Having stayed at Puro hotels in Gdańsk, Warsaw, Wrocław, and Warsaw, this one was a little disappointing by comparison. It’s noticeably smaller than the others, and while I understand the design choice, the décor felt dated and wasn’t really to my taste. It did grow on me after a few days, but stylistically it’s my least favourite Puro property so far.
We stayed in a top-floor suite, and again, compared to the suite we had in Gdańsk just a few days earlier, it was underwhelming. The room was very small with limited cupboard and hanging space. The bathroom was probably too large and took up a significant amount of the living area. The motion-activated bathroom lights were also frustrating, as they could turn off while you were in the shower, leaving you in the dark.
Other drawbacks included the view, which isn’t great and isn’t accurately represented in the photos on Booking.com. The TV also frequently struggled to stream or cast from my phone via YouTube, which became a bit frustrating. That said, the room was comfortable enough overall despite these issues.
The staff, however, were excellent. We requested a few items for the room, such as an iron and ironing board and extra towels, and they arrived very quickly. The bar and restaurant staff were friendly and attentive, keeping our drinks topped up and even making cocktails that weren’t on the menu. Housekeeping was also efficient and thorough.
The lifts are very dated. My girlfriend has a slight fear of lifts, but the glass lifts in Gdańsk and the large, smooth lifts in Warsaw were no issue for her. The lifts here feel old and somewhat jerky, so anyone with lift anxiety should be aware.
The location is quite good, directly opposite the main railway station and only a five-minute walk to the Old Town (Barbican/Floriańska). We had breakfast one morning and found the buffet to be well stocked with a good variety of options, alongside à la carte choices.
Overall, it wasn’t a bad stay, but having been spoiled by our experiences in Gdańsk and Warsaw, this hotel unfortunately fell below our expectations.
