptionist was friendly and welcoming, although a little formal, as if her mind were on other things and she was mostly going through the motions. My therapist was Jody - a quiet young man that I had a good conversation with, talking shop about massage. Clients are allowed to pic from a variety of scents to add to their massage oil (I chose fragrance-free), and there was a small bowl of almonds and dried cranberries in the massage room. Although, it was so dark in the room that I didn't see the bowl of goodies until after the session, when I pulled back the curtain on the window to have a little light to find my belongings. The massage was good. I asked for a basic Swedish massage, and that's exactly what I got. Jody was attentive and checked in with me several times during the massage. Hot towels were used to wipe down my back and my feet, which felt great. I wanted to give Pure Organic five stars, but I settled on four because - while they have all the niceties like hot tea, hot towels, hot decor - they're missing a certain warmth in the place. It felt too much like a business and not enough like an oasis of relaxation and pampering. They're a new business, so maybe that will come with time.
